We spend 3 nights at the Grand Hotel and we can say only positive things about this place. The setting his superb, the rooms spacious and spotless, and the service is in line with a five stars hotel. We had dinner the first night and we were surprised by the excellent cuisine. To be honest, after reading a few negative reviews on tripadvisor, we were a bit uneasy to eat there but we were too tired to find another place. We had an excellent faux filet rossini and an entree with local seafood that was inventive an good tasting. Breakfast are also quite good with excellent breads. Only minor negative point, some of the fruits looked like canned ones. Overall, price quality ratio is quite good

Another 5 star hotel that tried its hardest to live up to expectation. I ordered room service, and the food arrived on a trolley without any covering! They did sort it. The menu in the restaurant is very limited, and when I ask if there was another menu they said no, but what about the room service menu..... There is free parking which is a bonus for a five star hotel, although in the summer it might be a bit of a scramble. If you like texas holdem poker the casino about 20 yards from the hotel has a cash game every night. Excellent views across the beach. Bathroom designs not good. Finding someone who speaks English can be a problem, but perseverance pays off! Provided breakfast in the room at no extra cost along with tea cups and cold milk. All in all an excellent effort at 5 stay luxury.

As part of Shearing trip to Normandy, stayed at this hotel It is a lovely hotel although staff need to get their act together. When we arrived we waited for everyone else to get their room key and then when I went to collect our key, they had given it to another guest because they had the same name, assuming we were one party. When we did get into the room it was excellent, overlooking the gardens.

In the morning (as we are not morning people), we sat on a table for two facing the sea, the staff severed tea/coffee and told us how the breakfast worked, nice relaxing breakfast we enjoyed. In the evening, we went down to dinner and we were ushered into a room with about 5 tables this is where the Shearings party were sitting. We took one look at the no choice menu and left the hotel to go elsewhere for something to eat. We were advised by the other passengers on the coach it was a wise move as the food was under cooked.

The next morning we went down for breakfast so we thought" we will sit in the same seat as the day before", but oh no, we were with Shearing we had to sit with them in the room with no windows or views. We advise the waiter/server that we wanted to sit in the window seat again like yesterday, and we proceeded to that table and sat down. The next thing the waiter/server was going complaining to the receptionist that we refused to sit with the main Shearings party, nothing else was said, although they refused to provide tea/coffee at the table (we did not deserve to be served as we were with Shearings and should have been sitting with them), would not have minded but the breakfast was self serve anyway, from the exact same place for everyone, there was no separation so why all the fuss. Every other waiter/server that came on duty was advise not to serve us with tea/coffee and we proceeded the morning getting looks from the staff.

That evening we did not even attempt to go for dinner, as we found a nice little Chinese restaurant and we went their. Again the next day the rest of the party advise we did not miss anything at dinner as it was cold and under cooked like the previous evening.

Next morning for breakfast was the same process as the morning before, you cannot sit there etc.

So yes this is a grand hotel, but the staff do not like when you are with a coach party and you also want to be independent of them when you are eating, especially in the morning.

This Hotel has it all: 1) gorgeous 19th century building, 2) oceanfront location and 3) the great Town of Cabourg - the Triple Crown And if you are a Proust freak, as I/we are, it is paradise. Shopping in Cabourg is great. There is a 5-mile boardwalk in front of the hotel. The hotel's beach "tents" are wonderful.

Room Tip: Facing the ocean is sublime.

Beautiful old style, very big rooms, full of character.
Breakfast only average for a 5-star hotel (or too much spoiled from other hotels)?
Nice walk up and down the seaside, very relaxing. And at night the main road full of restaurants just a few minutes from the hotel.
On weekends tight parking situation in front of the hotel (but all free :) )

Room Tip: Also nice to have a room overlooking the garden & city (instead of the more expensive seaview ro...
