“Unforgettable”

Staying on the Mont is completely worth it. We arrived around 4 pm as the hordes of tourists were leaving, and got up early to see the Abbey before most people arrived. In the evening we felt as though we had the whole island to ourselves and it was magical. It was like going back in time, or going to Hogwarts. I don’t think I would have appreciated it as much crushed by tourists during the day. As has been mentioned, take ONLY what you need for the night/your stay. It’s a hike from the parking lots to the shuttles, then another hike up the Mont to the hotel reception, then ANOTHER hike to your room, if you are staying in the Logis rooms (which I recommend). With light luggage, it’s a fun adventure. I can imagine with suitcases it would have been a nightmare. We booked a Logis room, and lucked out with a bay view terrace. The view was unreal. The actual room itself was small, but cozy and clean, with everything needed plus speedy free wifi. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. We checked out early in the morning, but the hotel helpfully holds your luggage if you want to explore the Mont after you check out, which we did. Our one night stay wasn’t cheap but it was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience that was worth every penny.

What an amazing little hotel in the medieval village of Mont St. Michel! First bit of invaluable information regards parking if you drove your own car. You need to park in Lot 3 near the visitor center, and be sure to ask for the CODE when you book your reservation. Without the code, you can't open the gate! I had to call my daughter in the US, have her call the property, get the code and call me back. Having said that, it was a pain but it just added to the fun we had. Be prepared to walk to catch the tram, and then walk, walk, walk to the village itself. The hotel is within the gates and on the right. Keep an eye peeled. Once we registered, we walked, walked, walked to the actually room, which is a hike from the main building. The room was quaint and exactly what we expected. The village was bustling during the day, but once the visitors left, it became a very magical place. Our view was amazing....our booking included dinner. The food was good and the atmosphere was better. There were only a few patrons in the restaurant, so we had amazing service. The house wine was very good. I am soooo glad we spent the night on the island instead of opting for the less expensive hotel. It was worth the experience and the price. Remember, you can always stay at a hotel, but how often do you get to stay in a medical village in a room that's hundreds of years old. So what if it's not a 5 star accommodations, it's a 10 star experience!

At the time of booking we were not informed of the construction work going on on the causeway. On arrival we explained that we were concerned about getting back to the mainland early in the morning and concerned about the lack of lighting. No concern was shown by staff. We were shown to our room and didn't get any offer of help to drag our two heavy cases up a narrow staircase to the very top floor. When we got to our "family room" it was tiny and the wooden ladder staircase to the children's beds was vertical, very tall and dangerous.. One mis-placed foot and a child would have fallen. The lighting in the children's area also didn't work. We explained our concerns and that we felt we couldn't take the risk but the lady on reception did not give any reassurance. We were told that we would need to pay in full even though we were leaving. After a discussion we negotiated 70 euros off the bill but still ended up paying 200 euros and left with the distress of finding another hotel on the mainland. Very unhelpful, over-priced and not child friendly.... All they seemed interested in was being paid and they showed no concern about our worries.

Stayed one night, get the Bay view rooms if you have time to spend, the terrace is great and the view as good as expected. Those looking for true 4 or 5 star should stay in the village, but as far as being on THE Mont itself, we had no complaints... and a good plus: Internet access is fast, reliable and included in the price. For 225 Euro, we felt the value was decent, and treat the place more like a 'fun' experience rather than a luxury indulgence. This update I hope provides folks with a good update from October 2013. Having stayed in many spots in France and Europe, Auberge St Pierre does its job well amongst the tourist trap that is Mont Saint Michel. And all the reviewers warning to get up early to avoid the tourists are absolutely correct! By 10am, the medieval fortress is totally besieged by tourists ... and we mean packed! Do expect to climb many steps and stairs, then again, if you've made it to the entrance, you'll do just fine.

Service is professional, room was clean. There is a heating unit in the room that also is supposed to try to cool the room during the summer. There is an lcd television, hot water kettle and your bed...

The reception to this hotel and most Mont Saint Michel hotels are near the main entrance, we arrived in the pouring rain and darkness but wasn't too much trouble locating the place amidst the downpour

Room Tip: Bay View room with Terrace is worth it if you've already travelled this far!

I was on an organized tour and stayed at this hotel for one night. We were told to take one night's worth of supplies in an overnight bag. It was convenient to leave the rest of the luggage on the tour bus. If you are traveling by train you may be able to rent a locker at the station. If by car, leave everything in the car except what you will need. There is a bus that takes travelers from the parking lot to the Mount. After that lots of walking and most of it on cobblestones and straight up. There is a narrow less then one lane street that goes up, up, up. The rooms are scattered up the mountain. Our room was one room in a group of four that were as far up as they go. Outside our room was a shortcut to the Abbe, straight up the stairs. We were way up at the top. The rooms in this hotel are not all in one place. The people who had rooms on the lower level complained of street noise. Up at the top there is no noise. We were right above the cemetery.

We did not know in advance of the logistics. You park on the mainland, walk to the shuttle depot, disembark a quarter mile from the entrance to the community, wade through very muddy silt (it has filled in the water between the Mont and the mainland), dodge a huge reclamation construction site, and then begin your climb to the hotel. Having said all that, it is worth the effort. Just pack very lightly. We stayed in the bay view logis and loved Room 425. It had 2 bedrooms and a sitting area. Brand new tiled bathroom. Stairs, stairs, stairs - be prepared. Complete breakfast buffet.

Due to plane delays we arrived at midnight and caught the last bus from the parking lots to St. Michel. They dropped us off (thankfully we knew not to bring much luggage) in the dark on a construction road several hundred meters from the entrance to St Michel. After a long walk we started up the narrow streets and found the restaurant next to the hotel still had a dinner guest and asked how to check in. The called the night clerk and he lead us up several alleys, steps, and entrances to our "cottage" rooms. Rooms are very small, no a/c or heat (open or close the windows). For lodging on such a interesting location on St. Michel island this was worth the effort to get there. I would think our room was as nice or nicer than most or even island residents.
I'd do it again just for the experience.

Room Tip: Only 2 rooms in the cottage and either was as nice as the other.
