When we arrived we were greeted by Natalie who showed us our room, in the manoir itself and up a stone spiral staircase. It was, obviously, old but delightful and yes, as commented elsewhere, the bathroom pod is a bit strange, but so what, it serves its purpose! We then went back down and sat on the terrace with as much fresh coffee as we wanted and spent half an hour or so chatting to other guests and soaking in the atmosphere. Pierre then appeared, introduced himself and apologised as he was in an old tee shirt and paint stained trousers. He was working on the manoir. That sums it up really. We were part of the family, take them as you find them and enjoy it all. Pierre and Natalie speak reasonably good English and are very accomodating and amusing.
The manoir is set if a few acres of park and is quite beautiful in an unkempt way. It's not carefully manicured but natural and all the better for that.
Food. Great. All cooked by Natalie. We had an evening meal of Guinea Fowl as the main course and Ile Flotante as the pudding. Wonderful. There is no wine list so just let Pierre provide something. We had a bottle (or two) of Gigondas, followed by unlimited coffee and Calvados. Again this was all very informal. Pierre left the thermos of coffee and bottle of Calvados on the table and said to just help ourselves.
For breakfast we had home baked croissants, home made jams and home made yoghurt.
This isn't a slick, stuffy hotel but a French family run home. Treat your stay that way. Reading some of the reviews it seems some people require modern slick plastic hotels, all the same. Perhaps they're ok for plastic people. The Manoir is for real, run by a family restoring the building and welcoming guests as friends. Relax, chill out and enjoy it.
We're going back soon, for a longer stay.

Room Tip: Laval is a pleasant town, enjoyable walks along the river. Found a great chocolatier in the old town...

This is a unique place with lovely friendly people. We stayed in a large family room which was excellent and very clean. Food and wine was very good and the whole experience was so relaxing. Natahlia and pierre were the perfect hosts very helpfull and always making sure we were enjoying ourselves. It was a shame to leave such a lovely place and family.

This is just like staying with some nice members of your own family or friends. Pierre and Natalie offered unrivaled hospitality and genuine kindness. It was a lovely warm place to stay and we were provided with everything that we needed.

The Manor is truly a step back in time, our room was on the second floor up a stone staircase. a lovely views from the window of the surrounding moat and garden parkland. Still undergoing some repair and renovation by the new freindly owners. The room was a little odd in decor paint was a bit unproffesional but it all added to the ambiance of the place which is trully old and not just a modern building that looks old. Bathroom was clean but a bit odd up a step, like a pod thing inserted in the corner of the room. good wifi access. It was very quiet when we visited and looks like it is like that often no weddings Ect. We opted fort he evening meal which was fabulous 3 courses and cooked by the owners a possitve familly feel, breakfast was a bit poor but adequate a bit french i suppose but no cheese, home made jams, lovely home made croissants (2 each). Laval itself was a dissapointment, town a bit sprawling no moochy shops and i couldnt find a decent restaurant. It didn't bother us as we just stayed one night passing through you wouldn't want any longer unlike other quaint towns we passed through which could of occupied us easily for a few days.
The manoir itself is located on the outskirts of town next to a residential/industrial area we had to ask in the tourist office to find it.

Room Tip: No fancy frills in the manor but the lodges looked lovely try one.

This is a very charming hotel. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the family room for 5 people. There was plenty of room for all of us. It was so charming that we would highly recommend this unique place!!

The main bed was hard which was fine for my husband but I ended up kicking one of the kids out of their bed because it was softer. But it was all fine. The breakfast was a little small. Wish they had a few more items like yogurt and cheese.

Make sure to walk around and enjoy the scenery. It is so quite in a hidden little wooden area in the middle of the city. We stopped here after the LeMans Classic and on our way to Mont St. Michelle. It was the perfect place for our teenagers to feel like they were "back in time" yet with modern comfort.

Room Tip: The family suite for 5 was on the top floor up a stone spiral staircare. It was too charming!!! Wi...

This is a charming old 15th Century manor house. We stayed a night in one of the large rooms on the first floor. The furniture and fittings are all dated but we were comfortable and it all adds to the feeling that you have stepped back in time. Your host Nathalie is more than friendly and speaks reasonable English. Apart from that she is a great cook so be sure to have dinner there. We would go to Manoir Rouesse again.
