“What a let down! :-(”
Reviewed 21 August 2013 via mobile

Ok here I give my honest opinion on this site as a 32 year old woman travelling with hubby of 46 and kids aged 6, 9, 9, 14 and 14 in a touring caravan and tent from 27th July until 11th August 2013.

Upon arrival we booked in and were shown to our pitch which has no restriction on which way we wanted our unit set up which was good but tiny! We managed a standard sized caravan with awning and minibus and no room left.
We had a grand comfort pitch was was great with constant water and drainage saving us the hassle of constant trips to and from.

As there were 7 of us we had to book two pitches and take a small tent ever though we have a 5 birth caravan with a double sleeping annex on the awning only to find there are no checks or wrist bands to enter the park and the teens spent most nights in the van and not the tent so in hindsight could've saved 500€!!
The park is no where near how big they make out to be on websites so your well packed in with less than a metre between your van and next doors!

Unfortunately the grand comfort pitches back on the the best and newest shower, toilet and laundry block (only 4 large showers so always queues) which is very convenient but teens tend to like this place to hang out till all hours and people feel the need to slam shower doors through till the early hours.

The chemical disposal point is also in the end cubicle of the ladies which had its own door but just a cubicle wall separating it so avoid toilets when people are emptying!!
French men are also quite often in the ladies weeing or cleaning teeth which having young girls in n out alone was very unsettling and I often lingered to make sure the girls left ok even though I had no idea who they were.

There is advertised a kids club which runs from 10am which would've been great for our youngsters but upon arrival at 10am we were informed that we were too late to register and they were full! Then we were told it only runs for two hours and is basic colouring in or a game of boules, pretty appalling if you ask me!

The pool bar area has wifi and boules but is no where near the reception which is where you need to book and pay!
The pool itself was a bit cold but still fine for a splash around in high temperatures and the kids loved it, there is a small slide but don't be fooled it packs a punch on its twist which I hated but again kids loved.

If you intend in sunbathing by the pool you need to queue before 10am opening to get your towels down as its not that large and gets very busy. There is also a small indoor heated pool which again seemed to be a teen hang out and was no where near safe for my little one to be in with this lot!

The play area is huge and very very good with a large sandpit and ideal for the kids to go off of an evening when it's cooling down.

Prod imminently English guests with a few French which is good if you like to mingle but most seem to keep themselves to themselves.

The shop had quite a bit of stuff that you would need but the prices were over double than anywhere else for bog basic essentials so we avoided this other than a fresh baguette daily.

There are a few large U supermarkets around which is handy and well priced.
Bbq's are permitted on pitch as long as they are gas and can be hired if you don't have one which was good as the restaurant again was very expensive so we never tried the food there except chips on a late night back starving and they were good sized and very yummy!

The site is meant to have security from 10:30pm with restrictions on the amount of noise but it is by far the most noisy park we have ever stayed at throughout france and uk and the security were no where to be found!

The local area itself is just ok with gift shops bike hire and a few places to eat. the local beach is by far the best and once discovered we never returned back to the pool as there was good food and drink at good prices, rocks dividing areas which kids crabbed in and excellent waves for bodyboarding and lovely clean sand all overseen by lifeguards which were on the ball and were constantly up and down in a boat or on a quad which made me more happy to let my children swim alone.

we travelled into saint jean de monts itself which is fantastic!

There is a lovely beach with lots of activities and lots of good places, shops, pharmacies, rosalee bike hire shops and plenty of fair type rides up lots of side streets which were fab and a rotisserie chicken shop which was excellent and very well priced.
Best of all was King Glacé which is by far the largest and best ice cream place we have ever seen with sooo many flavours to choose from on waffle cones made whilst you wait.

We also drove along the cost towards St Gilles which is a stunning little area to visit and recommended but avoid the Aquarium in Normoutier if you want a good day out that's longer than half and hour for 80€!

The reception staff are very friendly and helpful but the rest of the staff seem skeleton staff and when they do appear they don't talk or seem very nice especially the bar tender!

On our second week two units of travellers arrived and basically did what they wanted when they wanted all day and all night and got away with it, the kids were a nightmare frequently banging on tents and all of them just walked through pitches with no respect for nothing and this is something no site should allow!

The toilets were cleaned regularly and were ok seeing as the site was pretty busy but the shower cubicals always seemed a bit grim with temperature controls that don't work and frequently went so hot you had no choice but to go.

Overall we had a lovely holiday every day spent off the park and bad nights with constant noise and no we will never return to this site again!

hello, if I make the average of your comments, it's more positiv. For the attitude of the people we can't tell how each one has to be....For my staff, you might don't see them but there are over 25 persons working at la yole, everybody do his best to serve you and give you the best service. And for the garden team or cleaning team, they try to do it without disturbing the people, that's why you might not see them. For the night security, we've got 2 persons, 1 located at the entrance and at the carpark, and the other one turn on the site. Plus, in case of emergency or need, 1 is always reachable at the entrance !
bye, Thierry

Just returned from a lovely holiday at La Yole. Toilet block was always clean and plenty of cubicles available. Occasionally had to queue for the family showers which is understandable at the end of the day. Pools were kept clean, although the outdoor one was occasionally quite cold. Alot of other campsites around the area, so the road can be quite busy. Quite noisy at night time, so getting our little ones to sleep was a task sometimes and also because the pitches are quite close at the top (recommend asking for a pitch nearer the bottom as another reviewer mentions). Frequently had noise past 10pm from young groups outside or returning from nearby club/ other, which was a shame (which we did mention and reception were understanding and helpful, although I guess quite impossible to control fully every night). Childrens play area is very good and our boys had a wonderful time throughout the stay at La Yole. St Jean De Mont beach we found the best as its sand, other smaller beaches nearby tend to be a little sharp/ shingly. Recommend visiting Noirmoutier and St Jean De Mont itself (lovely ice creams!). Overall a very nice holiday but shame about the noise at night.

We've just got back from a 3 week tour of France & stayed here for 6 nights. The reception staff were amazing, helpful & friendly (especially as they helped us out as we had arrived a night early!!). We were in a touring caravan. The pitches at the bottom of the site were best-ours was fully serviced, large (caravan plus awning plus pod, gazebo & car easily fitted), by the amenity block which was clean & functional (& had toilet seats which was a major bonus having been down to the south!!) & had both sun & shade from the partition hedges/trees. The water & waste required long pipes to reach from the points on the pitch.
The pool was lovely if a little chilly with plenty of comfortable sun beds which seemed to flow freely being available through the day-no need to get up early to get one. There was a slide that my son enjoyed & a warmer indoor pool & jacuzzi.
We found the bar expensive & evening entertainment lame but happily played cards at our pitch anyway. We didn't bother paying for wifi as others said access was limited & could only be accessed in the bar on one device per payment. The games room with pool & table football tables was a bonus.
My son joined in with the kids club & really enjoyed it. The playground facilities were great.
The site itself felt very safe & security at the gate was good.
The on site shop was very expensive so we didn't use it but there are local supermarkets.
My main down point to this site (& this is uncontrollable by the site) was that it was so British!! The seafront locally is like Blackpool & way too touristy for me with arcades & pedal cars etc & the prices were high. St jean de monts village is beautiful.
So in summary, if you have kids & want a predominantly British campsite with good size pitches & decent amenities then this is a fantastic site to go to. You'll have a fab & relaxing time in lovely surroundings.

Room Tip: Choose a pitch at bottom of site as they are bigger & more spaced out

We stayed here for three nights this August with our two boys. Looked good on first arriving and the staff in reception were wonderful but when we visited the bar/restaurant we were met with some very rude staff, so rude, we never returned. The first night was a sleepless one, being awoken by drunken youngsters. When we got up in the morning, we found vomit all along the road next to us, we asked nicely if it could be cleaned up but this never happened and it was there for our whole stay after I was unsuccessful in cleaning it up myself. The prices in the shop were ridiculously pricey and you couldn't wash up unless you bought a plug from their shop. Showers, not great. The pitches are nice but its very noisy, good for the kids but not for us.

Room Tip: Only go here if you are a night owl and don't mind a bit of noise.

hello, I'm surprised with your comment .... first of all I've never been informed of this "vomit story", otherwise my staff would be sent straight away to do it, but maybe it was a misunderstood. Plus , we are a family camp and avoid a maximum to have youngsters or to much teenagers....Concerning the restaurant staff and prices at the shop, it's a question of point of view ; because , if you read the previous comment they all said the opposit. To finish, regardings the plugs, unbelievebly, we have so many taken, we have to decide to stop replcing them. I'm sorry your stay was not to your expectation, and wish a good end of summer.

Just back from a wonderful time at La Yole. Our Garmin SatNav found the campsite with no problems at all.

The site itself is a good size ideal for families with younger children, with a large play area ( which closes around 10pm ). The pool(s) are more than adequate, with an indoor pool, a toddler pool, a waterslide & a larger pool with loungers and chairs all around. As other reviewers state, Men / Boys must wear speedo style swimmers for the pool - but we read reviews of many other campsites in Vendee & pretty much all are the same.

We took our own Tent - Montana with awning & had more than enough space on the generously sized pitch.

The Bar is ok - with evening entertainment which is the sites only failing, however it does quiten down at a reasonable time of night.

Toilets & showers were very clean for a campsite & the showers were never an issue for us.

The staff were all very friendly, spoke excellent English (despite our poor attempts at French) & were extremely helpful advising on Days out / Local beaches / supermarkets etc

In the area there are many wonderful beaches, just go explore - you never seem to be far away from a beautiful beach which all have facilities. Driving around either North or South Vendee you find many lovely small towns which are well worth exploring.

There are many attractions in the area, just ask at reception & they'll let you know which are the best & good value for money.

One tip - avoid the supermarkets on a Monday, they're chaotic !!!

Thank you La Yole - we will definitly be back !!!

We stayed at La Yole with keycamp for 4 nights from 3 August 2013
I've never been any where like this before and was a little daunted when we first arrived as there was a lot of hustle and bustle. We have 2 children and where staying in a static caravan and it really was perfect for our family - lots of facilities and space outside for the children to play - close to a lovely beach that can get very busy but you can always find a quiet spot if you prefer - if you walk far enough. There was a shop and bike hire available on sight and lots of activities for the whole family in the local area. there are also some lovely towns further afield St Giles- de-Croix has a great market to explore and the children loved all the boats. We didn't use the pools and we're not into evening entertainment so couldn't comment on those aspects of it. There was a resteraunt and take away which wasn't unreasonably priced- we tried the takeaway and the pizzas where delicious. We really grew to like this place and hope to return in the future :)
