“A campsite you'll want to return to year after year!”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

We have just returned from our annual summer holiday at La Yole.

The fact that people return year after year- this is the second consecutive year we stayed at this 4star campsite, really says everything….. we met a number of people that have chosen La Yole on many, consecutive years, one family for the last 9 years in a row!

Thierry Hirschmann, Director General of the site, together with all his staff, provide a personal but professional service, they are extremely obliging and always have a welcoming smile.
We would particularly make mention of Natacha, Alice, Cyril & Nicholas.

The facilities on the site, including the pool, are very good and the food at the Bar/Restaurant is excellent. The restaurant staff speak good English- slightly galling sometimes when we are trying to practice our French-please note, this is not to be taken as a negative comment.
The entertainment has a French slant, but you are in France!

There are a number of washrooms on site providing shower and toilet facilities- the smaller facility on the newer, sunnier part of the site- which is our preferred area, can be a little busy at times and perhaps could benefit from more than one clean per day during these periods.

The site continues to go through development under the present owners/management team with evident changes from 2012 seeing a number of mobile homes/Safari Tents operated by holiday companies, Eurocamp for example, being re-sited where previously touring caravans pitches were available- personally we sincerely hope that the “mobile homes “do not take over, so to speak, in this area of the site!

We very much look forward to spending another enjoyable summer holiday at La Yole in 2014.

Room Tip: We took our own touring caravan and the large pitches in the newer part of the site are fully servi...

We spent 10 days on this site at the end of August with our 11 and 9 year old children. On site there was plenty to do for everyone including table tennis, swimming pool, childrens club, tennis, boules, massive grassy playground & sandpit, etc. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and with excellent facilities on site including a shop selling tasty fresh bread.

It is located in a lovely area, St Jean De Monts with its beach front, old town and lovely restaurants only 5 mins away and several other fantastic beaches within 20 mins of the site, with wide sandy beaches and free parking.

All in all a very friendly, safe and relaxed campsite in a wonderful area and I think we may return.

hello, I will just complete your excellent review with what we also have : gym center, wifi zone, failial showers in 3 of the 4 sanitary blocks, and a campsite that looks like a campsite and not like a mobil-home village.
have a nice day.

We stayed for 8 nights in early August in our tent and the site was at full capacity. Weather was perfect - sunny almost every day, temperatures pleasant without the fierce heat of southern France.

On the plus side, it was a well-kept and well-equipped site. Most of the site contains static homes for British companies like KeyCamp or Canvas Holidays so the demand on the toilet blocks was not excessive. The playground was great; lots of equipment, space and a good-sized sandpit. The outdoor pool was just too cold for me (and my son) but there was a indoor section which was heated. They could also do with more sunloungers.

On negative side, the site was very noisy late at night. We were next to the playground which was great during the day and evening but after 10pm, there were often groups of teenagers shouting, playing music and swearing until 11.30pm. We did complain to the staff and things did get a bit better, but you don't really need this hassle when you're on holiday. There was always loud music at the bar, often going on until midnight. If you were in a caravan, it probably wouldn't be such a problem, but in a tent you're quite sensitive to noise.

It was our first trip to Vendee as a family. The beaches were great. It's quite easy to escape the crowds if you drive 10 mins down the coast, there's always free parking (unlike the UK!). The area is very resorty and you will be surrounded by British and French tourists in August. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, there's always plenty to do in terms of water parks and stuff, it's just not the place to go if you want to see France.

La Yole isn't a bad site but we wouldn't stay here again simply because of the late night noise - campsites are generally not quiet places but this was the noisiest I've ever stayed at. The Vendee is chock full of campsites so we'd choose one that fits our particular needs better.

Room Tip: Don't stay here in peak season unless you'll a night owl.

There are many positives about La Yole. It is a small site with extremely friendly and helpful staff. The pitches are closer in proximity than we were used to in the UK and when we arrived late to find our pitch on the corner of a roundabout only just the right size for the tent we were disappointed. However the following morning the Manager gave us a choice of 4 pitches that were available over the forthcoming 2/3 days and we were able to move to a quieter more private pitch.

There is a good swimming pool which is very clean due to some good management. Men have to wear swimming trunks, shorts are not permitted. Next to the pool is a bar and restaurant where we at on a few occasions and the food was good. Again the staff were friendly and always made us feel welcome. Some evening entertainment for both children and adults.

The toilets and showers were cleaned on a regular basis.

We were surprised by the area in that parts of it are very commercialised. La Yole is in a quieter location but unfortunately the noise from the louder sites travels at night if the wind is in the wrong direction, so many evenings you could hear music and loud entertainment which was a shame. We were at the height of the season so maybe we should have expected this to happen.

Our children aged 8 and 6 could explore the site on their bikes and really enjoyed the play area which was suitable for children of all ages. They made friends and became more independent as a result of going to La Yole.

Their are some lovely beaches to explore although it was worth going out of the commercialised area to find a beach with very few people on it. There are many local villages with places to eat and the highlight of the trip was Poy du Fu an amazing theme park with no rides, no plastic but just theatre, history, atmosphere and animals. Don't miss out on the adventure, it was truly spectacular.

Room Tip: Make sure you find out the size and location of your pitch before you book. Deluxe pitches are more...

Stayed with my husband in a Campervan July/Aug 2013. Were given a great sized pitch which we found to be very spacious with good privacy from surrounding hedges. The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially Julie on reception, always willing to help! The shop while expensive, was well stocked with the essentials , but the U Express was a 5 minute cycle away and this is where we stocked up on supplies. There was a fabulous beach (Les Mouettes) a short cycle from the campsite which is where we preferred to spend our time rather than at the busy pool area, where the sunbeds where taken very early in the day. The evening entertainment was a bit mediocre, but drink prices were surprisingly reasonable. The wifi, on the other hand, while not expensive, was a total let down because of technical problems and the demand on it. We visited The New Jack pub near U Express, where free wifi was available and reliable. :) We never had a problem with noise at night on the campsite (contrary to some reviews!), after midnite the bar was closed and any teenagers chatted and dispersed pretty soon after that. The showers were fine with plenty of hot water, but the toilet cubicles needed cleaning more than once a day! We often saw a security guard patrolling at night and were aware of the guard at the gate which was re-assuring. Overall, a great little site, friendly and family orientated, thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay! :)

Reviewed 21 August 2013 via mobile

Ok here I give my honest opinion on this site as a 32 year old woman travelling with hubby of 46 and kids aged 6, 9, 9, 14 and 14 in a touring caravan and tent from 27th July until 11th August 2013.

Upon arrival we booked in and were shown to our pitch which has no restriction on which way we wanted our unit set up which was good but tiny! We managed a standard sized caravan with awning and minibus and no room left.
We had a grand comfort pitch was was great with constant water and drainage saving us the hassle of constant trips to and from.

As there were 7 of us we had to book two pitches and take a small tent ever though we have a 5 birth caravan with a double sleeping annex on the awning only to find there are no checks or wrist bands to enter the park and the teens spent most nights in the van and not the tent so in hindsight could've saved 500€!!
The park is no where near how big they make out to be on websites so your well packed in with less than a metre between your van and next doors!

Unfortunately the grand comfort pitches back on the the best and newest shower, toilet and laundry block (only 4 large showers so always queues) which is very convenient but teens tend to like this place to hang out till all hours and people feel the need to slam shower doors through till the early hours.

The chemical disposal point is also in the end cubicle of the ladies which had its own door but just a cubicle wall separating it so avoid toilets when people are emptying!!
French men are also quite often in the ladies weeing or cleaning teeth which having young girls in n out alone was very unsettling and I often lingered to make sure the girls left ok even though I had no idea who they were.

There is advertised a kids club which runs from 10am which would've been great for our youngsters but upon arrival at 10am we were informed that we were too late to register and they were full! Then we were told it only runs for two hours and is basic colouring in or a game of boules, pretty appalling if you ask me!

The pool bar area has wifi and boules but is no where near the reception which is where you need to book and pay!
The pool itself was a bit cold but still fine for a splash around in high temperatures and the kids loved it, there is a small slide but don't be fooled it packs a punch on its twist which I hated but again kids loved.

If you intend in sunbathing by the pool you need to queue before 10am opening to get your towels down as its not that large and gets very busy. There is also a small indoor heated pool which again seemed to be a teen hang out and was no where near safe for my little one to be in with this lot!

The play area is huge and very very good with a large sandpit and ideal for the kids to go off of an evening when it's cooling down.

Prod imminently English guests with a few French which is good if you like to mingle but most seem to keep themselves to themselves.

The shop had quite a bit of stuff that you would need but the prices were over double than anywhere else for bog basic essentials so we avoided this other than a fresh baguette daily.

There are a few large U supermarkets around which is handy and well priced.
Bbq's are permitted on pitch as long as they are gas and can be hired if you don't have one which was good as the restaurant again was very expensive so we never tried the food there except chips on a late night back starving and they were good sized and very yummy!

The site is meant to have security from 10:30pm with restrictions on the amount of noise but it is by far the most noisy park we have ever stayed at throughout france and uk and the security were no where to be found!

The local area itself is just ok with gift shops bike hire and a few places to eat. the local beach is by far the best and once discovered we never returned back to the pool as there was good food and drink at good prices, rocks dividing areas which kids crabbed in and excellent waves for bodyboarding and lovely clean sand all overseen by lifeguards which were on the ball and were constantly up and down in a boat or on a quad which made me more happy to let my children swim alone.

we travelled into saint jean de monts itself which is fantastic!

There is a lovely beach with lots of activities and lots of good places, shops, pharmacies, rosalee bike hire shops and plenty of fair type rides up lots of side streets which were fab and a rotisserie chicken shop which was excellent and very well priced.
Best of all was King Glacé which is by far the largest and best ice cream place we have ever seen with sooo many flavours to choose from on waffle cones made whilst you wait.

We also drove along the cost towards St Gilles which is a stunning little area to visit and recommended but avoid the Aquarium in Normoutier if you want a good day out that's longer than half and hour for 80€!

The reception staff are very friendly and helpful but the rest of the staff seem skeleton staff and when they do appear they don't talk or seem very nice especially the bar tender!

On our second week two units of travellers arrived and basically did what they wanted when they wanted all day and all night and got away with it, the kids were a nightmare frequently banging on tents and all of them just walked through pitches with no respect for nothing and this is something no site should allow!

The toilets were cleaned regularly and were ok seeing as the site was pretty busy but the shower cubicals always seemed a bit grim with temperature controls that don't work and frequently went so hot you had no choice but to go.

Overall we had a lovely holiday every day spent off the park and bad nights with constant noise and no we will never return to this site again!

hello, if I make the average of your comments, it's more positiv. For the attitude of the people we can't tell how each one has to be....For my staff, you might don't see them but there are over 25 persons working at la yole, everybody do his best to serve you and give you the best service. And for the garden team or cleaning team, they try to do it without disturbing the people, that's why you might not see them. For the night security, we've got 2 persons, 1 located at the entrance and at the carpark, and the other one turn on the site. Plus, in case of emergency or need, 1 is always reachable at the entrance !

Just returned from a lovely holiday at La Yole. Toilet block was always clean and plenty of cubicles available. Occasionally had to queue for the family showers which is understandable at the end of the day. Pools were kept clean, although the outdoor one was occasionally quite cold. Alot of other campsites around the area, so the road can be quite busy. Quite noisy at night time, so getting our little ones to sleep was a task sometimes and also because the pitches are quite close at the top (recommend asking for a pitch nearer the bottom as another reviewer mentions). Frequently had noise past 10pm from young groups outside or returning from nearby club/ other, which was a shame (which we did mention and reception were understanding and helpful, although I guess quite impossible to control fully every night). Childrens play area is very good and our boys had a wonderful time throughout the stay at La Yole. St Jean De Mont beach we found the best as its sand, other smaller beaches nearby tend to be a little sharp/ shingly. Recommend visiting Noirmoutier and St Jean De Mont itself (lovely ice creams!). Overall a very nice holiday but shame about the noise at night.
