“The service really lets it down”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

This is by far the most popular restaurant on this strip by the canal and the setting is undeniably lovely on a summers evening. We booked a table the previous night and arrived to find a lovely table reserved for us right by the waters edge. The food was average and averagely priced, we both had starters which were good, my husband had the fish soup and I had the crepe. For main course I had steak which was pricey at 23 Euros and not that great, my husband had the burger which he said was 'ok' but it was reasonably priced. The thing that let this place down by far was the service which was pretty appalling, we waited for ages for everything and we werent in a rush so didn't mind waiting but when I say ages, I mean ages! The waiter studiously ignored us as long as he possibly could, my husband ordered a beer 3 times before 1 finally arrived taking over half an hour to get to him. It was really their loss as we would have ordered more drink and probably dessert if the service had been better but we got so tired of asking and playing the 'lets ignore the customers' game that we eventually gave up, got the bill which unsurprisingly came quicker than anything else and left. We wouldn't go back.

“Great good, location and value”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Had a three course menu of the day which was excellent. This place is especially good for moules which they do in about 20 different flavours. I really enjoyed the curried ones which were just in a light creamy sauce that enhanced rather than overpowered the mussels.

“Great food and lovely location”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Great food and a lovely location by the canal. You can eat inside or outside. We did the latter and even though it was pouring with rain were warm and dry under the awning and with the gas heaters. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. Slightly more expensive than some of the neighbouring restaurants but still good value and well worth it.

“Good location, good good”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

It's location is why you eat here and it does scream 'tourist trap' when you get there, but it really isn't. Some dishes are over priced but my steak was 13 euros so more than reasonable.

The food was good and the menu extensive. We enjoyed the experience.

“Bland and expensive”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

Pretty bland and expensive food, the St Jaques didn't taste much, the duck fairly dry and the potatoes were spongy. The place is crowded and not very charming.
Two stars only for the nice staff who all spoke good English and for the surprisingly good wine selection.
