“Excellent Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 19 November 2012

Very friendly and helpful service. Very hard to fault at the price and far better than the saturday evening meal we had just down the coast at Escalles and a menu a Euro a head cheaper. A couple of excellent amuse to start with whilst we had a picon bierre as aperitif. Four of us had three different starters and three different mains and all agreed we would have happily eaten each others choices. Being right opposite the local fish market you can guess their forte but actually I had the Guinea fowl. It was a large very light pastry envelope containing dismembered guinea fowl. Succulent and very easy to eat on a bed of savoy cabbage and a medium coloured but well flavoured sauce. and An unexpected palate cleanser of a mild violet flavoured unusually creamy sorbet before some first class desserts. At 28 Euros a head this was one of the best value menus I have had in France for a while. And to repeat myself, really nice but professional people.

“Creative cuisine in Calais”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We've been visiting the restaurant since it opened years ago and have always had a warm welcome and found interesting choices on the menu. There is a very good value lunch menu and a very creative a la carte menu at lunch and dinner.

“Considered the best restaurant in Calais”
Reviewed 17 October 2012

We were lucky enough to arrive in Calais during the Cote D'Opal gourmet week, and asked the concierge at the hotel where to go. He recommended Le Grand Bleu, which although slightly difficult to find ( it is on the right hand promentary of the harbour ), turned out to be a delight. The Amuse Bouche was a cauliflower foam, and this was followed by courses including a fish cappacino, cod with a moules hollandaise sauce, Maroilles cheese fried in little parcels, coffee and petit fours. The menu which cost Euro 32 also included a glass of kir and a glass of wine. Altogether it was fantastic value, and the dining room with its clever nautical motifs was the perfect accompaniment for the food.
