Lots of comments that are not all that positive about Hotel de la Plage, it is a simple 2* hotel with a brasserie right on the beach so succeeds on most counts. Parking is tight. Restaurant is well staffed with fresh fish on offer and a concise wine list. The locals pour in here on a Sunday night so do book with your hotel reservation. Rooms are a good size, if you can, get a 1st floor sea view. Bathrooms are compact with a shower that is only suitable as hand held as no curtain( a good thing) but no screen either. WI FI is woeful but free and will just about let an e mail to be sent. Small electric heater struggled even in autumn. V easy access to both port and eurotunnel.

A real find for first/last night stay and a couple of nights would still be very pleasant. Very convenient for ferry or tunnel. Calais beach is very pleasant and this hotel is as the name suggests right on it ,though not in the town proper there are a couple of good restaurants in walking distance but the hotel restaurant is much better than one might expect, great value and , significantly, popular with locals . For example Bistro Menu 12.9 Euro Superb buffet starter ,plat du jour (choice of three, fish dishwas excellent) both generous portions and very reasonably priced wine list. Had no time for breakfast but saw very appetizing buffet. Good parking, pleasant staff nice sea view with ferries coming and going what's not to like?

Obviously November is cheap season but even so a clean adequate room, 2 very pleasant dinners and a bottle of Muscadet for £69 has to be a bargain. Choosing between this and budget hotels that are located on industrial estates and require you to drive to get anything to eat is a no brainer.. We will return

Room Tip: Sea view worth probably worth the extra especially in the summer.

Stayed one night only. Initially there was no crib bed in the room but it was quickly sorted out. Reception very helpful. We did not eat but noticed that the attached restaurant was always busy and the plates looked massive. Room was basic and a bit small but was clean and had everything. Free parking. Very close to the beach. Close to ferry port. Note that there is no lift so you may have to carry up your stuff if your room is on the first floor.

Booked through late booking site and got great price £36 was only looking for a place to sleep as had early ferry to catch but was pleasantly surprised , room was a bit small but clean and needs more lighting ( two small wall lights just not enough ) , restaurant was good and reasonably priced the waiting staff were very helpfull and friendly , the beer was excellent too , all in all just what we needed but maybe not if on a longer holiday stay

Stayed here before it was renovated and it is good value for money. The rooms are basic but clean, food is good value and the bar is not expensive which is a surprise in France located on the sea front so easy to get in and out A good value hotel i would return.

Booked through booking.com, arrived at Hotel De La Plage to be told our room is in the hotel next door, the awful Hotel du Golf...nothing like the pictures online for Hotel De La Plage , the Hotel du Golf is a 70's style run down hotel. The carpets were thin, furniture so old, really needs replacing. 2 small single beds pushed together, so uncomfortable. Not a happy stay. The receptionist from the Hotel De La Plage said the rooms are bigger in Hotel du Golf .... we did not book a hotel for the size or room, we wanted a nice looking room. Do not recommend.
I have complained to booking.com, but they did nothing about it.

Room Tip: Don't book with booking.com

We arrived in the dark and rain, but check in was easy. The reception was okay, we were asked if wanted to pay extra for breakfast, but declined. We paid 40E for a night, so our expectations were not high really.
The stairs and corridor up to the rooms on the first floor are a little bleak. We were given room 41, which had a very good view of the beach.
The room was very dark, 1 table lamp, 2 bedside lamps which were very dim, and a bathroom light, the switch being in the room, over the toilet! Wardrobe was dinghy and not very nice, but bed linen looked clean and of good quality.
The bed was not the most comfortable, and the mattress not good. I rolled over into the middle of the bed, which affected my sleep quality. Pillows were ok, and there was an extra cushion.
Good size TV but strange location, difficult to view from bed. BBC 1 and 2, which is good. Electric radiator in room but warm enough. Kettle and plastic cups, which were okay, but not the best.
Plenty of hot water. Quiet overnight. Did not eat at the hotel, so can't comment on this.
The main reasons this was marked as a 2 not a 3.
1: No shower screen/curtain, although there obviously has been one fitted previously.
2: Cleanliness - the floors are laminate but they were gritty, as if there was sand on them. Not a nice feeling.
3: Noise - not the best for soundproofing and if someone is in the corridor, easy to hear them and therefore, sleep quality affected.
4: There was a dog in the next room, and you could hear it 'scratting' on the floor, especially at 6.30am, when it wanted to go out!
5: No Do Not Disturb sign, so cleaner came into our room at 10.30, although check out is given as 11.30am! Not good.
Overall, location is good for ferries, VFM was good but on this stay, would not return nor recommend. No where near the quality of the budget hotels we have stayed in for similar price.
