We stayed at the Metropol hotel for one night as a stop-over before taking the Eurotunnel train to England early the next day. For this purpose, the Metropol is in an excellent location, only a few minutes drive from the Eurotunnel terminal. This is the main reason we chose to stay here. Like some other reviewers, we found the hotel to be dated and just a bit shabby, but it was also comfortable and clean. The public areas, including the breakfast room, were quite charming with their dark wood panelling and old-fashioned windows. The staff were genuinely very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was hot and cooked to order - what a rarity! If you don't mind staying in a hotel that probably has seen better days but still retains some characterful old-world charm and you need to be close to cross-channel transportation, we recommend the Metropol. If you are hard to please or prefer generic chrome, glass and a modern look, find a different place to stay. We would happily stay here again on our next trip across the channel.

The rooms where I slept in the past (more than once) smelled of smoke - they were extra-small and OLD... Everything is old in this hotel. Only the receptionists are not old yet.
The breakfast is basic... the location is sad.
The only good thing is the fact that is located next to the train station and the bus stop for the ferry.
There are so many other hotels around the city where you can invest the same amount of money in a much better stay!

Room Tip: Hotel Ibis Style - wonderful service - beds - rooms - location--- and great breakfast!

We took the hotels only suite and found it dated but spacious. There are no windows so there is no natural light. The staff were excellent and spoke english as needed. Problem at 8.30pm when a rock band started in the bar next door and we could clearly hear the thumping of the bass. Staff spoke to bar manager twice and music ceased at 10.30pm. Breakfast was provided free as compensation for noise.

Stayed in their suite, little worried when sent through a courtyard to get to it but its a lovely big room with 2 huge beds and a massize bath !!
Night ported was fantastic, opened bar up when returned late, gave directions and could not do to much to help.
Would definately stay again.

Room Tip: Book the Suite.

Stayed here on our way to and from holiday - a great place to break a journey and one of the few with a 24 hour concierge so we could check in at mid-night when our ferry docked. Staff very friendly, all speak English if your French is a but rusty. Secure parking is a real bonus.
