“Could be a great stay but the little things let it down.”
Reviewed 11 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We stayed here to visit WW1 war graves. Prior to booking we checked on restuarants in Ribemont and were told the Mouton Noir was open daily, except Sundays. Unfortunately this was not so and only opened when the owners felt like it. The place was also uninviting. We were also told that you coukdvwalk to the restuarant which was also difficult.

The Orangery was a nice environment with electric heating, needed in the evening. It had a very modern kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen need some practical utensils in it for cooking, such as tongs etc. The bathroom had a shower which was extremely difficult to switch off (my wife could not turn the control as it was so stiff). During the week the toilet also started to block but this was quickly sorted by the owner.

Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?   No.

Fred, thank you for your review. To clarify, our very local restaurant le Mouton Noir, Ribemont is a15 minute walk, doorstep to doorstep, (I walked it yesterday and it is just under a mile), 5mins by car. They publish their opening times on the internet, open every day except Mondays. My wife and I eat there from time to time and even the day after the Brexit vote, were made very welcome. We find it a very homely atmosphere, with a decent meal at a reasonable price, which suits us fine. I would, and do recommend it.

I'm here on site and available to sort out any unforeseen problems or requests. I checked early on in your stay to see if everything was to your satisfaction; your reply then was "yes it's good" which sounded reassuring. The shower control felt normal to me when I cleaned it before your stay, however it is new so may have required a little effort to turn. I will monitor and replace it if it does not ‘bed in.’ Blocking up the toilet, is embarrassing but thankfully, something I've only had to deal with once over the years. The brand new super duper toilet plunger has finally been taken out of it’s box! Martin.

“Idyllic quiet getaway! ”
Reviewed 28 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We stayed here for 3 nights on the last leg of our honeymoon. It was a perfect last stop for us. The Orangery is lovely. Recently renovated..it has everything you could need. The building is full of light, typical of an orangery building of old. The Chateau is situated approx 2 hours from the coast making it an ideal stop on your way either up or down the country. We travelled to Zeebrugge for the boat back to Hull. There is easy access to the local supermarket which is quite large and sells most things. The setting is quiet but that was fine for us. We would Def visit again.
