“Great Stay in Cassis”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

I would like to praise the owners and their daughter, Alexa. We had a wonderful stay at their hotel. All three went out of their way to make us comfortable. Their advice about the beautiful town of Cassis was extremely helpful. Alexa speaks good English, and she did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant one. The family let us use the breakfast area for two afternoon "picnics" with the food we brought with us from the Arles market. They also offer a shuttle to and from the train station which we were very thankful for!

We were here for 5 nights from the 4th of June.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt very welcomed by the hosts, Frank and his daughter Alexa. I am not up to much with my French yet, but Alexa did a fantastic job in helping us out. Alexa is quite a star turn, and we enjoyed talking to her in the mornings where she would let us know about things that were going on in the town, such as the market on Wednesdays and Fridays. Frank was also very friendly and helpful too, letting us know of the better restaurants and bars in the town. The pair of them made great hosts.

The room we got was great, very clean, good size, nice and quiet too, and the on suite bathroom was also a great size.

The breakfasts were excellent, and we really looked forward to these every morning. For breakfasts, there was Croissants, baguettes, and other types of bread, served with a choice of different spreads. There was also yogurts and cereals. The Croissants were always fresh, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, delicious. We also had fresh ground Coffee, again this was delicious, and we got orange juice too.

The hotel is in a great location, and it takes only 5 minutes or less on foot to get down to the port, and into the center of town.

This was the best hotel we stayed in during our 12 days in the region, and we will definitely book here again when we come back.

Thanks,
Barry and Eilidh

My boyfriend and I traveled through France and this was one of the nicest stay we had! The owner were very friendly, he even made me a coffee, even the bar was closed! We booked the romantique room, it was very nice. Even it was a bit small, we had rooms which were more small through our trip ;) Thank you for the warm stay!

We were here for 3 nights in May and loved Cassis. The location of the hotel is great, just steps away from the main area and there is secured parking. Both Sabrina and Frank were friendly and helpful. Sabrina speaks both French and Italian, while Frank speaks French and English. The breakfast was adequate - they provide a basket with croissants, a baguette, and bread along with yogurt and cereal.

We had a room upstairs (la Romantique) which faced inland. No view of the ocean but it didn't matter since we didn't stay in our rooms for long. The room was a little tight but I don't think it's that small for European standards. (Enough room to walk around the bed and to put a piece of luggage up against the wall. The bathroom was nice, clean and updated. Unfortunately since our room was the furthest away, we did not get any wifi in our room and had to go down to the eating/dining area to get wifi. The mistral blew in the night we arrived, and the windows did not seal properly so it was quite noisy the first night we stayed there. Afterwards, it died down so we didn't have much of an issue with the noise. The rooms were well kept and clean.

Overall a good place to stay and good value.

We stayed in the suite, Cap Canaille. The room and the views are amazing. There is a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and balcony off of the bedroom. The balcony has a table and a great view of Cap Canaille. The living room looks the other way toward the city and the Calanques. We were also able to watch the beachfront fireworks from the living room window.

I can't say enough about the owners, Franck and Sabrina. They are constantly around the hotel making sure the guests are happy. They also know where the best restaurants are and what events are happening in Cassis (like the fireworks!)

If you are planning on visiting Cassis, do yourself a favor and stay at this hotel and spring for this suite/apartment. The only downside is that the suite doesn't have in-room wifi as of May 2013, but you can use it in the lobby. And let's face it - who goes to Cassis to sit in the room and surf the Internet the entire trip?

My husband and I went to Cassis in September of 2012. We had a fantastic time! We got there at the end of the tourist season so it wasn't crawling with people. Hotel de France Maguy is a nice hotel. The husband and wife team go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and fun. When we arrived the host gave us a map of the town and circled restaurants that he thought we would enjoy. His English wasn't great but we were able to guess what he was trying to say!

Breakfast consisted of bread, coffee and juice. It was basic but good. The owner makes coffee to order which I thought was nice.

The room was small but the bathroom was larger than expected so that was nice! We had the room with the balcony. Unfortunately the balcony only offers a few of the hotel parking lot. We sat out there anyway and had a bottle of wine and enjoyed the fresh air.

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to town. Perfect location to get away from the crowd.

We had such a great time at Hotel de France. The hosts were so friendly and accommodating, great room, and literally only a 2 minute walk into the heart of Cassis! We tried to stay for longer, but they were all booked up, so get your reservations in! It was also great having free parking at the hotel. I would NOT recommend driving in Cassis or trying to find parking!! Overall, wish we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: We stayed in a family room, which had too many beds, but it had a private bathroom. The other rooms...
