“Beautifull area - was closed due to fire risk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Beautifull area. Before hiking there you should ask the tourist information whether it is open. Most of it was closed due to fire risk, when we went there.

“The hike, the nature reserve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

High above Cassis the Calanques nature reserve allows hiking on the cliffs high above the inlets of the Mediterranean. You can also do one of the many boat trips out of Cassis to visit them from sea level. I did the walk or hike. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking but there are some cautions. It is a rocky climb that can be quite challenging if you are a little older or infirm. I went on a holiday weekend and felt like I was in the middle of a pilgrimage there were so many people tramping along in the same direction. It can get very hot so take lots of water. Also be aware that in Summer they may close the park due to extreme fire risks. It's well worth the effort, you will get some great pictures. And the good news is that you can go long or short depending on your energy and capability.

“A 'must do' for any vist to Provence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

Our guide book recommended the 3 Callanques trip, saying the first 3 plus the trip in and out the harbour and views of the coast, the port and the mountains inland were as good as anything provided in the more extensive trips. We were perfectly satisfied with the 3 Callanques trip, seeing a variety of rock forms, cliffs and inlets. We followed up with a tour along the route des creates, crossing the highest sea cliff in Europe - 400 m.

“Quaint town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

Sweet town, all roads lead straight down to the beach. There are numerous shops, restaurants and cafes along the streets as well as around the beach area. The feel is laid back, the people are friendly. The beach is small but the water is beautiful. We had crepes, club sandwiches and white wine from the area of Provence. Coaches and buses cannot enter the town due to the small streets so a little tram brings larger groups into town. Another bonus to visiting Cassis is the absolutely incredible scenic coastline and mountainous drive into the town.

“Absolute must see if you're in PACA”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014 via mobile

I came from Montpellier just to see cassis and its calanques. Amazing! The boat tour of all 8 was breathtaking and refreshingly cool in the 31 degree heat. Wear sun cream and bring a shawl to cover up.
