“Try the Bistro”
Reviewed 10 May 2013

Much has been written about this Michelin starred restaurant on the outskirts of Roaix.Having dined there on a number of occasions in recent years,we can echo other comments about the fresh seasonal ingredients, creative presentations and combinations that do not detract from the top notch ingredients and wonderful staff and setting. What diners should know is that there are in fact two restaurants here-the michelin starred one that has the choice, extras and pazzzaz that go with it and the bistro which has a much more limited choice but serves food prepared by the same chefs in the same kitchen-as good as the former but in a more casual setting and at a fraction of the cost.

“Dear Food of France, Thank you for being great again...”

I reckon my Photos speak for themselves. If they don't, then perhaps they will chew for themselves. If they don't, then I'll leave that up to you.

“Delicious Surprise in Vaison-la-Romaine”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

We planned a day trip to Vaison-La-Romaine, and we just found this charming and beautiful restaurant. Attention was great, food magnificent. The Lamb just melts in our mouth and the dessert was glorious. We sat in front in the window with a beautifull view of the old bridge. One of our best meals in France.

“Fabulous splurge!”
Reviewed 3 October 2012

The mark of a fabulous restaurant is one that can get you to rave about ingredients you don't even like. Le Grand Pre achieved that. The anchovy paste pre-appetizer was fabulous (I detest anchovies), and the octopus cheviche amuse-bouche was out of this world (also don't like raw octopus). And the meal went uphill from there! At 60E pp menu in the evening, it is clearly a treat, but well worth it. We ate inside since the evening was cold, and enjoyed the soothing off-white and gray decor. The service was pitch perfect, completely attentive but never overwhelming. Go, and enjoy the best meal you're going to get in the area.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed 27 September 2012

Contrary to what Trip Advisor thinks, this restaurant is not in Vaison-la-Romaine. It is in Roaix, which is close to Vaison, but a separate little town. The restaurant has one star from Michelin, and it deserves it...and is priced accordingly. It is a lovely restaurant with excellent service and fabulous food. We were a party of 4, and each of us was delighted with our meal. The wine "pairing" with your meal is highly recommended. It is quite inexpensive, at least compared to ordering 2 bottles of wine for 4 people, and the wines were well chosen and complemented the meal very nicely. Le Grand Pre also has a bistro literally next to the main restaurant that shares the same kitchen and is less expensive. We have eaten there as well, and while it was very good, we thought the extra expense of the main restaurant was worth it...at least for a special dinner. While in this area we ate twice at L'Oustalet in Gigondas, once at Les Abeilles in Sablet and once at Le Grand Pre. All were really excellent, but we thought Le Grand Pre was the best.
