“Hotel Beffroi made Vaison a special place for friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2012

Some of my friends have never been to Provence. Where is the best place to start? In Vaison La Romaine. And where is a reliable place to stay? Hotel Beffroi the belfry

-- serene breakfast area
-- great food in the restaurant (I can eat it only once a week, it's so good)
-- friendly staff (Hi, Lise and Natalie!)
-- convenient to meet with the Association to Preserve the Haute Ville aphv.fr
-- the hotel proprietor supports the Old Town association...

We recommend this hotel. We've visited in 1994, 1999, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Saw this hotel while staying in Vaison over a number of years, always wanted to visit. Completely lived up to expectations, lovely big room, spotlessly clean, with spectacular view over town and mountains. The pool and terrace provide a lovely relaxing spot, fine restaurant in courtyard or more informal on another terrace above the town, and finally Vaison has it all as a base to travel or just to relax, resataurants are good and plenty, likewise bars and the tuesday market is one of the best.......la belle france...........

Room Tip: Rooms in the annexe are very handy for the pool and getting a town view is great, so quiet and spaci...

Okay, so I've never stayed in #1 or #2, but that's because I like this hotel so much that I keep going back. I've stayed there four times now The rooms are huge and well-appointed, with a nice bathroom. The view is great. The building itself is two ancient buildings stitched together in a charming, if somewhat confusing, way. The restaurant has never failed to serve a good meal for a fair price, and the breakfasts are decent and varied by French standards, i.e., some fresh fruit, and a little meat and cheese--not just bread and jam.

This hotel has all the advantages and disadvantages of an old building. It has real character, few straight lines here, the spiral staircase adds to the atmosphere as does the room decorated with antique furniture and paintings. The same staircase makes it difficult for guests with disabilities to access guest rooms. Our room was one of the smaller rooms. We found it clean, well equipped with a wonderful view over the town. The mini-bar in the room was good value for money.
The garden and pool are fantastic ahews the food served in the courtyard....well done chef. The young men who served the food were very professional in their approach as was the manageress who made us welcome on our arrival.
Parking was limited but staff do their best to ensure your car is parked opposite the hotel. You need to leave your keys with the reception.
We had a wonderful visit to this hotel and hope to return in the future.

I booked this hotel following the indication on the Lonely Planet Guide, but when we got to our room I could not understand the reason why it was in the guide. There are positive points: the location was good, the surroundings are beautiful, the pool looked nice, and the breakfast was ok as well as the garden. But the room, which I think is one of the most important features of a good hotel, was really really old and dusty. The bed and the mattress were uncomfortable, the wallpaper and the floor stained, the bathroom was no good either. The room smelled like dust and I felt like I was in Madame Bovary's room. I would not recommend it.

Loved being in medieval section up the hill overlooking the town. Rooms are very clean, spacious. If noise is a problem be sure to get a room in the annex building as we were in a room overlooking the bell tower, lovely room and views but bell goes off every hour and a half, all night, unlike Italy where the church bells stop about 11 PM. Restaurant was very good and has a lovely patio if the weather is warm. Breakfast is standard fare, nothing special. Town of Vaison is a great place to base to see this part of Provence. Be sure to visit the Roman theater in Orange, really fantastic, but the town of Orange has nothing else to see. Hotel has parking but very narrow, steep drive up to it through tunnel, small cars only.

Room Tip: Stay in the annex building, not where the reception desk is, farther from bell tower, to not hear be...

le Beffoi was a wonderful hotel. It's located on the hill above the town, in the "old town" section (Roman era). Electic rooms, fashionably laid out. Great views from rooms. Very difficult to drive to- very narrow streets, and even the Tourist Info Center's directions were incorrect. Nice breakfast. We stayed too early in the season- they weren't serving dinner yet. But we stayed outside (one had a cigar) and we enjoyed the sound of the French version of cicadas (even in early April). The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Room Tip: Be prepared for narrow streets when going there!
