“Great Place to stay”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

Very Gothic, and fun to walk! This place was one of my favorites in 2013, I took the opportunity to visit wine country in the south of France and this was a highlight of my tour. people are friendly and the restaurant is good, not great, but also not expensive.

We stayed at the at the Hostellerie Le Beffroi for 3 nights while on a walking tour of the area in April. We entered the drawing room where the ancient skeleton keys were handed out and room assignments made; then navigated the worn and curved steps up to our room.

Our room looked out over a beautiful courtyard and fountain. The room was quite spacious versus others I stayed in Paris..it had 2 single beds that would be pushed together for one larger one. It had a full updated bathroom with bidet.

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast quite similar to other hotels in the area. We had a glass of wine in the garden every evening before dinner which was lovely.

We did have dinner at the hotel restaurant - this was not one of the better meals we had while in France. There is an Italian restaurant just down the hill but not over the bridge into town (sorry I don't recall the name) where we had pizza one evening and it was delicious.

There is a weekly market in town that we were able to attend while there. It was by far the biggest one we encountered and it was wonderful. Just down the hill and across the 2000 year old Roman bridge and you're there. All kinds of food, clothing, scarves, linens, jewelry and even the opportunity to buy lavender. Confirm with the front desk, but I believe it is on Tuesdays.

We had a wonderful time in Vaison La Romaine. Enjoy!

My entire experience of France was beyond any expectation. I travelled having only this hotel reserved for two nights during my 8 day holiday. I stayed mainly in Avignon. Taking the bus to Vaison La Romaine was easy and stopping in Carpentras was great. Vaison was beautiful, the Medieval village, this hotel and everything in eye sight was outstanding. I couldn't recommend anything as highly as this, provided you like walking! I can't wait to go back! Be sure to have atleast one breakfast at the Creperie. I had an amazing dinner but wish I could remember the name. It was not in the Medieval village but was just across the river, downstairs of the building. It shouldn't be missed. The whole place was like being in a stone cave. A great experience. Sorry I can't remember the name. Any where you eat here, the food will be good.

I visited on a cycling trip through Provence in August. It is a very old hotel dating back a few centuries And the monks used to live the re. It has been upgraded. But the facilities are still poor army room overlooked the street and was small dinghy smelly and stuffy and very noisy at night. The lady told me it was a "special room" for me !! And I paid single supplement at that! The other rooms are nicer and had panoramic views of the town below. The restaurant was nice but breakfast Hall was really small and the breakfast buffet table was small and awkward. Staff were nice. I will probadly only stay this once.

We have given this lovely little hotel an excellent despite some minor issues. A very warm welcome from the delightful English-speaking Lisl. took us to our very atmospheric rooms. Our son's looked out to the mountains, ours onto a picturesque little courtyard with fountain. He had stayed here previously and enjoyed it then. The location is brilliant; it really is worth being in the centre of this gorgeous, medieval village. There is parking very close by but my advice is park a little way down the hill just outside the town wall as, unless you are arriving early - or late - can be very tricky navigating through narrow streets crawling with pedestrians. The room was spacious and we appreciate twin beds however, with the best will in the world, one could not define them as comfortable with marked dip in the middle. But, the room was quiet. The wifi works well although you do have to re-renter the password each time logging on but this a minor quibble. Breakfast in the lovely garden was delightful with great views over the valley and the lady who finalised the account as we left also very charming. We will come back to this area again and absolutely, would hope to stay here.

Room Tip: We had "Vert" and would recommend this for the space and outlook.

This is a unique hotel on the hill of Vaison La Romaine overlooking the town. The hotel is an original building which has been well maintained. We had a fantastic view over the town and the wider area. Lots of stone steps which are amazing, but need to be careful. Pool is on a terrace overlooking the area also. Breakfast on the terrace was nice ,but we ate dinner in the town.Driving upto the hotel is interesting through the narrow streets. Would definitely stay again.

Two years ago we ate lunch there and decided we need to spend a night there. This summer we did! It was gorgeous: the ambience of the renaissance building, the pool on the terrace overviewing the city, the perfect French dinner, the comfortable beds!
