In the south of France there are many cathedrals and abbey churches of more architectural distinction than that of Notre-Dame de Nazareth in Vaison. That said, the severe Romanesque structure with the more refined cloisters that lead off it are well worth visiting if you are in the town for other reasons.
Sitting quietly and having got used to the sombre lighting after the intense Provençal sunshine outside, I could appreciate the fine proportions of building and it was the simplicity of the design that gave the building its charm and sense of peace.
With its ancient foundations and prominent position in the townscape you should definitely include the cathedral when in Vaison. It is an important part of the whole mosaic.
