This bridge is still standing after nearly 2,000 years and is an amazing sight. It connects the new and medieval sides of Vaison la Romaine across a gorge and if you are in the area, don't miss it.

Can you imagine a bridge built centuries ago that is being used today by cars and trucks and that survived a flood that destroyed a bridge built to replace it? That is the Roman Bridge. Lovely.

My husband and I packed a picnic and walked from our apartment to a picnic site on the shore of the L'Ouveze river. This is a wonderful place to spend an hour looking up to the Haute Village and to the Roman bridge. after lunch we hiked through the medieval village to the "castle on the peak. The bridge is worth seeing and experiencing. For a Canadian it is awe inspiring to see and use a structure which was built 2000 years ago, a structure which has with stood all the adversities Mother Nature could throw its way and is still used in every day life. Those Romans, what a civilization .This town of Vaison has it all, it is small enough to be cosy, walk everywhere and big enough to have 30 restaurants two of which areMichelin starred.

Amazing to think that this bridge, used by heavy traffic every day is some 2000 years old. To think that it was fully immersed in water during the floods in 1992, as it is about 60 feet high
