“The Bastide Never Disappoints”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

We have been going to Vaison, and the Bastide from many years. To say it feels like home may sound far-fetched but once you succumb to its lure, you will dream of it all year and when you arrive you will feel like you are better than home. The setting is incredible, with magnificent views of the mountains and the vineyards, and gorgeous landscaping. You can see all this from the pool, which is gorgeous and well-equipped. The common rooms (living room, panoramic balcony, and billiard room) are tasteful and just great for the rare rainy day. The Bastide is five minutes by car from Vaison, a lively town with lots of restaurants and opportunities for people watching. Yet once you turn down the little road that leads you to the Bastide, you feel as if you are miles away, and the total quiet makes that even more a reality. Marie, the owner, thinks of everything, even English and French newspapers in the morning and the local fruits in season that are at their peak. The five rooms have several price levels, and are beautifully equipped with toiletries, towels, antique-style furniture, modern fixtures, flashlights...even complimentary corkscrews and Perrier and Evian in the refrigerator! We have met people from all over the world at the Bastide and when Marie cooks her superb dinners always have great Provencal food and lively conversation. This beautiful old house draws you in, and never lets you go. Long may it thrive!

Room Tip: I don't want to disclose as it would be always booked.

We spent a brilliant 3 days in Bastide la Combe, a large guest house with 5 rooms. Even though the house was full, it was still very quiet as the house is spacious and surrounded by vineyards in the middle of the provencal countryside. It is only a 5 minute drive into the town Vaison la Romaine but we found it was much more peaceful staying outside the town.

The welcome to the house was warm and all the questions we had were fully answered. The parking was only a few metres from the house and we were helped with our suitcases. We were also welcomed by a lovely Golden Retriever who is the most gentle dog I've ever met!

We stayed in La Terrasse which is a lovely quaint room with two single beds and a private terrasse that overlooks the garden. Lavender soap and honey shampoo gave us a real insight into the regional products.

Breakfast too was really lovely - homemade jam from the owner and fresh bread, croissants and brioche along with seasonal fruits. We were lucky enough that Marie was at the house during our stay and so we ate dinner with the other guests. If this is available during your stay it is a must as the meal was delicious and the company fascinating!

There is lots to see and do in the area and just relaxing by the gorgeous pool in the summer sunshine was fabulous. Swimming pool towels were provided - a nice addition as many other places we stayed did not offer this.

Our stay here was really unique and I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a relaxing stay in Provence!!

This lovely, friendly retreat combines understated elegance and comfort with a very down-to-earth feel of rural Provence--it's a centuries-old stone farmhouse that's nicely renovated but not glitzed up. The very gracious owners were out puttering in the garden; there's a sense (or happy illusion) of visiting friends in the country. The pool will spoil other pools for you; the views across the vineyards to Mont Ventoux and Les Dentelles are spectacular; and Vaison-la-Romaine is well worth a visit itself. The rooms are spacious and private, the bed was so deliciously comfortable and the countryside so delightfully quiet after a week of crummy, noisy AirBnB in Lyon. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: There are only two or three rooms--it's more of a Maison d'Hotes than a hotel--and both room...

We had great 2 days in this little paradise.
The view on the mountains and vineyards is breathtaking.
We made the most of it by having 'Gigondas' red wine by the swimming pool.
The room 'les vignes' was spacious and comfortable.
Don't miss the breakfast with homemade jam amazing french baguette, croissant and brioche.
If you love nature and are looking to get away for a couple of days this is the perfect spot.

We found Bastide la Combe on tripadvisor, and because it was rated so highly, we booked our rooms months in advance. We weren't disappointed. This small country hotel is elegant, the staff superb, and the grounds and surrounding vineyards beautiful and serene. The English speaking staff helped us with dinner recommendations in Vaison, which is a five minute drive by car. The morning "petit de'jeuner" was a nice way to start the day. Marie and Christine, "merci beaucoup."

I am writing this review a year late because I wanted to be sure to get a reservation when we returned. We stayed here last June and it remains one of our favorites. It is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the effort to find - particularly if Fabienne is cooking. All the raves here are correct. It surpassed our expectations.

Room Tip: We stayed in La Tour and found it spacious, comfortable and an incredible value. It also has a gorge...

Normally I find that a property I've researched or booked online isn't quite as good as I had expected - well Bastide la Combe was the exact opposite. Although I had researched Bastide la Combe prior to leaving Australia for our honeymoon, I had held off on booking because I was looking for that special place...Thankfully, the gods were with me because when I did decide to book - even though it was mid August in the European Summer, we were lucky enough to get what Marie described as "the best room of the house". Being the eternal skeptic (at least when it comes to accommodation bookings) I still only booked two nights - and kept researching a getaway plan...Well from the moment we arrived, we couldn't believe how beautiful and welcoming Bastide la Combe was. The location is no less than idyllic, a peaceful valley and the home of Domaine Du Soleil Romain, but that is just the start. The house is equally as peaceful, although it was full when we stayed, and the decor is classically provincial, elegant, seemingly effortless and most importantly warm and welcoming. The surprises kept coming, from the amazing room - unbelievably big (a bedroom, sitting room, double bathroom, separate toilet) and all with dreamy views across the vineyard to Mt Ventoux - then on to the swimming pool, the breakfast terrace (simple but yummy breakfast) and the dinner that Marie hosted (and cooked wonderfully for) bringing all the guests together one night. I could go on, and on - but in short - it is so good, I thought twice about writing this review - because I'd like to keep it a secret! But of course, that would be to rob others of the wonderful experience we had at Bastide la Combe - the most memorable stay of our honeymoon and a memory that will stay with us forever...of course, we will be back as soon as we can!

Room Tip: We stayed in La Tour - Marie said it was the best of the house and we agree!!
