“Affordable Chinese food round the corner from Switzerland....”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

Good grub starters, main & desserts from the buffet and affordable prices. Don't expect great decor or service but a lively atomosphere- I'll be back soon!!

“Cheap, dirty and gross”
Reviewed 16 March 2013

I don't even know where to start because the experience was very disappointing bad.

Service: Dismal. No one knew we entered the restaurant till 15 mins later. No smiles nor polite greetings but an abrupt ' what drink do you want'?

Food:
Buffet spread had variety but not good ones at that... Only the sushi barely passed the mark.
Stir-fries were oily, chicken was not fresh... Obviously frozen and defrosted and not freshly chopped and cooked. French beans were yellow and droopy from being overlooked and drenched in oil. Fried fish had 80% batter and 20% fish. Dessert was average... Only good thing I ate was the freshly sliced pineapple and the 8 flavours of ice-cream available.

Value: good value if you were looking for.fast, cheap and filling eat. If you enjoy good food in a nice setting... Wrong place to go to!

Atmosphere: we were surrounded by labourers/ workers ( not blue collared workers), hound students and pensioners. If you are looking for a classy eat with girls... AVOID AT ALL COST! This is where you would go if you want to eat as much as you can for €12, regardless of quality or taste of food.

“Scary”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

The atmosphere is as if you stepped into your grandmother's house after she spent some time shopping for cheap trinkets in the Orient. But some restaurants like that also have great food. But wait first you have to order from someone who clearly is intent on terrorizing the order out of you, intimidating you with an attitude- and we were the customers. I thought at any moment we were either going to be kicked out or forced into the kitchen to wash the dishes. I started to make all kinds of excuses so that it won't turn into a horrible experience for my kid. I started to say that women in the orient are strong and domineering anything to get rid of that woman and hopefully once the food arrived it would become a better experience. Alas, it just got worse, bland tasteless vietnamese food, so sad it can't even be an apology for vietnamese food. To think we actually had to pay money for this experience even now makes me wish I never ever thought of going in there. Their must be a system where once a restaurant reaches that level of inefficiency and horror, three strikes and your out. Their license should be withdrawn and revoked. Some people shouldn't have anything to do with the public and Saigon management and owners clearly belong to that group.

“Not Thai and not brilliant”
Reviewed 26 November 2012

I visited on a Wednesday evening, paying €19 for the buffet option. The terms 'ok' and 'mediocre' sprIng to mind.

The decor was ok and in keeping with most other Chinese restaurants I've been to, shame it was meant to be Thai. The similarities sadly did not stop there as (with the exception of the [Japanese] sushi) everything proffered could be found on any basic Chinese menu.

With no actual Thai cuisine my optimism asserted that all may not be lost as the stunning quality would make up for this simple geographical hick-up, another hick-up followed. The sushi was next to a hot tray and the contents of the hot trays, although only tepid, made the sushi to warm. Aside from this there were no problems other than the food not being special in any way, the exception here being the sorbets, wow, amazing, flavourful and mouthwatering although not bought in.

The floor staff all speak at least basic English.

“Definitively worth a visit”
Reviewed 25 November 2010

The Royal Thai is located about 10 minutes from Geneva's Airport, minutes from the Ferney-Voltaire custom's post. It offers a fixed price buffet with quite an extensive range of Thai dishes and sushi for 12 Euro at lunch-time and 18 Eur in the evenings and weekends. The restaurant has undergone extensive renovation in the summer of 2010 creating a pleasant atmosphere in the quieter evenings, while they are always full during lunch-time breaks.
In the summer it is possible to sit outside, though it is not the most glamorous of locations, near a super-market that does have the advantage of there always being parking space.

Overall their offerings do not vary too much throughout the week, but the choice makes up for this and the price allows one to go back for more, though it must be said that 12 Euro is on average what one pays in this part of France for a 3 course lunch, inclusive of mineral water or a glass of wine. This restaurant can be recommended for families and people of all age-groups though we recommend that people do not come much later than 13h30 as the cook will not add food much later than that as most people are back at work at 14h00.
