“A great place to stay”

I've spent one night in this hotel during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The room was clean and very well equipped. The neighbourhood is quiet but inviting. The staff is friendly and attentive, although most of them don't speak english at all, the Hotel manager being the exception. The Restaurant is the pinnacle of the establishment, a traditional french gourmet restaurant offering exceptional dishes for corresponding prices. The breakfast offer on the other hand is nothing exceptional. A well prepared continental breakfast just as you could except in any other B&B.

Stayed for one night as we were flying in and out of Geneva. Fairly easy to miss the hotel if you do not get off the bus at the right stop (take the 'Y' bus from the airport) and then it is a good 10 minute walk to the hotel. On arrival, the owner seemed a bit impatient on checking us in (maybe stressed?), and there was no offer of help with bags to our room which was on the third floor and there is no lift in this hotel. Room was very clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was really excellent, but expensive, as was the breakfast which we decided not to have, based on the price. Overall a nice enough hotel, but overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor, there is no lift.

We stayed in this hotel in april. Room was on 3rd floor and was okey. Bathroom was very clean, room was clean so big plus for that. Wi fi worked. In room was mini bar! The room didn't had air condition, but for me that isn't problem, just open the window :)

I stayed here while on business in Geneva. Its rooms are more the style of a good quality chambre d'hote/bed and breakfast than a hotel. However, the hotel is small and very clean with a decent breakfast. Apart from breakfast, I did not eat in the hotel. It is a 30 minute bus journey from downtown Geneva. Beware that in the evenings buses only run about once per hour.

Stayed here last year, so looking forward to return trip. Very disappointed by unfriendly staff, but otherwise perfectly adequate if you are catching a flight - just 5 mins down the road. The nearby L'Azzurra (2 mins walk) as good as ever, but book in advance to avoid having to wait for a table.

Room Tip: No lifts, so if you've lots of luggage, choose a first floor room!

Hotel de France looks like the only game in town....or rather in the village. You do not have too many options in Ferney, a comatous suburb of Geneva on the other side of the French border. If you do not crave the charmless chains of hotels designed to welcome herds of international organizations' delegates, you may yield to the temptation of the Hotel de France classic style and facade. Next time, I'll think twice and run to the local mercure or novotel. The service is, well, there is no service. Top floor room is acrid with food smells so strong that you cannot sleep through the night. Everything is dusty and sort of musty, faded and in need of renovation. Owners really sweet and nice, but that does not make it for the price of this place.

Room Tip: Try hotels in Geneva instead

This is a lovely family run hotel on the edge of Switzerland - yet the hotel could be nothing else but French. It is small, homely, friendly and comfortable. Not luxurious - our room was small and furnished with old style wardrobe and dressing table... a comfortable double bed and a pristine shower room. We had a window over the town square - a typically French scene, shady trees, an elegant fountain, local cafe with tables outside, and a quirky statue of Voltaire - the pedestrian shopping streets are nearby and we loved the Saturday market. Our only criticism was that the room was very warm and we didn't seem able to turn off the radiator, which meant open windows and a noisy early morning. We walked to the Chateau Voltaire where we had an informative tour and a stroll through beautiful gardens - a massive magnolia tree was in full pink bloom. Breakfast was Ok and and dinner was very good.

Room Tip: No lift, so if you have a problem with stairs or carrying suitcases, ask for a room on the first flo...
