“Nice hotel for the price and the region”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

Looking at the Genevois region and the avarage prices I think this hotel is in the good ones. For 64 euros/night it is really OK. Clean room, new furniture and nice bathroom.
It is not a high quality Hotel but it is really OK comparing with all the ones around with higher pirce (Ibis for example).
I sleep 4 times/month in the region, I know many hotels and the good ones are too expensive for what they give extra!

Very nice hotel for staying, not so far from Geneva downtown and from the Alps. I stayed in the hotel one night for resting after a long car trip. The hotel is located just before the Alps Mountains. The breakfats is very good. It would be nice to have the option for the eggs since they are only offered boiled. The staff is very nice.

Comfortable ,basic, clean rooms, comfy beds & very helpful friendly staff,

If you want to explore Geneva without paying expensive swiss prices Hôtel Porte de Genève is a 20 min walk from the French/Swiss border where the tram line starts which will take you into the centre of Geneva in around 10-15 mins (cost 4.50 euros each)

We hired a car for 5 days of our trip and drove too Chamonix,Megeve & Annecy all of which make great day trips, i would not advise staying at Hôtel Porte de Genève if you do not have a car unless you are staying there specifically to visit Geveva.

Staff also advised us on a pleasant river walk to the next town Annemasse where there is more shops and restaurants as over our stay at Xmas a lot of Gaillard's restaurant where closed for the xmas holidays.
Another tip is too stock up on supply's at the shops and market on the french side of the border as it is far cheaper than the swiss side.

Room Tip: The closer too reception the room is the stronger the free wifi signal is

Got there late on a family trip toward Switzerland, stayed just one night and that was more than enough! the place is cheap, so you should not expect a lot, but there are some minimums... at least you need to have some "air" in your room, no? the room that we got stinked... and as soon as we opened the window, there was an army of bugs and mosquitos ready to pour in...
I went back to the receiption desk, there was nobody but a person who was no help... she told me she can change my room tomorrow... (I was staying for one night only!!!) we had no place to go and already paid via internet, so we had our worst night ever and escaped in the morning, I have to admit, the only reason I gave them 2 points is because of their breakfast which was really good, given the price we had paid.
Won't stay again, no way...

The problem with Geneva is that EVERYTHING is very expensive, you can save a lot by staying on the french side (for example Gaillard) Do not come to this hotel if you don't have a car, it will be a very long journey to Geneva on public transportation. The rooms are tiny and old, the staff doesn't have a clue about anything. At least the parking lot has plenty of space. At night there was a tour of french teenagers that the teacher's could not control and there was a lot of noise. Do not eat here.

After a reservation a month before our trip and mail contact two days before our arrival, we came to the reception of the hotel where a very unfriendly lady told us that the hotel is full and that she doesn't know anything about our reservation. After an argue she consented to look for our mail and our correspondence with her cooworker; she found everything but there were still no rooms for us (3 triple rooms). She called some other"hotel" of lower quality and found us three rooms; so we had an option; take it or stay on the street. Obviously, we had to accept it! I can't say anything about the rooms or hotel facilyties because we didn't have a chance to see it. Awful staff, awfull organisation.
I wouldn't reccomend this hotel to anybody. Stay out of this so called hotel.

Room Tip: Stay out of this so called hotel!!!

My boyfriend and me were taking a small tour of the Switzerland and one of our stops was Geneva. I found this hotel on the internet and - stupidly - didn't look for information about it.

We arrived at about 13.30 and nobody was there at the reception. We had to wait at least 5 minutes for someone to arrive and wonder what were we doing there.
The room they gave us, was on the ground floor. The corridor was quite small, and it lead to our room. Small, the ceiling was less than 2 mt tall (so it looked quite pokey), the beds were 2 separate ones, though I asked for a double one!, and the floor was quite dirt. We had not slippers so we just walked with our socks on and they got very dirt... mostly dust.
The door was broken I guess, cause when you got in and got out, you had to push it very hardly (making super noise) or it just wouldn't open.
The bathroom was small and not super-clean, but dirt either. I've found blonde hair on a towel (we both have dark hair...), which made me decide not to have a shower in that place.
The quality/value comparison was not right at all (56€ for one night...!!!!!)

Pros: near the centre of Geneva (if you go there by car). We also found quite a large parking zone, which was very good.

In the end, I wouldn't advice this hotel at all. Whenever we go back to Geneva, we'll look for another hotel!!
