Pierre & Vacances Residence Les Bergers

Reviewed 24 June 2014

The apartment we stayed in was modern, comfortable & well equipped. The location was excellent, with easy access to the slopes - almost ski to the door, with only a road to cross and a tiny walk between the boot room and the chair lifts.

The apartment layout is open plan, two beds in the entrance & 2 sofa beds in the living room (these are all single beds). We booked a 6 person apartment for a family of 3, this was perfect as it meant our young son could sleep in the bedroom area & we were able to maintain the living space to ourselves in the evening.

The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked in most evenings, the supermarket is only a 5 minute all away in the Commercial Centre. The apartment also comes with the option to hire a fondue set free of charge and this was delivered to our apartment on request.

We enjoyed sitting on our balcony & taking in the views after a day on the slopes and used the pool and sauna facilities every day. Both were very well maintained and a real bonus, especially the pool, which our son loved after a day at ski school.

There are cheaper options available, but if you are looking for a nice standard of self-catering then I would recommend this accommodation. We read some terrible reviews and heard some tales about some of the other apartments in Alp D'Hues and were very pleased we paid a little more. We would book this again!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor & had lovely views overlooking the pool & mountains beyond. I ima...

Beds not made so it didn't look as good as pictures on arrival. I had rang and requested south facing room overlooking pool, hair dryer and safe in room as recommend on other reviews. I got the south facing view which was great. Had to get hair dryer from reception, had to sign for it, also had to request a toaster (none left, all booked out) French games on loan free of charge monopoly fun playing in French we had a good laugh. Shower very good, plenty of power. Only one of the 2 saunas working, sauna only in use between 4pm & 7:30pm. Very glean & tidy rooms with new clean utensils, fridge hob and dishwasher. Nice complimentary cleaning pack with dishwasher tablets, sponge, cloth, dish clothes & tea towel.Sleeps 6-8' only one sofa in small kitchen area. No good for 6-8 sofa would only hold 4 people max. No Wi-fi in lobby as described on several web pages.

Dear guest,

We thank you for taking the time to write these useful comments regarding you recent stay at our residence. We are glad that you appreciated our equipment and services.

I would like to precise, however, that our apartments are self-catering and that we do propose additional services such as "beds made at arrival" (supplement). Regarding the Wifi connection, please note that a supplement is asked, as mentioned on the official Pierre & Vacances website.

We would like to apologize for the technical problem of the saunas. The concerned service has been alerted and will intervene within the soonest delay.

Regarding the Wifi connection, please note that a supplement is asked, as mentioned on the official Pierre & Vacances website.

We will continue doing our utmost to further develop the quality of our offer, your feedback helps us to make sure this is done in perfect harmony with your expectations.

Just returned from a week at Les Bergers booked through Crystal. I had read all the reviews of this accommodation before going and was a bit worried. Thankfully it was not as bad as I'd feared. There's a grain of truth in all the reviews, it depends what your priorities are. For us it was cost and proximity to the slopes, which is about as good as it gets in this resort. Not direct access to the slopes but a short flattish snow-less walk across a road and then a flat poling/towing kids section on snow to a choice of 3 lifts including one of the major lifts at the resort, the Marmot lift and Alpauris lift. We've been spoilt before with ski in and ski out, so the kids did complain a bit about the walking with skis, especially as the snow receded during our week but overall it was fine.

The accomodation is fairly basic French ski style and as such was fine. No frills, make your own beds, small living area (which served as kitchen, dining room, lounge and beds for 2 people in the 5-6 person apartment we stayed in). The cabin room was a bit odd - twin beds basically in the entrance hall, so not a huge amount of privacy but adequate for kids. A fair amount of storage space in the apartment, fairly clean, plenty of utensils and crockery in the kitchen and a nice big fridge freezer (we mostly cooked in and managed fine). The small swimming pool and sauna (only one working this week) were a bonus and we used them most days. Overall we had a great holiday and this apartment did the job required.

Room Tip: We were on floor 5 and didn't suffer from the noise others have reported - could be because it...

Dear guest,

We would like to thank your for your review. We are delighted to read that you had an excellent time in our residence Les Bergers and that you appreciated our swimming pool and the saunas as well as the equipment of your apartment. We will transfer your comment concerning the saunas to our technicians.

As expressed very well in your above review, our location nearby the main ski lifts and all necessary shops is one of our major assets. This season, however, the snow conditions were not at their best, meaning you had to walk a litte bit longer than usual.

Our residence corresponds to french standard of holiday residences. I would like to inform you that in general we are offering self-catering apartments. For a better comfort of our customers we are proposing additional services like beds made upon arrival.

Again, thank you for having shared your experience. We would be very charmed to welcome back you and your family in Alpe d’Huez.

The sofa bed was very unconfortable. TV channels only in french. Bathroom was the nicest place in the appartment. Kitchen was good. The WiFi is not for free and if you have more than one device you will have to buy a separate internet for each device...unbelievable!

Room Tip: very unconfortable sofa bed

Dear Mr. Stoilov,

We thank you for taking time to share your recent experience on our residence. We are, however, sorry to read that you qualify the beds as being uncomfortable. Especially taking into account the renovation of our residence in 2011 during which all our apartments had been newly equipped, including the mattresses and the bathroom and kitchen area.

We admit our offer of foreign TV channels is rather limited, fact, we don’t offer any channel in any foreign language at the moment.

Regarding the wifi connections, with our business partner we are working on improving our network withork. Meanwhile, should you encounter any difficulties, please contact reception.

Pierre Vacance Bergers is exactly what it says on the tin - good value, basic accommodation with easy access to the slopes. You do have to make up your beds and you may run out of clean towels over the week but the mattresses are AMAZING and the linen feels lovely and crisp. We will return I'm sure.

The holiday was booked through Thomson holidays who seemed to make it their mission to change every detail, earlier flights, delayed transfers.
We eventually arrived at Les Bergers at approximately 12.30pm to be told that the apartment would be available until 2pm at the earliest but could be as late as 5pm. The lobby was full of young people waiting to fly home so a worrying start. Luckily we did not have to wait until 5pm and when we entered our apartment it was a good size and decorated to a ok standard. There are two single beds as you enter and two beds which were part of the settee in the lounge/kitchen which either means packing one bed away every day or putting up with reduced space. The kitchen part had four rings, a dishwasher, a fridge and a microwave so no complaints there. Toilet was separate from the bathroom which worked well. I believe we were lucky when it came to noise due to the location of the apartment and our neighbours or there may have been lots of well behaved young people staying. The apartment was clean, warm and had a good view of the resort and the lifts from a small balcony. Ski lockers were small so storing a board with three sets of skis was a challenge. There is a pool and sauna which we did not use but a nice facility. We would use it again as it suited our needs as we were there for the skiing

Dear guest,

Thank you for having chosen our residence Pierre & Vacances Les Bergers. My team and I are very happy to read that our apartments corresponded your expectations and needs, the fact you enjoyed your recent stay among us.

Having read your review, please allow me to come back on two specific observations :

Indeed, as indicated on both our website and mentioned in our communications with our business partners, the apartments are available from 5 pm onwards. Our team, however, will do its utmost to hand over the keys to your apartment as soon as the cleaning has finished, allowing you to settle down.

Conscious of the lockers being small, depending on the equipment to store, please be informed that we exceptionally allow our guests storing their skiing equipment onto their balconies.

We kindly thank you for having taken the time to detail the description of the apartment. We hope welcoming you again next year. Perhaps to give the swimming pool and sauna a try after a long day of skiing?

Very good location. Fantastic view form either side. Swimming pool is an advantage. Restaurant in the lobby is also a good option. Not far from the chairlift.
Ski room should be renovated - there is no heating, so if you need to dry your shoes, you should take it to the room
Wi-Fi connection was bad and not permanent. I believe that if you charge money you should provided corresponding services - best reception of signal was in the ski-room))
