“Most bike friendly hotel in the location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

I have stayed in alp d huez many times and I have used this hotel the last few. It's by far and away the best I have used. Bike friendly with great facilities for cyclists. The staff are all polite and can not do enough to help out quests. I have recently raced there in horrendous conditions and the people from the hotel helped throughout, they improved my week there immensely.

Hi, nice family run hotel, its clean, staff are friendly, breakfast is good, rather nice view, Conveniently placed in the centre of Alpe d'huez- easy to get to the restaurants and bars. We were there for a cycling event and were given secure access to the garage.

For all the hype of Alpe d'Huez which is a wonderful active location this hotel is a great retreat. From very helpful front desk to bar and wait staff you feel as though you really are a "guest" in the best sense of the word. The rooms though small are clean tidy and have good bathroom facilities. The in house restaurant is well worth a visit or two. Highly recommend.

Julian and his family made us feel very welcome and helped us when we had an urgent issue to deal with. The rooms and hotel generally were spotless. The breakfasts at the hotel were good with a wide range of buffet food and the possibility of cooked food to order. The restaurant and bar have superb views across the mountains. Located in the picturesque, old part of Alpe D'Huez, it is close to several good restaurants and right next door to a ski-hire shop which was efficient and excellent value for money. Lifts to the higher slopes are a short walk away. Overall it was an excellent choice.

Stayed there for a week. Very nice hotel with a great location. Not far from the main street and the swimming pool (<5min of walking). 200m to the 1st station of Telecentre ski lift, which is important because 2nd station is regularly crowded in the morning. To return to the hotel you don't need a lift, just ski all the way down and than walk same 200m. Ski room is convenient, and boot hangers really make your boots dry:-)
House keeping is awesome, it's definitely one of the cleanest hotels i've ever stayed. They never bother you or knock at the door, they just KNOW when you're out. They even close window shutters in the evening when you're out for dinner.
The bar area is very cozy with a nice view. Great espresso, if you're a coffee drinker. Restaurant is nothing special, so BB would probably be a better choice.
The fitness room is very basic. Sauna is suitable for 3 people, and hamam for max 4, there's no booking and the hotel is around 38 rooms, so it could be uncomfortable.
In general, it's a good place, worth the money, we'll definitely come back.

We really enjoyed our stay at Le Castillan. It is a family run, friendly well presented hotel in a nice quiet location. The hotel very kindly upgraded us to a south facing room with a balcony which was very kind of them. With a good bathroom and separate loo the room was a good size too and very comfortable. Internet access in all areas of the hotel was excellent. The housekeeping was also of a high standard with them returning in the evening to turn down our beds and close the shutters and check towels, etc.

The restaurant was very welcoming and the food and service was of a very high standard. We would have preferred a couple of choices of mains as this course wasn't always to our taste. Despite this, we never went hungry so it wasn't too much of a problem. The bar area was beautifully decorated and furnished and was very impressive and comfortable.

The ski locker room was kept clean and warm and was not too busy, but we did go in low season. The hotel has good access to the Grande Sure lift and you can get back to the hotel without too much of an effort.

The only downside was that we didn't really like Alpe D'Huez as a ski resort so probably won't return, but to others, I can highly recommend this excellent, value for money hotel.

Room Tip: A south facing room is a must

We stayed for 1 night in July. The motel was very quiet as was the whole town. We were a bit disappointed to get a room at the back overlooking the grassy hill, when there were obviously plenty of vacant rooms with nicer, alpine outlooks. Room and decor was basic and clearly aimed for the skiing clientele. Internet was reliable and free. Breakfast was okay. Our visit to Alp du Huez was memorable more for the scenery and sights than for the motel.
