“Very happy with my stay here”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

Stayed here for European Gay Ski Week 22-29 March 2014 for which this was one of the main hotels. The rooms are basic but that's exactly what they are supposed to be, but clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic (I had breakfast & dinner included) and the staff made the place feel like home. They were the most friendly, helpful, cheerfull crew I've had the pleasure of dealing with in a long time. There weren't any school groups there for my stay so can't comment on those but i'd recommend this place any time based on my experience. As their info says they're a short walk from the bucket lifts which take you direct to the main meeting point for all the ski schools etc and you can ski back even closer than the lifts so it's as convenient as you can get for a place like this.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have balcony but mine at the back without blacony was still fine.

Stayed here for a week with 3 adult friends in March 2014. Apart from 4 other adults - the rest were school children and a few teachers. The children were very noisey - the children didn't quieten down until 12.30am and then were awake and noisey again at 6.45am, as they run around shouting and congregating on the landings.

The food = 3 course evening meal with wine/beer - edible but not as good as previous places i have stayed. Buffet breakfast was nice.

Cleanliness of the hotel could be improved....we had to report that a ladies sanitary item was laying on our balcony when we arrived...and we felt we needed to clean our own bathroom as it wasn't up to standard....not a 3 start more like a 2.

Ferral cats living within the hotel grounds, unfortunately one morning - one of them had died, so requested it to be removed - there was a lot of cat poo around the balconys.....

Staff were really nice and helpful.

The location of the hotel is good - short walk to lift - nearby shops etc.

I stayed here for 2 weeks over Xmas and New Year. The rooms are basic as the hotel is primarily for school children but they are well maintained and clean. The food Christmas week was fantastic and the Christmas dinner with champagne was excellent. The food the following week was more basic to cater for the school groups but it was still very tasty. The school groups were very well behaved and friendly. The staff are all excellent and will go the extra mile to make sure you have a great time. I am looking forward to my next visit!

The hotel was average, pool table, football table and arcade game downstairs. Comfy seating area iwth televisions, also had ood view from here. Bar with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks e.g. milkshakes etc. often had snacks (dohnuts, muffins...) Rooms were OK. Our room had 3 bunk beds and one bathroom with sepertae toilet. No lock on bathroom door and no shower curtain just a glass screen. Good amount of storage, however, the door fell of the wardrobe and took two days to get fixed. The food again was OK, very standard quality. Staff were very friendly and always willing to give help/advice. Short 3minute walk from the shops with small supermarkets, ski shops, clothes shops and restaurants. Entertainment for schools on an evening, however the children can be noisy at times and often congregate on the corrridors. The staff did try their best to put them on seperate floors to private customers. Sort walk from Ski Lift to slopes however carrying skis up and down the stairs to get to and from the lift is exhausting!

I stayed in this hotel as part of a large group just before Christmas. The hotel is situated just a short walk from the gondolas up to the 'grand domain ski' and town centre. The hotel has some spectacular views from the balcony.
Alpe d'Huez is a sizable resort, offering many facilities such as an ice rink and outdoor swimming pool. The ski tuition that I had, from the Ecole du Ski Francais (ESF) was of a high quality; I progressed from being a complete novice to being able to master a blue run at the end of the week.
La vallee Blanchee has a warm and lively atmosphere; particularly in the communal areas (bar, lounge and restaurant)which are all open plan. These communal areas are decorated in a typical modern alpine theme, with comfy sofas and a huge fire place (that makes the entire area lovely and roasting hot!)
The rooms generally sleep up to five people and are decorated in a traditional alpine style, ours had a balcony with spectacular views of neighboring mountains. There is ample storage place for ski clothing, in addition to a ski/ boot room downstairs off the main lounge area. The rooms are ensuite; twin sinks and shower over bath.
The food, served in the huge restaurant area, is of a great standard, I recommend that you book full board; all three meals are guaranteed to be delicious! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, in particular the restaurant staff who catered for my dairy allergy.
To conclude, I recommend La Vallee Blanchee if you're travelling as a group; the service, communal areas and rooms are great, particularly for the price.

Room Tip: Rooms facing over the mountain with balconies are best, particularly on floors three and four.

Spent a week at the Vallee Blanche with 3 friends in Jan 13 and overall the experience was good. The hotel is run by skibound which runs a number of school trips so the hotel was full of UK children around the year 9 mark but they were all well behaved and looked after by their teachers so don't let that put you off. We paid £299 for half board, xfers and flights so that was a good deal. The hotel is basic but comfortable. The food is good and the bar prices very reasonable compared to other bars around the resort. The WiFi is very inconsistent so if you need a decent connection to stay in touch with work/family you will find this a problem. The sauna doesn't work and didn't the whole week (and was unlikely to be fixed while we were there) so don't count on going in there. The walk to the bucket lift is downhill about 125 yds - I suggest you ski to the left and catch the 2 man chair lift which takes you around the corner to another lift which then takes you to the start of the main area for the lifts. The bucket lift is good for the beginner slopes and schools but is busy, slow and can be packed. The staff in the hotel were really friendly and all english - compliments to James the on site ski technician who was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful - so unusual to get someone who knows what he is talking about and is willing to go out of his way to help you out - thanks for the offer of sorting out my new boots!! The staff are really great except for an unfortunate deputy manager duncan. We were 10 mins late for dinner one night (after getting back from a day at Les deux Alpes) and after the waitress told us our meal for the evening (breaded mushrooms, lasagne and lemon tartlet) he promptly arrived to tell us it had been "thrown in the bin". 4 grown men were not amused especially as we felt we were being treated like children but the truth was they had simply run out (as other guests had sat down before us and yet surprisingly were being served after ours had "gone in the bin"). We were also told the chef had gone home even though food was still coming out so another blatant lie. Eventually we were given a plate of pasta and tomato sauce with a plate of cheese and ham to chuck in - I refused the meal but the boys ate theirs as they were hungry. Somehow 4 x lemon tarts were saved from the bin but we then found out that some of the kids didn't want theirs and so we were given their leftovers. Not satisfactory hence why Duncan then decided to ignore us for the rest of the week after being approachable up until then. Top tip to Duncan - tell the truth next time and fork out for a pizza. By the way the breakfast is a cold buffet with no fry ups but they will cook porridge on request. The resort itself is excellent - try the La Sarenne although advertised as the longest black in Europe its a mixture of runs that go on for 10 miles. Some great runs and mainly south facing so a great place to ski (or learn). I also went in the outdoor pool around the corner which was a unique experience - for lunch try the La Trampoline near the main area - excellent food!

Room Tip: Take the bus to Les Deux Alpes for the day (cost about £10 on the bus) - your ski pass allows you to...

I travelled solo to this hotel over Chritmas 2012. I would recommend doing it but only if you like basic and are able to adapt.
The rooms were well decorated and clean with lots of wardrobe space and storage areas for ski stuff and suitcases which I was very surprised by. The bathroon was very well presented and had a full size bath and a power shower but it was a shame that for the forst 4 days when I got back there was absolutly no hot water to bath or shower with.
The above problem was solved by the hotel putting it's boiler on full blast fro what seemed like all of the time as then the whole hotel was boiling.

The breakfast was plentyful with enough choice including boiled eggs, ham and cheese and on request they did porridge for me every morning. The evening meal was basic but edible. With it being only the second week of the season and them possibly having new staff this was completely acceptable.

My room was room 106 and I wouldn't recommend having it (or any other on the first floor around the stair well area from what other guests said) unless you can sleep through anything or you really like noise. I had the noise of the children playing on the stairs from the hall way, the noise of the bar below coming through the floor in the bathroom and bedroom and the noise (and smell after the hotel having to use the boiler on full blast meaning I had to leave the windows open so the room was cool enough to sleep in!) of the smokers from the terrace outside the bar coming up through the front windows.

If it hadn't been for the very helpful attitudes and friendly personalities of the staff then this could have been a bad experience but it was a good Christmas week.
