“Excellent location in Alpe D'Huez”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

We stayed here in Feb half term week and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of it. The location close to the lift to the base of the slopes is excellent. The staff could not have been better, really friendly and went out of their way to help us. The food was excellent and the views from the balcony perfect. The rooms are good and the lounge area comfortable. It's located above an apres ski bar called Sphere Bar, which can result in a bit of noise from the music later at night, but as we were down there making the noise it didn't matter! We would definitely stay here again, thank you to Jack, Ben and Alice for making our stay so good!

Went as a group of six, hotel has a great location with a good bar in the basement, food was good, plenty of wine all the staff were nice..rooms were of a good size..all in all very good stay, only fault was the ski lockers trying to get 3 pairs of skis and a snowboard in was impossible.

Amazing value. Friendly staff. More than happy to accommodate. I have an allergy to wheat and gluten and every night I was served a separate 3 course meal, every afternoon they accommodated my needs by cooking me a fresh cake with my afternoon tea. Really impressed with the time and effort gone to to cater for my diatry requirements. Close to lifts, shops and lively bar downstairs. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

I always say, you get what you pay for; but in this case, I felt we got more! Chalet Le Bruyeres is not a luxury chalet, it doesn't claim to be. It is what it is, a perfectly decent, clean, warm and well run chalet. The food was much appreciated after a day on the piste, I found the portions generous but some in our crowd did ask for seconds! The staff are friendly, helpful and not intrusive. The room was comfortable and warm, and on the top floor we were not disturbed by the lively bar downstairs, which we were well aware of when we booked; don't book this place if you want a quiet place and an early night. We couldn't have been more happy with this Chalet.
Alpe D'Huez as a resort has everything you need for a skiing/boarding holiday; mountains! A variety of runs to suit all needs, we didn't encounter queues as mentioned previously, in fact we found in all 18 years of skiing, the queues to be minimal.
Would I recommend this Chalet and this resort - needless to say, I would. Just do your homework first!

Firstly Alpe d'Heuz is not the place to go if you are looking for a lively apres ski scene.
The Chalet is well located, although not ski in-ski out it is just a short walk, either up hill or down hill to a ski lift. The hotel has three floors, I was on the top (eves room) which was quiet, only one other guest room on the floor. Friends were on the lower floor and noise can be heard from the basement bar but that kind of depends on how tired/how many drinks you've had. My room (sleeping 3) was spacious but only one small open wardrobe available. No mod cons, no TV, no radio, no drinks facilities, just beds. The bathroom was clean but the shower tray did not flow away and you ended up standing in water, (hopefully your own but sometimes your mates as it took so long to drain away).
Food was on the whole good. Breakfast was cereal, yogurts, bread, croissants, tea/coffee with a hot option to follow, bacon, sausage etc. The portion sizes are not going to blow you away and I filled up with bread most meals to be honest. The dinners are three courses, and mainly were of good standard apart from one block of lasagne one night. Wine was flowing throughout and never ran out (white or red) and our group had a few thirsty people in it.
The boot room is small with old shared lockers - there were six people in the 2 rooms sharing ours for a space which was not more than 2ft x 1.5ft.
The resort is strange. I have never queued so much anyone I have been over 15 years skiing/boarding. The main lifts at the bottom of the slopes are hectic at all times of the day. Slightly better the higher you go but still queues persist. The lift pass does cover a decent area with an option of Les Deux Alpes or Serre Chevalier for a day. However even with all these people come apres ski time and everyone vanishes. Apres ski is a non starter, full stop. No mountain bars, no bars at the end of the slopes. We ended up at the Sphere Bar almost everyday (underneath the hotel) but this had almost no atmosphere when it should have been rocking, There were several drinks promotions which appealed but to stomach the lager we ended up adding peach cordial to it (the bar mans suggestion!). A few other bars in the resort were tried, O'Sharkeys only redeeming feature was a pool table. The Underground bar was probably the best out of a bad bunch. I could go on but I guess you get the idea.
Would I go back to Alpe d'Huez - no. Would I recommend it to others - no.

A great location situated very close to the lifts, and ski hire shops. Above a lively bar, which always had a good atmosphere. The bar can be loud at night, but from the 2nd floor and after a day on the slopes nothing that disturbed sleep. The boot room in small, and you have to share lockers with another room, which means there isn't enough room for everyones skis and boots. Meals are ok, the packed lunch is good value, and the wine never stops flowing during dinner!
The rooms are very basic, with no TV, however are adequate if you are using them just for sleeping, which is likely the case on a ski holiday. All staff were very friendly, and approachable.

We have just returned from a week at Les Bruyeres and had a great time. The staff are fantastic, they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Food was good and the packed lunches are great value - the wine flowed freely and was very drinkable.
Rooms are basic but they are clean, warm and there is always plenty of hot water - my other half would have liked a tv in the room; there is one in the lounge but it didn't work for 3 days and the wifi doesn't work consistently either.
The chalet is close to the slopes, the ski hire shop, the ice rink and pool. The bonus for our party was the lively Sphere Bar situated below the chalet. It provided great après ski atmosphere and live music until the early hours. However, some guests with young children complained about the noise - something to bear in mind when booking.
I loved the relaxed attitude of the staff and the fact that you could make yourself a brew at any time of the day or night. I would not hesitate to recommend the chalet - it was excellent value!
