“Great resort, hotel and staff!”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

Le Provencal is a great choice for your week skiing in Les Deux Alpes! I arrived for the first week of the 2013-2014 winter season, and the conditions were superb. Even if snowfall is short, the glacier offers all year skiing so you should never miss out.

Hotel- The hotel rooms are cleaned daily and offer warmth and excellent comfort, just what you need after a day on the slopes. All come with a balcony. The bar is also cosy and a friendly place to relax!
Breakfast and dinner are included in the package, and dinner is served up in a healthy portions and at a high standard. There are two choices for your three courses, accommodating for vegetarians, and service is brought with a smile from the friendly staff. You will never leave feeling hungry!
The hotel manager, Hans, is always on hand for help or advice and has good knowledge of the area.
Ski equipment is picked up and fitted shortly after arrival. There is some new equipment including comfortable new boots which makes all the difference! The equipment guy Ed is never far away to offer adjustments and assistance.

Location- The slopes are only a short walk away, close enough to comfortably walk to the first lifts in your ski boots, and the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and shops for all the souvenirs you need. Despite everything being on your doorstep here, you will not notice any disturbance when relaxing or catching up on your sleep.

In summary, if you are looking for an affordable ski holiday where you will be looked after from start to finish, this ticks all the boxes.

This is an old fashioned, fairly basic hotel which offers everything you could expect from this type of a hotel.
No frills (saunas or jacuzzis!) but what it does offer is provided always with a smile from the friendly team of staff. Food is much better than expected, and I even talked to one of the coach drivers who spends all winter taking school parties to ski holidays, and he said this was the best hotel he had stayed in, and a cut above the other school type hotels.
Highly recommended if you want this type of basic but very good value ski holiday.
As someone else said, if you want five star chalet experience don't stay here. But if you want a central location, friendly atmosphere and service with a smile, then you can't go wrong with this place

Just returned from a week's skiing via Rocketski and we had an amazing time. The hotel is more than adequate but if you want 5 star luxury then go to Paris! hehe. We went for the skiing and the resort is great and suits all abilities (it was our 2nd visit to Les Duex Alpes). The lists are near enough to the hotel, ok you cant ski in and out but its is only a short stroll to lifts. The hotel is managed by Hans who as ever was helpful and supported by a great team of staff who made the visit. The food was good both a breakfast and evening meal - and i was even offered more when they noticed my hunger one evening. The rooms are basic but give you what you need after a day on the slopes - a nice hot bath, warmth and comfort. The in-house ski chap - Mike, was efficient and helpful. Essentially we arrived, got our kit and skied till we dropped each day. If you want a decent resort with accommodation that allows you to relax, is near enough to everything in the resort and run well, then choose this place. Enjoy!!

There was a group of 45 of us that stayed and took over the entire hotel and everyone enjoyed themselves the entire week that we were there. The hotel itself is in a great location, close to the chairlift (short side), shops and restaurants. The bars are close enough, but far enough away not to cause any hassle. The hotel could do with a bit of a spruce up, mainly the rooms. Then again how much time do you actually spend in your room on a ski holiday?? The hotel was always nice and warm and always hard warm water in the evening. Rooms are cleaned everyday. I would suggest to bring your own towel as the ones there are a little old. The food at the hotel was AWESOME!! Everyone loved the 3 courses we had every night, with a Veggie option available too. They made us a cake one day as there was a birthday in the group, which i have to say tasted amazing. The staff are amazing and always willing to help!! We even had table service when playing cards, thanks Sophie!! lol. Also respect to all that staffv that joined in on our fancy dress evening, thay all did a superb job, spice girls, a game boy and the Team Jamaica in their bobsleigh! Well done guys and girls!!

All in all had a great week at Le Provencal and would definatley go back!!

I stayed in January 2012. The hotel is nice but date in a good vintage way. All the public areas are well maintained by staff members and all staff members were more than happy to accommodate problems quickly and efficiently, if anything too quickly as per the strict manager, Dave.

The rooms were again dated, but clean and tidy, perfect for those long days after skiing. Only criticism being that there should be more light in the rooms, as they were not very well lit! Particularly in the bathrooms! (On a note of bathrooms, BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS, most of the towels were small, hand towel size and unfortunately either stained or ripped)

The food, unfortunately was the only downfall :( The breakfast layout was brilliant a good variety of everything! The food in the evenings however, was not to our parties taste. The menu was traditional, but often too oily, too creamy or too salty! The main course was often, too bigger portion, considering every night was a 3 course meal, it was too big to then eat a dessert as well! All in all, a very rich menu which resorted in us eating out a lot more than intended.

The balcony views were amazing, for those in the right rooms, complete view of the beautiful surrounding mountains and the street. The mountains were only a short minute's walk away, and there was always a fast moving queue or none at all! The mountain itself had a fantastic range of easy to hard runs which was fantastic for our party, which was made up of both boarders and skiers! There is an amazing mid station bar, 'Pano' which is brilliant for a pint or a Vin Chaud (mulled wine) during the day! Pumping music and a really good laugh!

The surrounding restaurants and bars were fantastic, I'd like to particularly mention 'Smithy's' which was an amazing restaurant/bar for those long evenings when the party doesn't stop till 2.00am at which time you can move on the 'Avalanche' (the nightclub next door!)

All in all, a fantastic ski holiday made the best by the team at the Provencal and the complimentary amazing resort. To mention a few peoples names, Hannah (Assistant Manager), Katy and Joe (Ski Reps), Kira, Shavonne, Nichola and Nick (Barman).

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2,3 and 11,12,13 have the best view of the mountain! A meal at 'Smithy's' is HI...

As per the other guests comments, great location for both skiing and nightlife, yes, we were all woken at god knows o'clock with happy drunks but a set of ear plugs kills all noise and I slept through it. The food could have been better, there were always two choices of starter and main course and I know they will accommodate any food issues, your food choices were always taken at breakfast. Breakfast was a choice of cereals, porridge, ham, cheese, croissants, boiled eggs and some very doughy french bread cut into small slices. There were hot options on some days, the sausage was best avoided. The wine in the evening was very reasonable and the cost wasn't extortionate.
The rooms were all fairly spacious and clean, we had a double bed (which was nice), the rooms were serviced each day, always warm and the piece de resistance a bath!!! oh how lovely it is to warm your weary legs with a long soak at the end of the day, oh and we never ran out of hot water. Only one electrical socket worked in our room and there was a hairdryer in the bathroom, I didn't use this so cannot comment on it. There was plenty of storage space, some stains on the carpet but the carpet was clean (it looked like paint marks)
Katie worked tirelessly to amuse the guests and provided various quizzies in the evenings, I cannot commend the staff enough, they were always cheerful and happy to help with any question, Mike the ski technician kept the skis running for a reasonable cost. The ski room is ok but heated boot racks would be great so you don't have to put on damp boots from the day before.

We have just stayed here for the New Year break. Hans the hotel manager was very accommodating for the small children in our party of eleven at meal times. The staff where very polite and nothing was to much trouble. The rooms serviced throughly each day. The location for the slopes is good
However the nightlife around the corner did cause a few loud early morning disturbances. This is something out of the hotels hands
