After a shocker of a start to our holiday we had to move out of our planned accommodation and find something else. We came across a room in La Belle Etoile after a last-ditch "shall we check if they have any rooms" conversation - they did, so we had a quick look around and decided to stay.
The hotel itself is reasonably small with only 30 rooms, and is run by a friendly Italian family and their staff. It's clean, the rooms we saw were well decorated and all en-suite. We stayed in Room 30 which was enormous.
We stayed B&B, and the breakfast is a mix of French and Italian - think croissants, cereal, coffee, fresh fruit, juice, cheese, etc etc, with a bit of traditionally Italian food like olives in the mix! It was very good and more than enough to sort you out until lunchtime.
It's brilliantly located, being right by the Venosc lift and a few minutes walk from the Diable chair. The main lift station (the Jandri) is probably about five minutes walk if you're not stuck with skiiers hobbling along in their ski boots. The "better" bars and restaurants are nearby too which is good if you're planning on eating out or having a few beers.
The hotel has a communal area by the restaurant where we sat and had a few drinks. We came back from skiing one day and there was a load of tea and cakes out, and the manager (owner?) Erika personally asked us to go and help ourselves which was a nice touch. We weren't sure if this was a daily thing or a one-off, but it was very nice all the same.
Long story short, if you want somewhere cosy that has a nice personal touch of the people that run it, this is a great hotel for your stay in Les Deux Alpes.
