“Overall a good hotel”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Like other reviewers, we stayed here on a Crystal Ski holiday. The hotel has good point, and some not so good.
Crystal bill it is as 4 star rating, but it truly is a 3 star, as is the actual rating.
We saw that some of the rooms were very small at the back of the hotel, but we also were upgraded to a family room, even though there was only two in each room, which gave us lots of extra space. We too were at the front of the hotel and there was a lot of early morning noise if you are a light sleeper. The rooms are clean, well cleaned and adequate, with nothing fancy. The bathrooms however are modern with a good powerful shower. We had a problem with the heating which remained unresolved - it wasn't really warm enough in my daughter's room where it was chilly all the time. We asked our rep to sort it out, but it never was. It was warmer in the corridors!
The restaurant decor was rather out of character for the hotel - it would have looked more in place along Benidorm promenade! However, although the main courses weren't great (sometimes the portions served were quite small), they were okay and you could always fill up on the ample buffet style starters and desserts. We did miss a couple of meals in favour of a fondue and raclette restaurant excursions, just for a change.
The manager, although appearing rather eccentric, was obviously dedicated to his job and was to be seen in the bar, serving in the restaurant and at the reception desk - he seemed very 'hands on' and helpful.
The disappointment for us was the pool area - the pool itself was okay, but not very inviting as the room was run down, peeling paint, dripping water and cracked tiles around. Worse was that the jacuzzi was empty. The sauna just about got luke warm. The fitness machines were shabby and seats torn. The table tennis room was bleak!
There were some nice touches - on Christmas Eve there were canapes and complimentary drinks in the bar, and a visit from Father Christmas. The bar itself was fine - not a great range of beers but similar prices to other bars and pubs in the area.
The big plus for this hotel is its location - right in the heart of the town, a few minutes from the nursery slopes and with a multitude of bars, restaurants and every facility you could wish for.
The circular free bus stopped 2 minutes from the hotel.
In conclusion, we had a wonderful holiday here over the Christmas period. However, because of some of the negative points, I would be reluctant to recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back for quietness. Check on the size of the rooms though - some are small.

A lovely family run hotel, the owner is very enthusiastic and helpful! The food is plentiful and varied and there is a reasonably priced bar area that's friendly and relaxed. The sauna was very welcome after a long day, though unfortunately the jacuzzi area wasn't functional when we were there. The hotel is in a great location on the Main Street of the resort, next door to a supermarket and a 5 minute walk from the main lifts. Everything you need in a good mid range ski hotel. The only problem we had was noise from the street outside as we were in one of the rooms at the front - so were subject to a lot of early morning noise from bin men, delivery men and big trucks moving snow! Worth bearing this in mind and asking for a room off the street if you are after peace and quiet.

We stayed in the hotel over christmas week, we had a room facing away from the ski slopes but it was adequate, clean and comfortable. The staff and food were amazing the buffet food had lots of selection and even managed to keep my fussy wife's tastebuds going. It is just a few minutes walk to the ski hire shop and ski schools and all the bars. I would recommend this hotel for the following, food, location and staff.

Room Tip: ask for a front facing room

We have just returned from a week's skiing at New Year and were very impressed with this hotel, its location vis a vis the slopes and the excellent service provided by the management and staff. There was lots of choice at breakfast and at dinnertime. I'm a vegetarian and there was always a main dish available to cater for my needs. My three children were delighted with the full range of starters and desserts on offer, as well as the free drinks. We enjoyed spending time in the bar after dinner and here the atmosphere was positive and easy going. There was a good mix of families and couples staying at the hotel, all who seemed to be enjoying themselves. There is some noise from the street at night, so would suggest bringing ear plugs if, like me. you are a light sleeper. Many thanks La Brunerie for an excellent stay!

Like most other reviewers, we booked this hotel via Crystal Ski, and on the whole were very satisfied

Firstly the good points - we were lucky to be upgraded to a family room which meant that we had extra space. Breakfast was very good, although we stuck to the continental option - i.e. plenty of french bread/croissants/cheese/yoghurts with coffee/juices etc. Hot options were available, but can't comment upon those as we didnt try them

We found all the staff to be helpful and efficient

The location is great - not too far to pickup your ski equipment from Slide Planet (used by Crystal Ski and the hotel - Slide Planet's staff are extremely helpful). There are plenty of bars nearby as well as a supermarket right next door with an excellent bakery only a minute's walk away

The pool area is nice, however, whilst we were there the hot tub was not in operation which was disappointing

The not so good:

Evening meals were a bit hit and miss - starters and desserts were buffet style, with the main course consisting of 2 choices (served rather than help yourself). We appreciate that this is not the fault of the hotel, who are presumably tied to the demands of the holiday companies, however, part of the enjoyment of going on holiday is to eat in different places, and regrettably Crystal and other ski companies offer very little by way of bed and breakfast options

The bar could have had a wider range of beers (including locally brewed) as there are plenty of bars nearby offering a greater variety - the hotel is therefore missing out on potential trade

Whilst nothing to do with the hotel, we do have to make a point that travel into and out of Grenoble Airport is absolutely dreadful - there are not enough staff to deal with all of the passengers who arrive/depart at around the same time. Upon our departure from the resort, we arrived at the airport at around 7.30 a.m. for a 10.30 flight - check in desks opened late, and once checked in we had to immediately join an extremely long security queue with absolutely no chance of getting through in time for a 10.30 flight. It was obvious to all concerned that every flight was going to depart late as a result of the airport's inefficiency. As a result, we never had an opportunity to visit any of the cafes or shops within the departure terminal, and these businesses must therefore be losing out

Crystal advertised this hotel as 4*. On arrival, the board outside the hotel said 3*. Still I have stayed in some very good 3 and even 2* hotels. To give the credit to the staff, they were good, attentive and quick.

However, this is 95% crystal owned hotel. The room was so tiny that in order to get in to bed, you had to climb over from the back of the bed. No telephone in the room, no tea or coffee, very basic. The food was ok. The main problem was out of the control kids, running in the corridors screaming at 11pm banging the doors, no parents around, no staff and no telephone to call reception!

This is not a hotel, it is a kindergarten for spoilt brats. If you want a decent rest after long day of skiing, stay away!

the Brunerie Hotel was a great choice. They had all the facilties anyone ever needs with excellent access to the slopes, i'm talking minutes from room to slope! The food and atmoshpere was great with lots to do and some really funny people around. The staff were also really friendly and very lax when it came to dining - they often truned a blind eye to allow self catering people to join in at the all in dinner service :)
