“Rooms need to be refurbished”

Friendly owners who give perfect service. The public areas are okay: salon, breakfast room, pool and terrace. Unfortunately we did not have the pleasure to enjoy dinner at the hotel because their restaurant service is only in top season (we stayed here in June which is completely off-season except for one weekend when the Mondial du VTT takes place. Expect crowds and all hotels fully booked!).
We were somewhat disappointed by the rooms. Especially the bathroom needs an urgent refurbishment. It was clean but the colors were very outdated (dark brown tiles - brrrr). Our room was small, too. It did have a television but no safety deposit box. There's free WiFi access available but we were on the 2nd floor and the signal was often very weak.
Enough storing space but the wardrobe is very outdated also. Our room had a small balcony with a splendid view. Unfortunately the plastic chair and wobbly little table weren't inviting to sit on the balcony.
Breakfast was good but nothing to write home about. IMO the baguettes were baked-off and not fresh from the bakery.
Officially this is a 3* hotel. I would say it's more like 2,5*.

We were relocated to L'Ardet when our original booking choice closed early. We were a bit apprehensive as we were originally to stay at a 4* hotel and L'Ardet was only 3*. However, our fears were misplaced. This hotel is run by 2 generations of former ski instructors and has a great family feel to it. We were made most welcome although we were the only English family among a host of French skiers. And we were not sking - just visiting our son who was working in Les Deux Alpes during his gap year. Our room was not large and the en suite a bit cramped. But this was small discomfort. The views from the room, dining and bar areas were magnificent. The 4 course dinner was an absolute delight - great food, good wine list, linen napkins etc. Breakfast provided a wide choice and set us up for the day ahead. The management and staff were very friendly and welcoming - we were even provided with copies of The Times free of charge. Thoroughly recommend.

Adret Hotel

Fabulous Food Friendly Staff,

Our first overwhelming impression of this hotel was the helpfulness of the family team, 2 generations serve you on reception, in the bar and in the restarant. The rooms are simple French Alpine white, very clean and basic, old TV, not the most luxurious bathroom in the world and a shower that runs off the taps. The leisure facilities are small and free, swimming pool with glass top bit of a child nightmare and a very small two-person sauna. Good location at beginning of the resort, quiet, the small 75yd uphill walk at end of day can be bit tiring.

The food is unbelievable, we saw the New Year in at L’Adret and the young Chef served us 8 unbelievable courses:

A cold tomato soup, Saint Sylvestre, followed by the most amazing Blaze of Fresh Lobster with Cognac .
Panfried Foie gras or Trio of Salmon both were visually attractive and so flavoursome.
Duck fillets with sautéed potatos. Then a trou Normand, ice calvados.
The best selection of local cheese I have ever tasted
And then a tiramisu of the New Year.

I have eaten at Mossiman, Michel Roux and regularly at Wentworth, this food is better, presentation is immaculate on Villeroy Bosch plates with fine silver cutlery.

The food was so good that I looked forward to the next dinner. The single most important thing was the use of top quality local produce, cheese and local meat. The evening’s menu is displayed in the morning by the front door, if you did not like the choices you could opt for a fondue or alternative. We had great steak, amazing fondue and fabulous chicken. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced all the staff are attentive without being overly so. The comfortable unpretentious design of the restaurant made it comfortable for us to enjoy our meals with our two children.

Breakfast is clean well presented buffet with cheese, ham, yoghurts, eggs, breads and selection of croissants. No Lunch service or bar food.
There is a small play area off the bar, which amused our three year old and 12 year old.
The Pros – fantastic food and quality wine. They have a little minibus to run you to the slopes in the morning with the kids. The Overall service. Value for money.
The Cons- Dinner is not served until 7.45pm, food could be too gourmet for English kids, but if you ask in advance they will do fondue or frites for children.
The ski-ing at this resort varied, frequent free buses operate to the various lift stations. Vast choice of restaurants and bars.
