Just returned from Hotel Le Cret[28/12/2013] after an excellent week.Hotel is small but very intimate and welcoming.Rooms are adequate and warm, some have balconies with excellent views over the town and mountains.Location is a 5 minute walk to the nearest lift-even in ski boots!!Hotel is in middle of town with numerous restaurants and bars although we seldom went to any of them since the hotel was far too appealing with absolutely amazing staff. The Neilsen staff at Le Cret were brilliant[the best I've ever seen]Friendly, cooperative, polite and became firm friends with all of them.NEILSEN'S-YOU'VE GOT GEMS THERE-WELL DONE.
Rep Lizzy was the best I've ever seen.Hotel staff-MANAGERESS JADE,BAR STAFF AND GENERAL STAFF SAM,WILL,MICHELLE,IRISH GIRL AND CHERYL[what can you say about Cheryl!!].Many thanks to you all-you made our holiday. As regards the food-the chef prepared food which was unbelievable.Nowhere better in Les Deux Alpes.Xmas dinner was 6 COURSES.
Well done chef-you are extremely talented and very humble.
As regards skiing.Great resort.Get up to top of glacier for best runs. Not easy to ski back to resort.2 blacks or long narrow green or lifts down.Beer not cheap-5euros for pint cheapest but this is France so go with the flow.
This is a gem of a little hotel, great holiday, excellent skiing but best of all amazing staff.!!!!

Unlike many reviews i have read the staff were great and the food was excellent! Maybe they have new permanent staff since the last season?! The hotel was centrally located and it was easy to access both the gondola and the 8 man chair lift (5 mins walk). The night life was "buzzing" this may have been due to the large amount of university students currently there! (I don't think its that crazy all the time!) The bar in the hotel was rather expensive but this is expected with most french holidays!! The price of a beer (pint) was 5.50 euro and a vodka and coke was around 7 euros. The prices in town were slightly cheaper if you shopped around a bit or if you tagged along with the Neilson staff for a night out!! (they get a little discount in the bars, so make friends fast!!) The snow was lacking for the first 3 days but luckily we had a load for the last 2 days and the powder was ace!! Overall a good holiday and i would go again :) Already looking to book another holiday later on in the season!!

Room Tip: No elevator so the lower the better!

At the time of writing, Neilsen have just taken this over from a private enterprise. Didn't realise this until we arrived but having stayed at the Aalborg in 2011 this was a pleasant surprise. Other reviewers have used the word basic and, in terms of accommodation that is spot on. Our room had two single 'luxury' camp beds and our two boys had the bunk bed option. Very little other storage but we managed. The little balcony gave wonderful views of the resort.

Food was simply amazing. Cooked options at most breakfasts and no shortage of the ubiquitous croissant! Evening meals lacked choice but certainly didn't lack quality. The cheap wine was actually pretty good. Afternoon tea was served from 4pm and this was a real treat as dinner was 7.30pm.

Wi Fi worked reasonably well in the lobby area and ski hire if taken was based at the Aalborg which as always was friendly and efficient. The staff were all gap students and were extremely helpful throughout our stay. One even organised some physio for me after being run over by a big burly Frenchman on day one!

NOW...NOISE. I am one of those old fashioned people who go on a ski trip to...ski. I enjoy good conversation and more than a few glasses of vin chaud but I know when to call it a day. I appreciate that others like to drink a bit more and...a bit more but the location of H Le Cret, right in the centre of town means that you hear every shout and scream and giggle at kicking out time. Now I like Kings of Leon's 'Sex on Fire' but not at 3 am from some drunken student who shouldn't even be there given that he is supposed to be up to eyes in debt?

If this bothers you be sure to ask for a quiet room before you leave the UK. All in all a good week.

This was a lovely hotel in the centre of the village and close to the ski lifts. Not exactly luxurious but perfect for a family ski holiday with kids. Staff were lovely, really helpful and friendly. Poor Andrea was constantly pestered by our kids and was great with them. There were 8 of us in our party, including 4 kids. We all enjoyed the hotel, the kids had a lovely time playing around the place with some other children who were also staying there. We had a room at the back which was small but cosy. The room was cleaned and tidied every day. Rooms at the front were noisier. Food was good, even our fussy kids were happy though usually full after their pasta. Breakfast and afternoon tea were excellent. Would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The polar bear pub was v noisy - avoid rooms at front.

If you are expecting 5 star luxury then this is not the place for you, Le Cret is 2 star. What it is though is a clean, functional, excellently located place to rest your head whilst you hit the slopes of L2A.

Rooms are basic but at a price which is on par with small self catered studios, this is a no brainer. I stayed for a week and had no issues with the heat of the room, plenty warm enough with extra blankets if required and a electric radiator too. The showers were always hot no matter what the time of day.

The breakfast alone is worth the stay with a good choice of continental fayre, cereal, cold meats and cheese, bread and toast plus lots of freshly brewed coffee and if you are up early enough croissants or pain au chocolat.

The hotel itself is about 5 mins walk from the Jandri gondola and centrally located for all the bars and restaurants. Would I stay here again without a doubt.

Perfect if your looking for basic and central, with good value, we enjoyed our stay here and found the rooms to be fine, although a little basic, it was some times cold though, on the first day at breakfast we needed to keep our ski gear on to have breakfast! In our room was an electric additional heater which helped keep our room up to temp.

All in all worth a visit.

Background:- We are a group of 7 adults that ski together every year we try and find good accommodation at reasonable prices to suit the needs of the whole group i.e price, location etc.

Booking experience :- The owners were very accommodating whilst I was trying to organise the trip with a couple of people pulling out last minute, Emma could not have done enough to help me, even organising invoices for insurance companies etc.

The accommodation :- The group found Hotel Le Cret very clean, tidy and the rooms were as expected for this class of accommodation. Yes the rooms are small but there was also enough wardrobe space for 2 people, we all had on-suite bathrooms, they and the rooms cleaned every day to a high standard. The location of the hotel is a five minute walk to the nearest lift and approximately 7 mins to the main lift in the centre of town. The Hotel is located near to some lively bars and the Secret bar under the Hotel is very good not to loud yet not to quiet.

Meals:- Breakfast was as expected, continental and cereals with the option some days for scrambled egg. Afternoon Tea again was very good with home made cakes, tea etc. The evening meal, this is where we were let down! The starter's and soup were good, as was the sweet and the selection of wines. The main course was a great disappointment for 3 days, it can only be described as worse than school dinners. Some of us sat down with manager after day 3 and told her of our frustration and it was taken onboard and she admitted that they did have a problem with the Chef and would be rectifying the problem from that point forward. The manager kept her word and there was a vast improvement in the main meal and on the last night we had some of the best sirloin steak i have tasted. Taking all this into consideration I would stay here again and I believe the Chef was only there for the beginning of the season and has now moved on as they don't cater for evening meals again until Feb half term weeks.
