Stayed at hotel stella for 5 days, the hotel is basic, but very clean... Typical of a hotel in the Alps.. On arrival room was ready and was given information about eating times etc and local area.. The hotel is really central and within 2 mins to the slopes. The town itself has lots of bars and restaurants right on the door step of stella.
The food was very good- it is a set menu but all fresh and homemade, probably not great big your a fussy eater.. But good variety and with 4 courses you won't go hungry.. Wine list is ok and reasonably priced ( especially for a ski resort)
Bed very comfortable and rooms cleaned daily..there is a small bar downstairs which some people used, which is also open during the day if you want coffee etc. staff are friendly and their English is much better than my French.. In summary a very nice, clean and convenient hotel In a very nice ski resort..

The marvelous Stella hotel with it's lovely owners also runs the Galaxy Residence across the street, which is unfortunately run by a woman "of a certain age" that really should retire already. If there is no space at the Stella, they will book you at the Galaxy, which does not offer the meal service but has lovely rooms and is extremely convenient to the slopes (4 minute walk) and in the middle of the charming village. When I called to check on some details of our booking, the guardian answered with an abrupt "Who are you?". I was taken about but tried to explain that we would arrive early and wanted to know if we could leave our luggage anywhere. She answered "we are not a storage service, I only start work at 2pm, and you can come then". I also asked about wifi service and she said, clearly annoyed with my questions, she didn't know much about all that, I should call the Stella for information. I almost cancelled right then, but decided to make it my mission to win this woman over with kindness. During our stay, she regularly pointed out how awful the guests in the residence were, pointing out that the Brits were the worst. At one point, a British woman who did not speak any French and was practically in tears because this guardian was yelling at her about a broiler pan from the oven that had not been cleaned properly upon checkout. I helped facilitate by translating between English and French with the British woman insisting that they had not used the oven at all, it must have been that way upon their arrival. With that, the guardian huffed that her cleaners were professionals and they would never leave such a disgusting mess. Then she proceeded to say she had had enough, that anyone would be crazy to do a job like she did, and she was not going to take it any more. She directed me into her kitchen to show me the dirty broiler plan that she now had to clean, and continued on her tirade about what pigs the Brits were. I continued my quest to win her over, ended up buying her a box of chocolates, with the vision that anyone with that must rage must just need a show of appreciation to come around. When our check-out time came around, we spent several hours cleaning the apartment, including wiping down all counter tops and bathroom - but granted did not pass the vacuum cleaner in the bedroom. She went into a rage, calling the the state of the apartment disgusting, telling me I should be ashamed as a woman to have such a lack of housecleaning skills. Are you kidding me? A shame, because the place itself is magnificent (I would easily give it a Very Good to Excellent rating), but this elderly guardian at the Gallaxy is befuddled at best, appallingly rude, and has no place being in any kind of position of customer care or having regular interaction with humans.

Room Tip: chose the Stella and if they suggest to put you in the Galaxy, ask if that same elderly female guard...

Stayed for a long weekend and found the hotel to be exactly what should be expected at this price bracket in this location - it was clean, in a good location, and the evening food was truly excellent - and the breakfast buffet a good start to a day's skiing. Every request made of the hotel was dealt with quickly and in a friendly way (including our using a mobile ski-rental company which apparently upsets some of the local hotel owners who don't like other people doing business on their property). I'd recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Les Gets who likes their skiing hotels to be simple yet get the basics spot on.

We stayed at this hotel for a weeks skiing in early Jan. The school French we still remembered obviously impressed enough to endear us to the staff who were very friendly and helpful. Swift check in and although we had a quirky room up in the eves which was a touch on the small side it was everything we needed. Nice view over the mountains too.

This hotel is towards the end of the main drag only 5mins from the main lifts. We hired skis from Delavay ski shop which is almost directly opposite the lifts and they let us leave skis and boots in their ski room each night which meant we didn’t have to do the (however short) walk in boots lugging skis. There is a ski room at this hotel but obviously we didn’t need to use it.

Also didn’t use the bar as there are quite a few lively bars in town (although we were there during a very quiet week) including an umbrella bar next door which was pretty reasonable and showed the rugby! There are a couple of supermarkets in town so we got some beers and wine for the room which kept well chilled on the balcony.

The best thing about this hotel was the food! There was a set evening menu which was very impressive each night. Really well cooked French food obviously made with quality ingredients. Our week’s menu included the local fondue which was really cool to try. Each meal (apart from the fondue) consisted of four courses accompanied by bread. Plenty of local fare to try! The wine list was the biggest shock; very surprisingly reasonable!!

We flew home on the Friday evening and although we had to check out by 10am the hotel looked after our luggage and had a shower room for us to use so we could still have a day skiing and wash up before heading home.

The skiing in Les Gets/Morzine is very good and just about enough to keep you busy for a week, but the expert skiers would probably want a pass for the bigger ski area. Great place to learn too. The town is really cool and this hotel very good. We will be back, already checking the accounts to see if we can manage a long weekend later this season.

Room Tip: Rooms in the eves are understandably not best for the taller guest.

The Hotel Stella is a real find, an old fashioned (in the best way) traditional family run small 2-star hotel in a fantastic location in the centre of Les Gets just 5 minutes' walk from the lifts. We had a large, comfortable and clean room with an adequate bathroom with plenty of hot water, light, with 2 windows, each with a balcony overlooking Les Gets' main street. There is a room to keep skis/boards and boots and a nice bar. Best of all is the excellent, traditional evening 4-course meal, not trying to be fancy restaurant cuisine but good, satisfying, homecooked half-board fare, the sort of food that is just great when you are tired and ravenous after a day on the slopes - filling homemade soups, duck, bio chicken, local cheeses, and fabulous fruit tartes for dessert. The short wine list is reasonably priced and offers some good local Savoie wines like whites Crepy, Rousette and Apremont and reds Pinot Noir and Mondruse. Breakfast is a buffet and offered everything we'd want, a good start to the day. Some of the previous comments about the restaurant manager are very unfair - we have found everyone here friendly, correct and attentive. The young waiter who has served us in the evenings has been absolutely charming. Given that this is just a 2 star and priced accordingly the Hotel Stella is a real bargain. We would most definitely return.

The only saving grace was that the hotel was immaculately clean and we regret not seeing the cleaners at the end of our stay to thank them personally. The hotel is in a good location for the village, chair lift and bubble. Our room was a good size with ample storage. There needs to be a shower screen and tea making facilities would be nice.
The breakfast is adequate but totally self serve. Don't dare ask for hot water for a pot of tea, just have what you are given. Otherwise you will upset the waiter/manager. He made it blatantly clear from evening one that he didn't like people especially children. Our food was practically thrown at us. We expect a certain level of abrupt service in France but this guy took the biscuit. He made our meals so uncomfortable that we stopped eating our evening meals at the hotel, preferring to eat absolutely anywhere else. He took umbrage to us sitting in the wrong place. Our son not being able to eat the crusts of his bread because of his new braces particularly upset said waiter/manager. Son would leave crusts in a paper napkin but waiter would slam the crusts back into the bread basket that still had fresh bread in it, huffing and puffing. Our kids begged us not to say anything to him for fear of spoiling the rest of the holiday. We did need to explain to our kids that this kind of service is in no way acceptable and they were not to treat people in such a rude way. The only time this man made eye contact was on our last morning when we were taking our cases to the car, and then he gave me the biggest sly grin ever. Reminded me of the Kiddy Catcher!
