“Fantastic location, great staff, lovely warm atmosphere”
Reviewed 4 February 2011

Spent a 4 day long weekend here with my husband and had a great time. Great that the hotel is happy to accept shorter stays and also offered private transfers to and from the airport so the booking process was very easy. Hotel has a very warm and informal atmosphere, which is encouraged by the comfy sofas and open fire in the bar area, as well as the 2 hot tubs at the back with a view of the piste. Had lots of lovely conversations with fellow guests, many of whom were repeat visitors.

This is genuinely ski in ski out as next to a drag lift, a chair lift and gondola. Ski rental shop was opposite so all very easy and minimal walking in ski boots carrying skis. We'd preordered lift passes on the Les Gets website and you can specify the collection point to be the hotel so they were ready before we arrived. The hotel is also very close to shops and bars in Les Gets centre, couldn't fault the location at all.

Food was good - breakfast pretty average, afternoon tea - great cakes, dinner - choice of 2 dishes for each course, the only dishes we didn't enjoy were a couple of the hot desserts, but most of the food was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and obviously enjoyed working with each other and would be happy to help with any query.

Only real criticism and disappointment was the condition of the rooms. We stayed in 2 rooms (due to availability when we booked so we knew we'd have to move), but one of the rooms did not have a working bathroom light and they'd provided a floor lamp for us to put in the already cramped bathroom (not to mention the health and safety aspect). They said the light had gone a while ago and they couldn't find a replacement bulb to buy anywhere so that was the solution. If it had gone such a long time ago, surely it wouldn't cost that much to replace the light fitting?? Apart from that, the rooms were actually not that bad, just a bit tired and basic (not even a hairdryer), but we did expect a higher quality for the price we were paying. The second room we stayed in was very cramped but that was only for 1 night so we managed. Also, our room was fairly quiet but there were some on the ground floor which would have been quite noisy, I'd expect, as well as any directly above the bar but then I generally sleep well after a long day's skiing and then a late evening!

The hotel feels very secure too, with the ski room locked at night and the front door has a security keypad to get in. There is a decent kids play area too with quite a few toys to entertain little ones. They also offer free wi-fi which quite a few people seemed to take advantage of.

Referring to the other review which commented on the hot tubs, we used one every day and didn't notice any problems with it, seemed clean to us and I'm quite a stickler for cleanliness, and the jets worked fine. We did use the same one each time though so it might have been the other one that the reviewer used.

All in all, we had a great time and will almost definitely be going back. Highly recommend!

We spent a week in the Christiania at the beginning of January. The hotel's location is superb: you can practically ski to the back door, so no traipsing through the village from the slopes in your clunky ski boots lugging your skis over your shoulder - fantastic. We returned every day to afternoon tea in front of a roaring log fire, which was lovely after all our exertions on the slopes. The staff couldn't do enough to help, and were always cheerful both with the guests and with each other - obviously used to working as a team.
The biggest downside was the hot tub, which just never felt properly clean. There was something furry growing at the bottom - we didn't investigate too closely! - and the jets didn't switch on and off properly. This was a real off-putter, because at the end of a heavy ski session you really need something like this to unwind and sooth those aching muscles. PLEASE get it sorted: we'd love to come back and bring our friends. The hotel has so much to recommend it - it's by far the best location for skiing I've ever stayed at - but this lets it down.

wonderful location . ski in/out . Lovely ,friendly, small and informal makes the Christiana the perfect venue for a short stay or longer holiday. A warm welcome always awaits from Scottish and English staff , most of whom go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Food excellent as always and bar well stocked with wines and champagnes to suit all tastes. We have stayed here in all 6 times and look forward to our next visit .

Just got back from a very enjoyable stay with a group of around a dozen friends. Have skiied in Les Gets for years and have previously been in apartments & chalets, but decided to do the hotel thing this year. We all enjoyed it so much we will be booking again for next year. Hotel Christiania is in an excellent position - ski in & out, & close to the lifts and village. Food was generally good, hot tubs were very welcome at the end of the day. Cosy lounge/bar area with lovely real fire. Staff very welcoming. Rooms were clean - if a bit small (but you only really spleep in there!) and the breakfast buffet had pretty much everything covered. Only one small criticism - a mirror & reachable electric socket in the bedroom for hairdrying would be appreciated. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and I will be happy to go back next year.

A group of 17 of us stayed in jan 2011, staff were really friendly and genuinely nothing was too much trouble, their team consists of a great mix of English and Scottish and we were treated to a Burn's Night Supper with Ode to the haggis; to boot! Ski in/out fab location, great food and afternoon cakes - more tea vicar? Next to a roaring log fire if you don't feel like facing the slopes, great TV room to watch your own DVD's or knock out a bit of tapestry - whatever floats!! Outdoor hot tubs after a hard days skiing was great too.

We have stayed in a number of hotels including many in ski resorts and this has to be one of the better ones. It is not the swankiest hotel in town but if you are looking for a hotel that is well placed with excellent staff, then you wont find one much better. The rooms on the ground floor are probably last choice because you will get some noise coming the kitchens and being next to the ski lock up - but not too bad. The rooms have seen better years, the rooms were very clean and the bedding was recent and with fresh clean linen, the bathroom was older but very clean. We have stayed in a hotels that have the badge saying they provide good food - this one may not have the badege but the food was fantastic - some of the best food I have had in any restaurant.

Myself and a friend went here for a week long trip in Jan 2011. The hotel is in a fantastic location, you just can't beat it - right on the slopes, ski out and in, brilliant! The staff are English and very very friendly and helpful, nothing is a problem. They even organise to get your ski passes when you arrive which is a nice touch. However some little things let it down - it is very laid back which can be a bonus, but we had a radiator that you couldn't turn down and it took 5 days to get that sorted, which was a shame as we had to open our windows at night. Apparently their new boiler is extra good so it is a very warm hotel! Rooms are also very small. However the location and friendliness of the staff made up for some issues we had. The food is really tasty - and as a vegetarian, the chef was happy to whip up something for me if there wasn't anything on the menu (if there was a vege starter they don't mind making it main size). The bar is well stocked and the fire blazes all afternoon which is really cozy. I loved the 4pm afternoon tea as everyone would enjoy a cuppa and share stories of the days events.
The ski hire at Delavay was very good, both my friend and I were given new boots and skis and I felt is was reasonably priced (6 days for me with short skis was €64, my friends longer skis were €86) - the hotel will give you a 20% discount voucher.
La Pela is a nice place to have a fondue - €17. Their carafes of wine are really good value and it's nice wine.
The Irish pub below the Canadian bar is great - sit at the bar and the boys behind the bar are very chatty, good way to spend an evening.
I think I would go back based on location and how lovely the staff were.
