We booked the Grande Ourse for lunch and when I mentioned it would be my partner's 50th birthday, the English owner recommended we reserve their gazebo.
This is actually a glass ball shaped structure, situated on the edge of their terrace and over the piste. It is heated and lit and very comfortable inside. We think it could seat 8, or 10 at a push so was luxurious for just the two of us. The views through the smoked glass were stunning, even on a grey snowy day.
We chose a bottle of Saumur and two of the speciality tartiflettes, which contain lobster and scallops. The whole lunch was wonderful. The Saumur was very good and very reasonable at €25. The food was first class and one of the best tartiflettes we have had. Our waitress was attentive without being intrusive. Sometimes she just popped out to get a 'thumbs up', that we were OK.
We spent an hour and a half relaxing in our glass bubble, admiring the view and enjoying the excellent food. La Grande Ourse is one of our most memorable lunches ever and was perfect for such a special occasion.
Thoroughly recommended and thank you Grande Ourse!
