“Everything really wonderful except the room!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2009

We have just come back from staying at the well run Marmotte Hotel over Christmas. The hospitality is truly wonderful. The staff cannot do enough to help you. Our biggest gripe was the hotel room. It was cramped and impractical for a family of three. We asked to be upgraded several times even from the start of the booking earlier in the year and were refused. The room is functional but if you desire more then the basic comforts you will be very disappointed! It is a great shame as the hotel is absolutely charming and Genevieve and Thierry and the rest of the staff are really helpful and charming. Another good aspect to the hotel is the spa annexe. The pool is a delight and the spa is really wonderful after a day of skiing. The spa is very attractive and the staff offer massage and facials. The massage I had was very good and very thorough. In the restaurant the food is good but not marvellous. Thierry will help you with pretty much anything you need and they are pretty flexible in the kitchen. They made an enormous fuss of the children on Christmas day which was really lovely.

My husband & I spent a weeks skiing holiday here in March. The hotel is rated as three stars which is surprising having experienced the high standard of the accomodation, facilities, service and food here. It should have at least four stars compared with the hotel we stayed in last year in this area. The majority of guests here are French which is a good sign! I am not normally impressed with the standard of service offered by most hotels receptionists but here they were charming and helpful. We opted for half board and were so pleased as the food was wonderful, five courses for dinner, and made all the more special by Thierry the Maitre De. The bedrooms were a little on the small side but scrupulously clean, well decorated, warm and comfortabe. We will return next year.

Stayed with my wife for a weekend towards the end of the season; often, tempers are getting a little frayed by this time and staff and management are looking forward to things quietening down. But the service was friendly and faultless; the redoubtable Thierry, who has a nice habit of announcing everything in French and then again in English, can not do enough. The comfortable bar is a good focal point; the views across the road to the slopes are great, from here and from the rooms. But even a room at 'the back' means a view of the pretty village and Mont Chery. Our room (Centauree) was big, comfortable, with a mezzanine 'loft' perfect for two kids; we left ours behind on this trip. Bed was a large zip-together type, very comfortable.
There's a beginner lift right opposite, and the other (Chavannes bubble and Chavannes Express TS) are a few yards away.
Breakfasts were terrific; the usual wide buffet spread, with eggs and bacon and (French) sausage too for les rosbifs. Jams are homemade.
We didn;t have an evening meal there - but the menu looks appetising, choice of starters, mid course, then choice of two mains, cheese, choice of pudding, Wine list was ungrabby - starting at €12 a bottle.
Then there's the spa. It's through a wierd, but not unattractive, tunnel under the road and the range of Decleor and Thalgo treatments is impressive. There's a pool, and a whirlpool - both could be warmer. The steam room looked impressive but was out of order on our weekend, with a promise to fix it on Monday. All in all, if you're into spas, this ticks a lot of boxes.
In short; a great, unpretentious, well-managed and well-staffed hotel with charm and character right on the slopes.

My husband and I are just back from four nights at the Hotel La Marmotte. We had a room facing the slopes, which although very small, was very clean and cosy and the view from the balcony could not have been better! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we found the food in the restaurant to be excellent.

Amazing hotel. Just a stone's throw from the main chairlift in the resort, many of the rooms overlook the slopes. What really makes it is the staff and service in the bar and restaurant. Very friendly, always good recommendations and the food is to die for. The bar is really cosy too with great log fire and perfect Vin chaud or Kir Royale at the end of a long day on the slopes. You will not be disappointed by the position, the rooms, the food and the service if you stay here! This is the second year in a row we have stayed at La Marmotte and we would book again. One small downside is that the rooms with the piste view are a bit noisy in the mornings from the piste-basher but the view is worth the disturbance.

  • Liked — location, food & service
  • Disliked — Best rooms with best view were a bit noisy from the piste-bashers early in the morning
