“Amazing food, staff and accommodation”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Just got back with the family from a week-long stay at Hotel Chamois. This was part of a Alpine Elements package activity holiday (to be reviewed later, separately).

What can I say? We had a delightful holiday, and enjoyed our stay here tremendously. The hotel is at the end of town, just a few minutes walk from the local bars etc. Nice and quiet, barely a sound to be heard in the evening, which suited me just fine. That said, Les Gets is not exactly a party town :)

The weather turned (in our favour) upon arrival, after the wettest Summer in 30-40 years (so we were told), which meant we were able to take full advantage of the amazing location and activities on offer.

The rooms (we had 2: two adults, two children) were absolutely fine, well appointed, in fact we were surprised to get get 2 separate rooms, and not the usual cramped 'family' rooms that bigger package holiday companies offload. And the grown-ups' room had a wet room too, which was fantastic to have available after a hard day trekking across the mountains on our bikes.

Staff were just lovely - chatty, smiley, attentive and easy to have a conversation with and ask questions, get directions/advice etc. Brilliant.

The restaurant & food: wow! A 3-course delight every evening? Yes please. The chef, Alan, is to be commended, the food is king in this place, and all I can say is it's possibly the most consistently good dining I've ever had the pleasure of being served, bar none. Every evening brought something new, and all of the family (kids' included) enjoyed it (and looked forward to it each day). A photo of our Friday evening's menu is attached. Drinks were extra but not so expensive as to break the bank, e.g. a bottle of very tasty sauvignon blanc was about 20 Euro.

Would I return to Hotel Chamois? The answer is a resounding Yes. This was our first activity family holiday in the Alps, and I feel like we were lucky in most respects, helped in large part by our choice of accommodation. Hotel Chamois and its restaurant and staff were the icing on the holiday cake.

Gavin

Hi Gavin, thank you for your lovely review, so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your summer holiday in the Alps regardless the weather. At the very end of August it was up to worst summer in 59 years, hopefully this will bring loads and loads of snow this winter and we will see you back for a little sking break very soon.

We came to Chamois d'Or as part of a mountain bike trip in July 2014. Our flights had been cancelled, our luggage had been lost, and we were exhausted. They could not have been more accommodating. The manager even offered to loan me clothing to go biking! They were very flexible on our checkout, so we could shower after our ride, and their restaurant was excellent. I had heard it was one of the best in LesGets, and I would have to agree. A few minutes walk to the lifts, a great pastry shop across the street.

Thank you so much for such a great review, we are glad that you got to enjoy your day on the mountain regardless all the trouble you had with your luggage and flights before getting to Les Gets. If there is availability we always try to be as flexible as possible with check-out times for our guests as short breaks are so popular lately. We were happy to be a small part of your honeymoon and wish you both all the best in the future.

We visited in Jan 2014 We used Alpybus transfer from Airport to Hotel door . Really nice drivers and quick transfer for a ski resort .
Hotel staff English and really friendly , nothing was too much trouble.
We booked a Classic Room very comfortable bed , big wardrobe , TV , and great hot shower . (No Bath ) .
Hotel very clean and afternoon tea was served in the bar and the cakes were well worth coming off the mountain early for .
The Hotel Restaurant is Amazing . Head Chef Alan White creates amazing food that makes your taste buds tingle . We used to wake up in the morning thinking about what we were going to experience for our evening dinner . From the starters through to chocolates with coffee it was 5*

Hotel is just a short walk from chair or gondola . You can hire lockers with boot dryers at the lift station (. Well worth the money )
The village is very pretty and has a lot of shops from supermarkets to ski , fashion, shoe, toy, souvenir shops and a few restaurants. When we were there it also had a small ice rink .
The mountain was brilliant for skiing and had some great cafe/restaurants.

Our whole experience was amazing and we are just booking to return Jan2015. Can't wait !

Having heard so many good things about the restaurant at this hotel we decided to give it a try. The food is oustanding and a welcome change to the standard fare in the Morzine / Les Gets area. Perhaphs the most surprising is the price for the set menu of 23€ which is way below the prices in other local restaurants where the food is nowhere near as good! We went on a Thursday evening and there were very few people there. The staff were friendly and courteous and really seemed to appreciate working there. Only downside is that for some strange reason they don't have a French card machine and our bank charged us 4€ for the transaction. Be perpared and take cash or a UK card! I note on the website that the hotel is pen all year round. I only hope that the restaurant stays open for we locals!

Firstly I would like to thank you for your valued feedback. It has been quite a challenge for Alan to produce a high quality menu for the ridiculously low price we are charging this summer. We wanted as many people to try his food as possible , and the restaurant is getting busier each week and full at weekends. We want to achieve a loyal local client base and continually strive to make the menu varied and exciting. We are indeed going to stay open at weekends in the inter season. I am sorry to hear that your bank charged you 4 euro for a currency exchange, and I will be only too happy to reimburse you this on your next visit! Or perhaps a digestif on the house for you and your diners!

This is our first trip advisor review, so obviously this place had an effect, and having returned home yesterday we have the holiday blues!

We booked this stay as a package deal and came for a week of cross country mountain biking, having been to Les Gets 4 years ago and coming back for the extensive bike trails of the portes du soleil. We chose this hotel in particular given the exceptional comments found here, and we are so grateful for having read these and chosen this as somewhere special.

The owners/staff were great, genuine, nice friendly people who we had a laugh with, I say this because they were not just doing a 'service', took pride in this place. Alan White (chef) where to start, this guy is gifted, best food I've had - period. The room, king sized bed and wet room, provided the much needed creature comforts after a long day on the bike.

Top notch holiday - feeling very spoilt and we will be back for more.

It is always an absolute pleasure hosting guests like yourselves, and we take great pride in the number of returning guests we have. We are starting work in September to create our new Ski and Bike hut, which will be ready for this coming winter season. In addition to this we will be providing wash facilities and we want to become the most bike friendly hotel in Les Gets. We really hope to welcome you back next year to our very own "gourmet bike club".

I had dinner at Restaurant Alan White 5 days ago and it was amazing! Great food, great value, awesome staff who provided excellent service.
A French family eating in a British run/owned restaurant in the Alps says it all to me - I'll be back very soon!!

Thank for your kind remarks. We are getting a very faithful following at our hotel and restaurant and have been touched by the response of the local French and ex-pat community. We will continue to work tirelessly and imaginatively and give our very own bit of "je ne sais quoi" to make everyone have an enjoyable experience.

Have just returned after a weeks stay at this hotel. We had seen some photos and description of the hotel in advance but for what we paid had not imagined that the hotel appearance, rooms, bar, restaurant would be as good as they were.

Hotel is run by a small team of really friendly staff and we ended up knowing them all on first name basis and hotel owner was always to be seen around the hotel during day and evening checking everything was perfect.

We had breakfast and dinner included in the booking, from arrival to end we have been amazed with the quality each day. I'm not a regular to fine dining restaurants as would normally prefer a decent hearty meal but this is the exact type of restaurant I would return to regularly if lived there. Portion sizes were good and nice reward after a hard day of outdoor biking or hiking and the meat/ingredients used in each meal must have been highest quality or prepared for hours as they were amazing every time.

Certainly plan on heading back to this hotel for winter or summer season in the future.
