We have just spent a few days in the hotel. It was excellent. It is family run,and nothing was to much trouble, for the Coffy family. The food was terrific, and it was extremely well run. As it was very hot in Samoens, the pool was a bonus. We hope to return soon and wish the Coffey family and staff a "Bon continuation." Of their work. Jeremy & Penny Burnett.

My wife and I stayed here for a recent ski break in Feb-14. Nice hotel well located on the main room into Samoens. I struggled to find the place using SatNav but if you’re driving from GVA, it is right on the main road, to your left as you enter the village of Samoens. We had a room on level three and did not hear any traffic noise at night or in the morning for that matter.
The room itself was comfortable with an upstairs balcony room for children I’m guessing. I do have one complaint about the room, this has dropped the rating of the hotel from 5 to four and nearly three stars for me. The issue was the extractor fan in the bathroom was a constant fan somehow piped into the ceiling – i.e. not a timer and there was no way to switch it off. It was clearly audible with the bathroom door closed and audible even with ear plugs in. I ended up trying to block the noise out with a towel and eventually partially succeeded using a ski brochure. This may sound trivial, but a rattling fan in the roof, when you’re trying to get to sleep, well, it’s just not the best. Only other issue with the hotel was the wifi. To log on was quite convoluted to say the least. It did work, sort of.
We ate in the hotel every night. The food and service was outstanding. Not a lot of English spoken but that is part of the fun really. We were not inclined to eat anywhere else! Do try the Savoyard or Mountain Salad, outstanding.
The Ski bus stops outside the hotel, handy enough but it does then drive around the village for 20 mins before getting to the base station. I made the mistake of catching once before deciding much better option was to drive to the base station at Samoens and parking the car (for free). Much better!
Walking to the village takes about 5 minutes. Samoens is a cute little French village and of all the Grand Massif criticisms surrounding Flaine etc, the Grand Massif is brilliant, a lot of terrain etc and Samoens is the best place to stay.
I must note as well, the people at the Hotel were very kind to my wife and I, allowing me to use the gym showers after a final day skiing and preparing a welcome drink one evening while we were reclining in the very warm front lounge area of the hotel. Very nice people and I think that goes a long way to making a hotel great.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a room with the noisy fan!

We came in Feb 2014 for a week's skiing, and had a faultless stay at the Gai Soleil. It's a family-run hotel, and the Coffy family were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. When we left, after six nights, they felt like friends.

The hotel is clean and compact, just what you expect for a three-star establishment in the lovely Alpine village of Samoens. It has a great little indoor pool and hot tub, which are fantastic after a day on the pistes, as well as a games room for rainy days.

Other highlights:

The food in the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) is EXCELLENT
All the staff speak English well
The rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard
You can have a room with a kitchen corner if required (we did - it was really useful as we have two kids, including a baby)
The hotel is in a great location, near the town centre and there's a shuttle stop right outside that takes you to the telecabine station.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel to friends and family without hesitation.

Had a very relaxing week here. Room is basic but clean. Lovely breakfast, evening meals in restaurant were excellent. Availed of wellness facilities. Would have been nice to have bathrobe and extra towels provided - considering the cost of the room. I would definitely stay again. Warm, helpful and friendly staff in hotel and relaxed atmosphere in village makes Samoens a super 'wind-down' area for those in need of 'time-out'from a busy schedule. Wi-Fi in hotel limited to living room area - when available.

it all seemed to go so well!! nice triple room but no bargain price! Nice suprise with little cupboard that looked like wardrobe with a kitchenette, used ONCE and for cups of tea in the morning. On checkout 75 euros for use of kitchenette!!! apparently there is a sign (no doubt in French!) to say if use facility a charge!! underhand and sly!! Beware and you have been warned!!get the overall feeling this hotel is run for the sole purpose of providing a home and lounge for the family that run it, guests are a necessary nuisance, what more can I add?? Do not think you will get Internet access in bedrooms!! you have to go to the reception area for this! Not good enough and duped!

Dear Madam, Sir,
I've made a special price for you, you pay 159€ per night with breakfast included in place of 184€.
I select a family room for you with a garden view.
This room have a kitchenette on option. The kitchennette was closed when you arrive but you opened by forcing the door in spite of the poster indicating the price rate.
Before leaving, my cleaning woman show you this paper and explain that there is an extra charge for the kitchennette , and please admit that you did not make only a tea; you were bed and brekafast only and you have prepare the dinners in the room. And when you leave the kitchen was not cleaning as I ask you.
And I can add that you son served himself a bier when the bar was closed.
You ask me for one extra night and I arrange you to have no changing room.
I'm sorry if you are vex but I'm vex too.
Best regards

We were lucky to be able to book in the hotel -in mid August - for just two nights.
Our friends recently had acquired a lovely Chalet Apartment on the other side of the village,
It was their first summer holiday in the apartment and we wanted to be in the village so as to experience the village and some of the lovely surrounding area.
The Hotel was vey close to the centre of Samoens and was set back off the main road. We found the hotel room, very comfortable and it also had a mezzanine area, which I assume would be more appropriate for a family.
We opted for the continental breakfast, served in the breakfast area, with lovely coffee,to douce down the coffee. Good selection of cereals, jams, cheeses.
Great start to the day.

Just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of town the Gai Soleil is a traditional family hotel perfectly positioned to enjoy the beauty of the Alps. Our room on the 3rd floor was a reasonable size and well appointed. It had a pair of bunk beds inside the small foyer area making it ideal for families, there was also a kitchen that was locked behind a roller shutter door but available for a supplement. There is a pleasant spa facility in the garden with a pool, whirlpool, sauna and plenty of loungers which was great for a couple of hours chill-out after exploring the mountains. Unfortunately we didn't have dinner at the hotel as we wandered into town on both nights of our stay, however, the restaurant has a good reputation and appeared very busy. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and the homemade yogurt was to die for! My only criticism is that the breakfast buffet was crammed in a very small area and difficult to move around. We would definitely stay here again.
