“Wonderful Stay!”
Reviewed 11 March 2012

We have just enjoyed a lovely week long stay in the Alpaka Lodge in Tignes. The food was wonderful and the hotel was warm and welcoming - exactly what you want when you have had a long cold day on the slopes.

We needed to stay one night at a hotel in Tignes and were given the name of the Alpaka Lodge. What a lovely surprise - a warm and incredibly friendly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and after a long day travelling, nothing could have been nicer. We had a delicious meal making friends with a couple on a neighbouring table and the marvellously eccentric owner who is very well informed about his wines! We would definitely stay again. Close to the piste. Great to be able to stay just one night but we would stay more had we known about it. It says a great deal about a hotel if the French go there to drink in the bar!

Brilliantly warm & welcoming people with an atmosphere that puts you instantly in a good mood!.. Located near lifts and restaurants/bars, but the vibe is just brilliant there's no need to venture out....everyone comes to you, from the young.... to the young at heart!

Room Tip: Room 110 has the tub for a long soak!

Have just returned from a long weekend at the Alpaka. Area is absolutely stunning and the hotel was very friendly with good service and an excellent breakfast. The room was basic but kept very clean and had all the facilities we required. Very close to the centre of the town and only about 300 yards from the lake and ski lifts.

Went with group of 4 work colleagues for my first ski trip (I am 46) and the Alpaka was just how I thought it would be. Decent people, good apres ski, great food, very welcome and a decent price. Perfect for the lifts and ski hire shops and decent views. Not a luxury spa hotel like some of the others in the resort but had a better atmoshpere. Seemed people form the other hotels came here for a drink and food as their bars were too clinical, their food was rubbish and there no atmosphere there which is part of the holiday. The rooms could do with a sprucing up especially in the bathrooms but I guess I have been spolt by those luxury spa hotels in the past. Food was excellent and service was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble.

Advice-- we arrived in the dark and did not have instructions with us so we could not find it initially. It does not look like a chalet from the outside but it goes down the hill a lot and is deceptive in size. Top of the hill and its on the left hand side. Dont go looking for a big reception area.
They have mainly triple beds in the rooms we had although only two of us were in each room.
Decent drying room for boots.

We have just returned from our week in Tignes staying at the Alpaka Lodge. The hotel was warm and welcoming and had a great friendly feel and relaxed atmosphere. The decor was quite basic although the bar area did have some comfy sofas, great for lounging around on prior to dinner.

There is a heated boot room and a ski locker so it was a pleasure putting boots on the next day. Xander was happy to take guests out skiing for the day as well.

The food was excellent and the staff were happy to accommodate alternative food requests for our fussy teenage eater! Jill and Xander were excellent hosts and happy to help out with any query.

Free wi fi also kept the boys occupied including a laptop for general use in the bar. Extension leads were also dotted around if you wanted to plug in somewhere and not run just on battery.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the Alpaka as it is a great place to stay. It was only about 100m to the main lift area and if you popped over the low wall two chalets down you could ski straight down to the Chaudannes and Paquis lifts.

All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

My husband and I stayed here for a few days in January. Our room was a double with ensuite bathroom - nothing fancy, but quite adequate for our needs. The Alpaka is in an excellent location being just a few minutes walk to the main lift area of Tignes Le Lac. The communal areas are cosy and welcoming, the restaurant has great views over the mountains. The bar is extremely lively and there is always something going on there at night , mainly a British crowd - a good atmosphere. It was good to be able to choose whether to eat in or out and we felt it was good value for money in this very expensive resort. We ate in a couple of evenings, the food was plentiful and tasty, not cordon bleu but as good as any average British chalet I've been in. The breakfasts were excellent, they even had English bacon! The staff are friendly, if a little laid back. All in all, if you are looking for good value, a great apres ski bar and nothing too upmarket or fancy then this is the place for you. Beware of Tignes prices though - although the skiing is out of this world!
