We stayed here on 26th January 2013 for a snowboarding trip, when we arrived we had found that we had made a mistake with the booking ( we were 4 lads staying for a week, and had two double rooms booked!) it was late, but, the management sorted one twin room out, which was until the end of the visit, and they found a single room for one of us, and let the other one stay in the double room for one night, the day after he had another twin room sorted until the end of the visit, it was absolutely no problem for him to sort it out for us with no fuss and a happy attitude, the rooms were comfortable and warm, very close to the lifts, food was bang on, wine was good, rooms were made up every day, the spa/jacuzzi/pool area was brilliant after a hard day on the slopes, we all have said without a doubt we will stay there again, the ski/board room had secure locker for each room, and if you don't have a boot drier, the ski locker room also has a boot rack where you can keep them.we all really enjoyed our stay here, very genuinely, pleasant owners and staff, highly recommended for anyone. They make your stay very relaxing.

Friendly staff, great location and dog friendly. Rooms are a bit small but spotlessly clean. More fruit needed for breakfast.

Please see my previous review last year for further details. We stayed again for 8 days this year the week before easter week.

A few notes from this year-
1-I think the chef has changed and the meals are not quite as good as last year but even so they are very good. Starter, Main, Cheese Board, Dessert. + 2 special nights (Cheese evening + sea food evening)
2-The hotel has now connected the boot room with the ski store and made it secure with new ski lockers. A good improvement over the old outside ski store .
3- There is no free Wifi. :-( I ended up connecting to the next door bar free wifi service. I think the paid for Wifi costs approx 30 euro per week. Please Please (Serge and Nadia) make the wifi free. There is something wrong connecting to a free wifi signal from the bar next door when there is a Wifi router in the bedroom. I think the Tv and internet is a bought in service, hence the charge for internet. Please put 10€ per week on the room rate and give it to everyone free
4- There are lots of return guests each year. We noticed at least 5 groups during our stay. The staff turnover seems low.
5- Customer service is as good as ever- except when I had a flat battery in the resort underground car park. My wife asked for assistance from the morning reception staff and got an unhelpful shrug. I'm sure Serge would have helped if he was around.
6- The hotel made a mistake with our life passes and started them a day late- which we only discovered when we skied down to the lower chair lifts. The lift staff wouldn't let us go on, hence I had to stuggle back up to the hotel and sort them out (via the lift pass office). Please go to the Aero ski lift on your first day to check your passes are ok.
7- Familes started turning up for their easter break during our last day. Unfortunately the kids ran amoke on the stairs while we were trying to get to sleep (approx 11pm). The kids banged on one of our groups door- but claimed they did it by mistake. Where are the parents??
8- We stayed in a third floor room facing the cat track at the back of the hotel. Last year we stayed front side room, but suffered some road noise. The rooms at the back are not much better. You still get some noise from the next door bar, and some noise from the road the other side of the cat track, Nothing too bad, but not the most peaceful location.

Please note the downsides mentioned above should not put you off booking. This is a great little hotel, with a super location. If you enjoy skiing and food please book here

What a great little find!
Stayed here beginning of March and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location was perfect and a stone's throw from the slopes. Rooms are a little on the small side but very clean and adequate and the staff are very friendly and helpful. But the best bit is the food. Beautiful 4 course meal every evening. Fondue night was very tasty and on the last night the Surf and Turf buffet was a definite wow!

Stayed at the Gentiana at the end of January, with a group of guys. We have skied Tignes over a number of years, and stayed in a variety of hotels, I very much enjoyed the lounge bar area a relaxing place to unwind, Dinner was of good of good quality & variety, Breakfast was buffet help yourself, the only hot item was boiled eggs, it would be nice to see some porrige!! Some people say the rooms are small there no different to any ski room I've had in other resorts, and praise to the cleaning ladies.
Four ski lifts within 100 metres and excelent snow.
I have used Le Vallon Blanc for ski hire (just below the hotel) for a number of years and found them most obliging and cheapest in resort.
When I next return to Tignes I will stay at the Gentiana.

The owner Serge seems helpful but has many rules. He is friendly , unless you want something, then he will complain, and probably give in.

Wifi access in your room means = 1 login . So if you have a laptop, and an ipad, and a phone, or 2 laptops- you can expect to pay an additional 35 euros per login. You can also hem and haw to get another login, but if you ask for 3 it's impossible.

The rooms have no glasses/cups, silverware, fridge.
We did hang some food out the window in a plastic bag and that stayed cold so we were ok without the fridge.

We asked to borrow a wine bottle opener and the owner acted like we asked to borrow his car. He did open the bottle, and offered glasses though and we accepted.

The rooms are old, non-updated for at least 10-20 years, except for a flat screen tv.

The walls are thin, and there is no privacy, in the room or between rooms.

You can put the - Do not disturb sign on your door- and the maids will take it down and enter your room anyway and clean it every single day. They will also wake you up in the morning, not just by knocking but actually opening the room and saying "pardon" after seeing you still in bed, every morning.

The coffee is good, and the croissants are good when they are available.

The room was small.

I'd give it a 2-2.5 stars, since the hotel we stayed in the night before here in Paris- Mercure, was far superior and more modern. That was a 3 stars hotel.

The ski room to keep your skis and boots was very convenient.
