Stayed here for 3 nights in mid Feb. Room quite small but bed really comfy, room spotlessly clean as was hotel. Breakfast was continental but plentiful - evening meal always varied with lots of choice. Fritz and staff were always on hand and nothing was to much trouble. Located at top end of village but only 5 minute walk to lifts, bars etc right on doorstep if you don't fancy in house bar. Would recommend and will look to return.

Well ive finally got round to writing a review of this hotel.

Myself and usually between 8-12 other guys go skiing in Tignes every year after New Year. We have stayed in this hotel for the past 6 years for about 4 days each time.

Run by a dutch couple Fritz and Paula this is one of the best value hotels you could get in prime skiing location. I'm actually not sure I want to let others know as I cant afford it to get booked up each year!!

What can I say - about €90 per night BB and evening meal inc. Never had a bad meal and Fritz treats you like family.

Fritz - you need a hot tub but short of that see you next year!!

I was there for work, rather than ski-ing. Found the owner great fun, more than happy to sit our side of the bar sharing beer and stories. The other staff were also the same, a great family atmosphere!
Would love to go back on a real holiday as they made my week working in the area feel like a big holiday!

My fiancee and I booked into this hotel for one night in Jan 2011 before starting a week's snowboarding holiday. The rooms were clean and spacious, though the main lightbulb was broken and not fixed despite pointing it out when we arrived. Dinner and breakfast was included in the price - the evening meal wasn't great and breakfast was a simple cold buffet. The place was ok for one night, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay there longer.

However, when we came to pay the next day, the owner/manager suddenly got very aggressive with us regarding a cancellation that our friends had made earlier in the week. Despite having not responded to two e-mails and having no published cancellation policy, he started shouting at us that we owed him and that we should pay 90% of the charge. He was incredibly aggressive and unprofessional - we were called names, sworn at, threatened, and he even accused our friends of 'making up' the recent death in their family. He obviously had his own problems, but I found the whole experience very upsetting - not recommended!

We got a week in this hotel (or is it a chalet?) by chance - the other one was fully booked, so we were offered to stay here. To cut it short, I am in love with this place and here are 5 basic statements explaining this point of view (in order of appearance):

1. A lot of beautiful, relaxed and true people work in Le Genepy - and I could never call them staff, because it feels like a big family which embraces you when you first come in and doesn't let you go even when the vacation is already over :) You can get much more than the regular "how is the weather" talks and no one ever shows that guest-servant attitude, which sometimes irritates in other hotels. It's like you came to visit your good friends or relatives and they are your hosts this time, but the opposite feels possible, too. Correct me, if I am wrong, but when the chalet owner personally welcomes you, arriving at 2 AM, it means something.

2. The rooms are all different in size and extras you get (like some have balconies and lounge areas, some don't), but they are very cozy, elegant and comfortable for as many persons (+ their belongings) as many can sleep there. The bed linen is also very good and I mean not only "the must" qualities like cleanliness and whiteness, but the quality of the material itself (those princesses with the peas will understand what I mean).

3. I would give the chef a couple of Michelin stars, if I were in charge :) And it's not only the apres-ski hunger that makes the food perfect:
- it's the crazy international mix of cuisines - during a week we had French, Dutch, Thai and even Indonesian recipes (not to mention mandarin sorbet with vodka);
- the serving amount of food is also perfect - you won't die of overeating (as we sometimes do on a vacation), and even get a chance to keep the fat, burned on the slope, where it belongs;
- there is no free alcohol, but who cares of extra couple of euros spent when it comes to a wine selection Le Genepy has? Don't forget to praise the sommelier!

4. It's very warm everywhere, even in the ski room (I never thought it's THAT important before I tried it) - and for those of us who are hot enough, there is a temperature regulator in each room. All our clothes and boots were dry by morning and it's extremely important for active freeriders, who return from the mountain all wet.

5. New Year is a special thing to mention here - we had the best menu and the unbeatable fireworks show in the village. I wonder what they had for Christmas :) (If we came during some other time, this paragraph would be devoted to the Genepy's bar - the only bar in Tignes (and in France and in Europe!) which allows smoking to those who want to. It is very small and very well ventilated, so you cannot make it too fuggy. Besides there is a huge plasma TV (most of the time it shows a fireplace :)) and a barmen to share your opinion with. To be honest, what else do you need for a good evening?)

At first, I didn't want to publish this review, because we are selfish enough to keep the place to ourselves. But then... well, enjoy your stay in Le Genepy and say hi to Fritz :)

This must be one of the nicest places I've been in any ski resort in the French Alps. With only a dozen or so rooms, the enthusiastic and young staff can pay their full attention to the guests and make them feel at home. That must be the most important mission at this place. The atmosphere is very relaxed, this is what I found more commonly in the small town of Les Brévières. Although part of and directly connected to the huge skiing area that makes Tignes and Val d'Isere so special, this village is smaller and more relaxed compared to the bigger stations in the same region. No dull and grey appartment blocks here, no screaming neon and noisy youths. You will only find smaller chalet styles properties and a couple of nice restaurants, terrasses and bars.
This hotel is great for families or romantics seeking a more private and relaxed atmosphere.
