Very unfriendly waiters. We didnt want to order food, just drinks. The waiters don't speak english so it was hard to make clear that we didn't want to eat.

They mixed up the drinks, very disorientated.
We had to pay right away, looked like they didn't trust us.

Dear Sir,

We deeply regret that you felt you were not properly attended when you visited us.
First of all, we are surprised of your comments about the English level of our waiters : it is true that some of them are not perfectly fluent, but normally this is enough to communicate with most of our guests coming from all over Europe during the ski season. A misunderstanding must have happened, that again we regret.
Secondly, it is perfectly true that during lunch time The Montana Restaurant is "a restaurant", with most of the spaces organized with textile table cloth and napkins, for the comfort of our lunch guests.
Therefore, we have areas mostly on the terrace specially reserved for people wanting drinks only.
I am sure you understand that having people drinking hot chocolates on white textile cloth is something that we want to avoid...
Last December, we have invested in a totally new lounge section on the terrace, with tailor made furniture and tailor made glass wind protection, and we have now 2 waiters serving these drinks sections only, for the comfort of drinks customers... It is nevertheless true that, in order to avoid any confusions, we ask the waiters to collet the payment when they bring the drinks : doing otherwise is simple impossible when the terrace is very crowded. We did not experience any problems with that with other customers, as it is understood that it's not because we do not trust our customers, it is just the best way to be efficient, for our mutual benefit.
Again, we very much regret that this was probably not properly explained to you when you visited us, and for that we must apologize.
Nevertheless, we are surprised that after this confusing experience with us, you felt entitled to write that everything was horrible at our place, including our cuisine, when in the meantime you explain that you did not have any food!!!

Really attentive service and excellent, beautifully presented food. We stopped here for lunch without any idea as to how good it would be.

Our lunch at the Montana was the highlight of our meals in a week in Val Thorens. The restaurant is stylishly decorated (redone for this season) and the menu is imaginative and interesting. OK so it's not the cheapest place to eat but in my view much better value than most of the other places locally. My dish of chicken with butternut squash/pumpkin cooked four different ways was exceptional and my husband's plat du jour of duck was also very good - though perhaps a little less original. Good wine list, attentive service - what more could we ask?

Thank Ann K

Just returned from a week in the 3 Valleys and felt compelled to write about how good the lunch at Le Montana was. We found it by accident having endured the queue, the day before, for the snack bar next door for lunch for our two teenage sons. The service was excellent and attentive. The waiter recognised we wanted to speak French and carefully handled any times we needed help. We had the cream of chestnut soup with patched egg which was exquisite, a salad with smoked haddock and mango which had a perfectly balanced dressing and the chicken and butternut squash with marrow seeds that was also cooked and presented to perfection.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we had an afternoon of leisurely skiing at our pace, rather than holding up our two boys, so add in the food and location and this is a place I would highly recommend and would return too. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food and location.
