“If you are here to stay in the apartment don't stay here”
Reviewed 21 December 2012 via mobile

Small but comfortable apartment. We were here to ski though. Ours had a brand new kitchen with all the bells and whistles which was great as we had bought groceries beofre arriving. If you are tall the upstairs might be tight as the ceiling is low. Location is good for the hill. We enjoyed our stay but this is not a " resort" hotel it is meant for those looking for accomodations that come to ski!

We have just spent a week in the Silveralp in Val Thorens and were disgusted at the poor quality and maintainance. The first room we had was very dirty and the pull down bunk bed was too dangerous for our children to use (ages 9 and 11). The safety rail was loose and the was no other way of preventing rolling to the floor.

The second room was larger but no cleaner. There was a thick layer of dust everywhere and grime in every place you looked. This was the beginning of the season so it should have been basically clean. Two of us had allergic reactions to something in the furnishings - could have been dust or pet hairs. The furniture and woodwork was way past needing redecorating and the carpet was stained all over the place. The shower curtain was stained and smelly and the bathroom really grimy. The kitchen was dirty and some of the pots were also dirty.

The corridors were dirty including have cleaned dog dirt.

We have lodged complaints with Crystal Ski and with the Val Thorens tourist board as no-one should be expected in spend a holiday in such filthy and tatty surroundings.

The resort of Val Thorens is fantastic and we will return there but never again to the Silveralp appartments.

Room Tip: Don't book a room in this block

Actually, a very awful place. Besides, they will try tocheet you. So, the administration of hotel refused us to accept number. The reason is the penalty for cleaning the room. We, basically, have left number in a good condition, the dishes have been washed up, all things have been left in a good condition (as much as it is possible in so disgusting room), but we only didn't vacuum a floor. And for it from us have torn off... The attention, ladies and gentlemen, neither is a lot of nor a little, 108 euros!!!! The panel from the TV stood out for 40 euros, towels - too for money, a toilet paper, washing-up liquids and other didn't stand out at all. The lift didn't work from time to time. The only thing that managed to achieve is that have twisted missing bulbs. Hot water moved from a copper, therefore it not sufficed all living in hotel. Storehouse for skis is a nightmare: I sobbed each time, leaving there my skis, boots can't be left there categorically - there is too cold and wet. So, don't go there!!! There are a lot of normal cheep hotel in Val-Torense, but not this one.

We had a apartment which slept 5. Having stayed in one of Odalys other skiing destinations, this was a big let down for us.

Not up to standard, blood stains on the bed covers, dirty floors, cookers and in need of a good overhaul. Wiring hanging out of walls and very over priced considering the poor decor and upkeep.

Noisy at night, complained to apartment staff on numerous occasions, no security guard on patrol as promised. Came out of our apartment one morning to find a door unhinged and blocking our way to the lift.

The final straw for us, if the ski ing had not been so great we would have left after the first week, no amount of sleeping aids and ear plugs could deafen the sound of drunken unruly people at 0200hrs in the morning continuously,

We have now sent Odalys numerous letters and complaints with photographs to prove our point and to bring the apartments up to a decent standard which is not to much to ask,a number of complaints to Odalys and no one has had the courtesy to reply.

Have had 2 great stays in previous residences, but would not recommend this one if you want peace and quiet, and service as promised.

Not a bad location, but the experience was somewhat spoiled by the sullen, sulky attitude of the staff. The worst example was when they forgot to open the ski locker room one morning, leaving around fifty skiers waiting around for up to an hour at the start of the day. In our case that meant missing two lessons. Did the company respond to a request for compensation? Not a word.

Positive: This hotel is reasonably located, practically ski-in/out. Although it's in the lower village away from the shops and sports center, it is right next to the elevator up to a walkway over to the center of town.

Negatives: Do NOT book through voyages-sncf. If you don’t book directly with the Silveralp, their receptionist will not help you (although they were not often at the desk, even during posted opening hours).

The SNCF agent operated out of a ski shop on the other side of town. We had a long wait to rent sheets at a laundry near there. When we arrived at the apartment, we didn't have electricity nor the loft unit reserved. The main agency was no help, putting me on hold for 15 minutes and then cut me off after I started to complain. Luckily, the local representative came by an hour later and got us power. All we could see was a sofa with trundle bed underneath, not beds for 4. We finally found the narrow bunk beds that folded up into the hallway wall.

The apt was small but mostly functional, except for the stove top that only had 1 functioning burner. It was rather run down and needs refurbishing, especially the mattress for the sofa bed. The locker room was extremely small, poorly lit and badly planned with only places for 4 people to sit for putting on their boots, right by the doorway. Luckily, we were on the 1st floor and didn't have to take the single elevator for 8 floors.

You could say that we got what we paid for as the rent was pretty low. But, I’ve stayed in much better places for the same price.

Val Thorens was a nice resort and had decent snow because of the higher elevation. It was worth getting the 3 Vallees ski pass but we only got all the way over to Courcheval one day. It’s a very international area with more non-French speakers than French-only speakers.

Small and grubby apartment, extra for everything including 40 euros for the TV! Great skiing but not a comfy place to go back to after a hard day on the slopes. Expensive ski school,90 euros for 3 mornings and absolutely nothing to do for my 3 year old as she wouldnt have taken the man handling from the ski school instructors atall well. It was my first time skiing and I intend to go on a skiing holiday again but not to this resort, fine if your a multi millionaire but not for the avaerage joe.
