“Christmas 2013 at Hotel 3 Vallees”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

A fabulous hotel where nothing was too much trouble and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The bar and restaurant have wonderful views of the skiing and mountains and the food was truly superb. We stayed (three adults) over Christmas in a family room which was snug but cosy with quality accessories, received unexpected, lovely gifts and when 'time out' from the slopes was needed the new spa and relaxed bar with comfy sofas, sheepskin throws and cushions offered everything you could want. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the resort was great with nice shops, bars and excellent skiing. The fireworks (spectacular!) were the perfect end to a wonderfukl holiday. We would definately recomment this hotel!

Room Tip: The family room was snug but well equipped, a bit too hot but windows opened onto snowy slopes if yo...

This is a gem of a hotel. We stayed over Xmas and the service was very good, and considering this is only a 3 star hotel, the food was exceptional! We will definitely stay here again if we return to Val Thoren!

Stayed a week at the beginning of April and the hotel lived up to all of its positive reviews - pleasantly surpised. Very friendly, lovely view from room of the ski area, great food and overall good value for money.

Room Tip: From reading other reviews which weren't as positive about some of the rooms, we decided to pay...

Quote simply as long as Hotel 3 Vallees is in Val Thorens, we will not choose another hotel, why would we!. After 3 consecutive years of staying in the Hotel, we have never been disappointed. Every year we see a few new faces but it does not affect the service what so ever.

This year we stayed in room number 14, fabulous views with a large balcony where you can relax after a day skiing. Rooms are very cosy in a traditional chalet type style. Restaurant as always never disappoints, 5 star food and wine, a few new faces in the restaurant but once again great food and service. Quite often during our vacation we arrived very late for breakfast, not one complaint only flexibility to accommodate you.

As mentioned in our 2012 review, due to business commitments I get to try many different worldwide hotels and although Hotel Star ratings generally drives your decision to stay, trust viewers comments on Trip Advisor I have never been disappointed and Hotel 3 Vallees is right up there.

A clear indication is that Hotel 3 Vallees is a family run hotel, if Cedric is not there he is a stone’s throw away not that you need him, but all the staff elude that same sense of wanting to help and welcome you. That’s the difference with a successful family hotel vs a large brand. The entire team from housekeepers to bar staff are great.

We did face one minor problem this year but not with the Hotel, with the rental of Skiing equipment and on that Topic I would like to personally thank Cedric for helping me sort this out. Also thanks to Elise, Jean and the restaurant team we will be back next year.

Best Regards

Julian

We first visited the Hotel 3 Vallees in the 1990's without children. We returned in 2012 and 2013, and we will be back again. It is refreshing to find an independent ski hotel, where the owner - ever exacting - takes a personal interest in ensuring that every guest is well looked after. He has built a great team who all work seamlessly together to give a wonderful level of service.

The hotel is small enough to feel personal, the staff are all warm and friendly, the rooms are spacious and the food is excellent with a good wine list. Family rooms for 4 / 5 have a separate "grown ups" room and a cabin with bunk beds for the kids and this arrangement gave everyone in our group plenty of space and privacy. The bar area is small but cosy, there is a sauna (and for 2014 apparently a small spa). The hotel is in the centre of the town so there is a short walk to the slopes (50m to the nearest access point) and back again in the evening.

There are two things that redeem this hotel - good food and excellent service - and for the price it's good value. The public rooms are comfortable and modern (though not extensive) and this makes up for the difficult-to-disguise underlying 80s/90s (?) brutalist construction (a style so common in Val Thorens!), which is only partially concealed by chalet-style raw wood cladding in the bedrooms. Bathrooms feel a bit antiquated. But this sounds too mean. For the price, and it's a 3-star, this is an ideal hotel and the most important things are very well done.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with some natural light. Our room, though large, had only one small window, and conse...
