“Great Location & Spacious”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Situated right on Rue du Soleil just meters from the ski slopes and ski lifts and also very close to supermarkets, the bakery, restaurants .It is in a fantastic location and no need to use any shuttle busses as everything is close by. The appartment for our family of 5 was very spacious. We had a 4 bedroomed appartment and 3 bathrooms so we could all spread out - no shortage of space.
This was our second stay in Val Thorens totalling 3 weeks. The other end of Rue du Soleil had some more modern appartments, however, the convenience of being central and being very easily able to return to the appartment briefly during the day for lunch if so desired before hitting the slopes again far outweighed being in a more modern appartment, so, even if you are a novel skier there is very easy access to the slopes from this appartment.

We went for the fourth time to Montagnettes, the appartment is excellent, full equiped and clean. From the appartment you can ski directly to the slopes and also the way back is on skies!

We also hired the garage to park our car safe and dry.

We are going again in March 2014.

We stayed in Les Montagnettes in 2012 in the week before Easter, and in Hameau de Montagnettes this year in the week before Easter. Our apartment last year had the front line view of the pistes, but this year, although we looked across the street to the mountains, we had easier access to the slopes (last year we used the lift in the ESF building as although our balcony overlooked the ski school kindergarten, there was no direct exit from our building to the slopes). We were in no. 9 this year, above reception and the ski hire shop, garage and ski locker, and opposite "le Rendez-vous" and access to the pistes. the apartment, 2 bed + alcove bunks was very spacious for four of us, and we used the fireplace regularly (one free basket of logs) as it snowed a lot (the opposite of the sunny weather we had last year). we did have a problem with the Dutch group upstairs on the first night, but I had gone in my pyjamas about 11.30 to tell them to shut up, reception spoke to their tour rep the next day threatening eviction, and they were quiet as mice every night after that, both years we found the apartments to be very quiet and would stay there again, the Hameau building is on a hill so the rear exit was on the level of appartment 9 and opposite a Spar supermarket, but to the front we were on the first floor, with a sunny balcony (when it wasn't snowing).

I stand by previous revue about the position of these apartments and we were all looking forward to our holiday in Montagnettes. There has always been an issue with the lack of noise insulation and this year was no different; the clumping of ski boots up the stairs being the least of it.
There had been a 20% rise in cost since last year so we were expecting an upgraded apartment. Hopefully heated towel rails, as the apartment is not warm enough to dry towels. Sadly not! There were some new dining chairs and that was it! Not only that but they must have put them in all the apartments as we could hear the scrapping noise every time someone moved.
Upside was we booked inadvertently to go during the French half term; we thought this was going to be a disaster but actually worked out for the best, as the noise from the rowdies coming home from "Bar Street" was much less. The management were charming when one of the children was sick in the night. Surprisingly, I have been unable to find the prices for next year, to compare with other apartments, as we feel that for a bit more we could get better value for money.
Lastly if you do go with a family rent as large apartment as you can afford. I have been doing some research for next year and these apartments are a lot better than a lot of the others around!

Room Tip: Number 19 is on the end of the terrace, so you only have neighbours on one side!

We have stayed in these appartments for two years and have booked for next year.
We go with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grand-daughters, and next year with the new baby!
These appartments are perfectly placed for us. The childrens ski school is 2 doors down with a lift down to the nursery slopes and an excellent baker next door!
As the slopes are so close we can take it in turn to baby sit without the awful wait for lifts that would happen lower down the valley.
The main shopping, swimming pool etc is up another lift on the other side of the road.
Perfect!

We had a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment on 3 levels. The layout and space was good for our 2 families, but our children are small. Would think it would feel somewhat cramped if 8 adults were sharing. The kitchen was well equipped but very very tiny. Virtually impossible to have 2 people in the kitchen at the same time and be able to open a cupboard ! There also was no room for food in the cupboards ! We didn't have noisy neighbours, but woken up many times in the night by lorries delivering, or bins being emptied. Just take ear plugs and all will be fine ! Reception staff were brilliant, very helpful, and stayed until 11pm as we were late arrivals. Great to have ski shop on the lower floor next to our ski lockers, and only 5 mins to the piste and ESF meeting point. Deli, patisserie and Carrefour in the village brilliant (the Spar was very poor), so no need to make a trip down the mountain for provisions. The double bed in the apartment was rather uncomfortable, but rectified by turning the mattress over ! The room height in the bedrooms in the eaves was a little low - but perfect for kids, and shower on top floor did leak - so we didn't use. Plenty of hot water, great to have an open fire in the lounge, and chalet was always warm. Balcony overlooked the piste and sunny. Little provided in way of a starter pack - you do get loo rolls, tea towels, logs and washing up cloths, but we picked up milk from the airport and brought tea bags as we knew we were arriving late. We used "breadinbed" to deliver in the morning, and they hang the bread on the INSIDE handle of the front door - which was a surprise, but assume they have a pass key to be able to do this. Croissants and pastries were delicious, so would recommend. WIFI is only good for 2 users at a time - which was a little limiting for 8 people with ipods, ipads, smartphones, laptops etc. You can pay an extra 30 euros for unlimited access for the week.

Room Tip: I think some chalets have larger kitchens, ask for the layout of the chalet before booking, and if s...
