“Nice apartment, nice stay.”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

First of all, Village Montana is a group of several buildings & hotels, and we had no clue in which we will be staying until we got there. I think this is also the main reason for the mixed reviews here, as some buildings are more luxurious than others. We ended up in an apartment in Montana Valbel, which is one of the buildings near the main one. We understood that one of the other nearby buildings is mostly occupied by a younger crowd and were thankful for the consideration taken in not putting us there.

The apartment we got was relatively spacious for ski resorts apartments. I had apartments for four in other resorts which were smaller than a show-box. This one wasn't a shoe-box at all. We had two sleeping rooms, a living room, a spacious bathroom and a kitchen. We didn't use the kitchen, so I can't comment on that, but just the fact that they had a stick-blender and a salad spinner says a lot.

The ski room is nice, but I don't think it is heated. It had that system for heating shoes and gloves, but I think it wasn't working. Ski out is easy, right out the ski room; ski in requires a little walking at the end.

The hotel advises you not to park in the street, and recommends using their parking for a daily fee of 15EUR which I find a little expensive. The wellness center is located in the main building, costs extra (9EUR per entry), and is very small though it serves several buildings so book it in advance. If you wish to get a massage, check in advance as the masseuse isn't always there (actually, wasn't there ever when we stayed) and you may get a better deal going to the wellness center at Montana Premier.

The apartments are in the lower section of Val Thorens, which means you need to walk a bit to the get the main area of town were the better restaurants and bars are. It is still within a walking distance, and some may even prefer it as it's quieter this way.

Room Tip: Several buildings under the same name so you'd better check in advance which you are getting. W...

We stayed here for a week and had a great time! The appartment was really nice and luxurious appointed... Actually, one of the best we stayed in in Val Thorens. The spa area is perfect and not too busy. We'll be back next year!

We just came back from a one week stay at Village Montana Premier, and we are extremely satisfied. From the reservation process, to the phone call from the residence prior to our arrival to handle a few questions we had forwarded by e-mail, to the smooth and efficient check-in, we were very pleased with the professionalism of the Village Montana team. The location of the residence is great, right by the slopes and very close to a few nice restaurantes, including their own Le Montana, and the appartments are very well kept and furnished. We also had a chance to interact with two managers that were very kind and accommodating as well. We will definitely be back!!!

Came to the complex due to an RCI exchange (time-share).
Stayed in Montana Valbel which has no own reception (only on change-saturdays) which is no problem because of the reception nearby in the main building (100m away).
Baker next door and very good (and not to expensive) Carrefour supermarket near the busstation (reachable by lift across the street), just 500m away (easy covered walk).
Received a big, clean and cosy appartment (for French standards) on the third floor (street level)
Skiroom is on level 0, close to the slopes. Big locker wit heating for skiboots and room for your lots of skis.
Cleaning on wednesday was a joke (I think my wife kept the appartment to clean). Maid only gave fresh towels and left....
I would surely go back (tomorrow if possible!)
The worst thing of our holiday to VT was the weather....cloudy, cloudy, cloudy...

We decided that we would go self catering instead of half board for this trip having stayed in various half board places including suites du montana in tignes. The apartment was very modern and well equipped. If you prefer the traditional feel then this won't suit you as there is none of the pine wood / open fire you get in a lot of places. Ski straight out and into the locker room which is a must for us. It is close to all the amenities - the main centre is a bit of an uphill walk but there are other supermarkets close by.
The one problem we had was that our apartment was over the street side and at night music from the bar across can be heard plaing and then into the night yo get the odd late reveller coming past noisly but not too many thankfully. If you go - get a slope side room....
We also stayed for 8 days skiing and you have to change in the main reception area (there is a toliet and sink area round the corner) and leave your bags there. Not quite the "room" they said they had for us to get changed in. But it was fine.
Val is a great ski area and has quick access to all the other 3 valley ski areas. It is quieter in the mornings and later on as many others arrive mid morning and don't go until 3.30 ish as it is higher so the snow is usually better.
I would look elsewhere is going again but thats mainly because we like to change where we go.

Room Tip: slope side is quieter

Stayed here in a 3x twin bedroom apartment in March 2013. There were 6 in our group and the size of the apartment was fine, lounge could have been bigger and the third bedroom was a bit small but you don't expect huge rooms in these types of apartments.

We were on the top floor with a balcony and view over the nursery slopes and mountains. Had some concerns about noise before we went due to other reviews but we didn't have a problem. Specifically booked an apartment with fireplace as I think these ones are all high up and so less likely to be noisy.

Ski locker in the basement was large enough for 6 pairs of skis but not boots as well so we all ended up drying these on the balcony.

Location was great, lots of restaurants close, ski hire shop in the building and others nearby and a great bakery over the road.

There was a wireless router in the apartment so no problems with wifi signal and most of the time it was pretty quick.

No DVD player so if you want to watch movies and have a laptop you might want to pack an HDMI cable to plug into the TV (we couldn't find anywhere in the town that sold them).

Was very good value (we booked directly on the apartment website) and would definitely stay again if we're back in Val Thorens.

We stayed at The Montana Soleil, in a fourth floor 2-bedroom (known as a C1) apartment - not the cheapest apartments in town and we had to book well in advance (using Crystal Ski Holidays), but well worth it for that bit extra space (which can be rare in French Ski resorts) Only one thing un-nerved me - I couldn't see many visible smoke or fire detectors in our apartment, so I made sure I knew how to get out in an emergency! The flat was very clean, the shower efficient, with plenty of hot water, a bath and a wall mounted hairdryer. A change of towels was brought to us mid-week and the kitchen was small and basic but I managed easily to cater for 4 adults for the week and there was no problem with plenty of supermarkets and also artisan shops almost on the doorstep. Taking rubbish and re-cycleable goods to the bins wasn't an issue, they were very close by and we would do this at home anyway. The balcony overlooked the slopes and we were lucky and had wall-to-wall sunshine with not a cloud in the sky all week and the snow was over 6 feet deep on the rooftops during the February half term holiday. The ski lockers and changing room were large and had boot and glove driers built into the secure lockers. From the boot room it was no more than a hop across the road onto the slopes and from there easy access to all the lifts. During our stay my eldest son also tried out the night time Skidoo ride (not for the feint-hearted, but well worth it for the thrill seekers!) and also the Alain Prost Ice Driving Experience - which my son just had to try after seeing the guys from the BBC "Top Gear" programme do it! Self-catering wasn't too bad price-wise, however eating out and drinks on the slopes are very expensive (3 pints of larger and a soft drink drink came to 25 euros!) as a result the restaurants on the slopes were quiet but the burger bars and pizza outlets in town were doing a roaring trade! Definitely a young person's resort (with some night clubs open until 4a.m.) and it appeared to be well supervised at night with lots of friendly local "minders" in yellow fluorescent jackets making sure everyone got home safely and behaved themselves - so as a Mum with older teenage sons I was most impressed and reassured by this! Val Thorens is certainly not the most picturesque or cleanest of resorts and without the snow it must be a concrete jungle in summer, but a really good "all-rounder" as ski resorts in France go; with an estimated ski season lasting until May this year. We would certainly go back, as my family loved the wide, long blue and red runs in particular - mind you - Being the highest resort in Europe you do need to wrap up at night as the outside temperatures plummet to well below minus 20, which can take you by surprise if you have to walk back after an evening out! There is also a public fitness centre and swimming pool close by but we didn't use it - we were too busy with other activities!

Room Tip: I think all rooms in this building directly overlook the slopes. As a family we are glad we chose t...
