“Fantastic place”
Reviewed 29 January 2007

I have recently returned from a weeks snowboarding in Val Thorens and just had to write how great The Village Montana is. I booked the apartment, ski passes and car parking directly with the hotel via their website. This was very easy to do, although the confirmation is in french - thankfully my girlfriend can read french so we were ok. Everything was ready for us to pick up on arrival on Saturday and we were on the slopes by 12am and virtually alone as its change over day. We booked the 4 person apartment for our group of three. This comprised of 2 bedrooms with 2 comfortable single beds in each. This was ideal for us. Each apartment is well equiped with electric hob, very small plug in oven, dishwasher and coffee machine. There is no kettle so if you want tea take your own and also there are no mugs only very small cappucino style cups. You are provided with a cleaning pack which includes cleaning cloths and dishwasher tablets which was great, should you need anything else the nearest supermarket is only 10 mins walk away. The apartment offered us plenty of room with its own balcony overlooking the piste and living room with sofa bed. The cable tv was useless, unless you speak French, 2 English channels - Eurosport and CNN, so take entertainment. Our only other complaint was that the apartment was really hot during the night. There are board and ski lockers in the basement and it takes less than 1 minute to get to the nearest ski lift. Val Thorens itself is fairly quite for apres ski with limited bars/disco so dont go there looking for a wild time but we were too tired most nights to get up to much. There are some great restaurants especially the italian next to the Village Montana. We spent on average 20 euros a night for evening meal + a few drinks - fairly reasonable.
Luckily we picked the highest resort in Europe so we were fortunate to have snow - unlike most of Europe. There are lots of different types of runs so suitable for all types of skiers / snowboarders. All in all a great hotel and brilliant resort, will are defiantly returning to Val Thorens next season.

Just got back from a 7 night stay over Xmas period. We had a party of 13 in 3 seperate rooms. All groups found their rooms clean, well equipped (although no kettle) with good views of mountains and slopes. We found VT expensive so ate out only three evenings. The kitchen facilities provided were useful for breakfast and a few simple eveing meals. There are small supermarkets providing food and groceries etc. The ski in/out facilities were great as were the ski lockers.
Unfortunately, we didn't have great snow conditions as the Alps have experienced a really mild start to their winter, but as VT is so high, it had far better conditions than other resorts. The resort worked hard to keep as many slopes open as possible by using the snow cannons and snow ploughs over night to maintain the slopes, but the slopes that were open, were patchy with ice (particularly the high slopes) towards the end of the week due to lack of snow.
Due to snow conditions, we all purchased the VT area lift pass (we found the family pass 2 ad and 2 juniors great value). The VT pass, in normal conditions, provides extensive skiing for even advanced skiers.
We would consider VT again and would not hesitate to book the same accommodation again.

We took a party of 6 adults and 1 infant to Village Montana in Jan/Feb 2006. The apartments are in a fantastic location and you can ski out of the locker room and onto the slope. We had some semi- and non-skiiers and they were able to watch all the skiiers and ski schools from the balcony of the apartment as well as sit outside the restaurant enjoying the atmosphere with the skiiers.
The apartment itself was spotless and the kitchen well appointed. Bedrooms a little small but one big enough to fit the cot. Bathroom lovely apart from the odd French habit of shower wall attachments which mean you have to hold the shower head. Staff were very friendly and helpful and there is also a pool table.
One of our party took lessons for adaptive skiing and we were very impressed by the friendliness and facilities for these 'special' skiiers.
You can ski all over the 3 valleys and need not do the same run twice. We made it all the way to Courchevelle and back on one day. Unfortunately we didn't have great snow when we went but still managed to ski every day and you have the advantage of popping over the mountain to see if things are better on the other side. Our tutor told us that most seasons its usually the other valley's skiiers that come to VT.
There are several supermarkets and lots of restaurants and pubs, shops, skidooing and snow shoe walking even hiring fondu sets were available. Not exactly cheap in VT ... but then I guess that is the case most places where they have captive audiences.
All in all a great place and we'd go again.

This was our second trip to Val Thorens, taking a group of around 20 people of mixed ages rangeing from infants to 60+. All felt the apartments were of a high standard in an excellent position in the lower half of this purpose built ski resort. Several parties within our group used The Montanas own restaurant for both evening meals and snacks such as pizzas and filled rolls during the day which were both tasty and reasonable priced. The Montanas apartments/rooms are located in three different blocks all within a 2 minute walk of each other, two facing directly on to the slopes, with the other located just across the road, however, don't let this put you off, as this block is still in an excellent position. Skiers are able to ski from the door of all three buildings directly down to the ski school and main lift area within two minutes. Although there are several shops within this lower part of the resort the main centre is again only a short walk (approx 5 mins) away, including an excellent sports centre and swimming pool with many restaurants and bars to choose from. The skiing and snowboarding is wide and varied for all grades with access to the entire three valleys if required. We looked in to booking in to the Montana Apartments again for March 2006 but were unable to fit such a large group in!! Will definately look into another stay in 2007.
