“Friendliest place on the Alps”

Was here for my trip to Italy with my wife 6 months back. Didn't do much research when I reached Bolzano but this was a really good experience. Andreas and his family were very helpful in welcoming us into this beautiful mountain side village. He helped us plan the sites to visit during our three days stay at Bolzano. He was also very helpful in sorting out my tickets for the train ride. During dinner he would accompany us and share stories. Also the desserts there are to die for.
And the hotel has been in his family for two generations, so you know the treatment is authentic!
Beware of his jokes!! :)

Room Tip: If your know only English speak to Andreas... everyone else speaks a mix of German and Italian

Let me preface my comments by saying that after thousands of hotel visits around the world I've never posted a review. The reason for this post is that our stay (my wife and I honeymooned here) was exceptional. This was one of the first places we rested as we journeyed from Munich to Capri; but man, it set a benchmark for exceptional and friendly service. Your host, Andreas and his family will treat you like they're part of their family! Our first day they allowed us to borrow bicycles and ride to a nearby recreational facility/sports bar. Then, the following day we rode to a gorgeous waterfall on the north side of town. While at the Sparerhof, we would find ourselves consumed in the view from the courtyard, where the cups of coffee slowly turned to mugs of beer as we leisurely soaked up the mountianside view of northern Italy. Don't pass this place up, it's a hidden gem. Our two night stay was in July of 2011 and we've been talking about this hotel on a weekly basis ever since because of the over-the-top friendliness that we experienced. It's our honor to support this hotel, even two years later!

Stayed two nights at the Sparerhof Hotel on route to north east Italy from France. This is a family run hotel and Andreas and his wife are truly excellent hosts. Andreas booked us a tour of the local winery (Cantina Terlano - highly recommended) and drove us there and back. He is a great personality and made our stay memorable. We ate here both nights and the food is excellent. I kept asking for the recipes of the dishes! Don't bother eating outside the hotel. The location is a great base to explore the local area. Rooms are clean and comfortable with modern bathrooms. There is also a lovely little pool area to cool off in. Everything spotlessly clean. Thank you again to Andreas and his family for an excellent stay!

We really enjoy our stay our room and the hotel where both vrey nice. We eat in the restron and the food was great.

What really made the place for us was the staff, vrey friendly and helpful. When havering a drink in the bar, they talk with us and told as about good things to do in the erase, place to eat and the best and most cost effect way to do them- getting Tavel card.

My mom, aunt and I stayed here for four nights last month. The place was fantastic, especially the family that owns the hotel. They made us feel so welcome, it was like staying at your favorite uncles, who is also a gourmet chef! The restaurant was amazing...every night we'd come back from our sight seeing and go down to dinner to be served a wonderful meal (especially the steak and duck). I highly recommend Hotel Sparerhof...if you are visiting anywhere in Sud Tirol, stay here!

We travelled across the Reschen pass from Austria to reach Vilpiano and the Hotel Sparerhof, which meant that a quarter of an hour before we arrived we passed the Forst brewery on the edge of Merano and started to feel thirsty. After a warm welcome from the owners niece we decided unpacking could wait while we relaxed in the garden with a glass of Forst.
The hotel is well located just off the Merano-Bolzano road and close to the local railway station which has a good service to both towns.
Food and drink are good quality, our only mistake was to include a Sunday in the stay when the Sparehof restaurant is closed and the alternative choices in Vilpiano limited.

I stayed here twice while touring the alps , the location is great,, just off the autoroute abnd very easy to find. The hotel is great, small and cosy but the owner, Andrea and his family put a lot of effort into making your stay a great experience. The food is excellent, the wine was gorgeous,, there's even a swimming pool to cool off on the hot alpine summers days.
A great staging post for seeing the southern Tyrol , I would definately recommend the hotel sparerhof.
