This is a nice hotel well situated on the main coastal road between Taranto and Villa San Giovanni. Staff were friendly and supportive, the hotel room was a reasonable but not overly large, bed was comfortable, wifi worked well, bathroom OK. It was a little more expensive than what we would normally have paid but, in late winter, not too many hotels were open. The restaurant had a limited menu for the winter but an extensive wine list and we enjoyed the food and the white wine was excellent, although the meal price was once again a little more than we have been paying to date. Overall, however, we're more than happy to recommend this hotel.

This hotel has passed its use-by date. It is shabby and tired, and seems like they haven't upgraded anything since 1975. The pool was dirty, and the grounds were generally overgrown. In the room, the control panel on the bedhead that was probably high-tech thirty years ago didn't work properly, so we couldn't control the air conditioning or use any of the other functions. The walls are also very thin, and we could clearly hear next door's television until quite late in the evening. The private beach is quite nice, but the public beach down by the Lungomare delle Palme was far superior. Perhaps the private beach has more appeal in the peak season.

The room was mostly clean, although the shower was not (a previous guest's hair clippings were stuck to the wall!).

While the hotel is situated on the beach, the location is inconvenient in terms of its distance from the centre of Siderno or Locri. It is fine if you have a car, but if you don't, your options are either to wait for the unreliable local bus, or walk 2-3km partly along a main road with trucks going past at high speed. There are few eating options close to the hotel, only one restaurant other than the hotel itself.

The breakfast buffet was fine, and the coffee was really quite good. Very little customer service though, as they were already setting up for dinner before breakfast had even finished.

The biggest problem with this hotel is that they try to charge you for EVERYTHING. 2 Euro for a beach towel, 5 Euro for wi-fi (which didn't work for the first day). They even told us it would cost 20 Euro for a taxi to the train station (about a 2-3 minute drive). We declined and walked, bags and all. Staff were polite but generally uninterested in helping customers. We felt like we were being "difficult" if we had a question or request.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel and would be unlikely to stay here again.

My wife and I traveled to Southern Italy in a group of 35 in search of our ancestors (and to visit a few select sights). This hotel was our third on the 2-week tour. The location was fine; the food was sub-par; the pool was above average and the walk to the beach was fine. However, THE ELEVATORS could only fit TWO PEOPLE AT A TIME!!! Not good! WiFi was available at a cost and ONLY in the lobby! I was glad we only stayed here one night. Room was okay (as far as I can remember).

Room Tip: Get a hotel where the elevators are larger!!! (or at least normal size)!

I am from Montreal Canada and had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Hotel President for 2 weeks in August 2013. We have been to this region many times before, as my family is from the area, and I can say that the hotel and services offered exceeded any expectations we had before arriving. We had a very positive experience and this was definitely our best vacation in the region.

An important consideration for us was the food. The food was very good and plentiful. The dining room staff was very friendly and accommodating to our many requests.
The private beach was fully equipped with chairs, beach umbrellas and facilities. The beach is simply spectacular and where we spent as much time possible. In addition, there was an entertainment team that organised activities. This team really added to creating a joyful atmosphere at the beach plus hotel.
The front desk staff (i.e. Giuseppe) was also friendly and very helpful with all my questions before and during our stay.

Thanks to the Grand Hotel President team and management for a wonderful unforgettable holiday!!!

More like 2 stars, at best. The rooms were outdated and damp/musty, with a lingering smell we could not figure out. The beach is nice enough but nothing to write home about. On our last day, my daughter bit into a prepackaged breakfast snack cake and almost threw up - it was moldy. When I brought it to one of the wait staff's attention suggesting he check the others for expiry dates, he didn't even apologize, but barely dismissed it as having been previously opened and tossed it in the garbage, then pointed to the others as if to say: there are plenty more, why are you still standing here? Anyways, being Italian myself I am used to the occasional rudeness that one sometimes encounters, but since I was already unimpressed with the place, it bothered me more than usual. Long story short, perhaps the 4 star rating was obtained in the early 80's, when the Hotel was new...(I am using the decor to help me with the approximate dating here) and has not been re-rated since.

We recently traveled to southern Italy with a friend who grew up in Siderno. We stayed about a week at this hotel. Everything was wonderful. The hotel arranged for our pick up at the airport and we were greeted with smiles upon arrival at the hotel. While the front desk personnel spoke Italian they could communicate some in English. Our room had a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea and sunrise. We took all our meals at the hotel restaurant and they were delicious and the wine, Ciro, splendid. The sea has a tiny pebble beach with clearest water I have ever been in, very salty too. The beach has umbrella’s, chaise lounges, chairs and a refreshment hut. Without a doubt our new favorite vacation spot. Also, they have a wedding reception hall that is “out of this world” and the reception food spread was unbelievable in delicious taste and size of spread as was the fire work show. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Just ask for one overlooking the sea although one over looking the garden is beautiful too.
