“Great local gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Stumbled on this few years ago and loved it, so returned. A true local "joint." The food is excellent and worth the out of the way location. Prices are great, had a huge plate of snapper, beans and rice, plantains, and vegetables for CI$10.You should ask for directions though or you will miss it.

“Good Caribbean food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Kurt's is a small take-out joint on Frank Sound Rd with an open air patio that has a total of nine tables - no more than @42 total can be seated. While waiting for your meal we saw a number of people come by to collect their take-out. Our sum total for a meal for 3 people was $72 including a 20% tip. The plates were heaped generously, We started with a delicious seafood chowder and split an appetizer of crab cakes - all delicious. Our entrees were fabulous - we all tried the grouper in different ways - grilled, fried , and blackened. Blackened was a bit salty but still good. The grilled was deemed best by all. Service was great - the one waitress was charming and funny, we enjoyed her very much. Go to Kurt's - it worth the visit!

“what a find!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Tucked away behind Water Buoys liquor store a truly authentic local restaurant.

the restaurant does a brisk take out trade largely for locals and has a fabulous and extremely good value for money sit down area.

Menu was broad based with fresh fish. local meat dishes, pasta and salads. a lot of local specialty dishes are served and between our party of 8 every meal was well presented and cooked.

The service throughout was charming, the food waitress was really sweet and helpful and unusually the drink service is provided by the bar next door who were equally charming.

You sit in an open sided clean structure with great ceiling fans and have one of the most authentic dining experiences on the island ,real good value and a pleasure to be at ...

“Kurt has cornered the market on local food on the East End”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

If you want local food that is truly unique and very well prepared, find Kurt's. I'm not sure it even has a sign out front, but look for the orange building near the Waterboyz liquor store on Frank Sound Road or caddy corner from the gas station right after the turn. It is worth the trip. We ate there several times on our recent visit. Not only were the meals the best ones we had but they were also the most affordable. True, no view like you might find elsewhere, but the food more than makes up for it. Also, seating is outside under a covered deck with orange tarp as the sides. They have a regular menu and various specials listed on a dry erase board. Skip the menu and go for what is on the dry erase board. When we were there, they had grouper and mahi mahi fish selections. They can blacken it, fry it, or grill it. On different times we had it blackened and fried and once with coconut curry. The blackened version was not very spicy, but had a nice blackened crust. It came with fried dough with garlic butter, some plantains, and your choice of two sides. Some of the sides we tried were the salad, beans and rice, steamed vegetables, and fries. The salad was not your typical iceberg lettuce salad as there were greens, cucumbers, carrots and some cabbage with a raspberry vinaigrette. The fried grouper was outstanding with a light batter that had a little crunch to it and was fantastic. If they happen to have the coconut curry, give it a try. You won't be disappointed as they take their fried grouper and put a light coconut curry sauce over the fried fish-incredible! Another item to consider is their seafood chowder. I know, how the heck can they make rich buttery, thick chowder in Grand Cayman? They do! For dessert we tried the "macaroni pudding". Like bread pudding but made of macaroni. Kurt's offers take out and when you get it take out style, they include plastic dinnerware. While there, you will see locals getting their food take out style. Also, they have drinks-well sort of as when you order, they go next door and someone brings them over. If you are staying anywhere near the East end or if you don't mind a drive out from Georgetown (about 35 minutes), give it a try!
