“We love Silverstar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2013

The Snowbird is in a fantastic location in the Silverstar village - ski in and out and a short walk to the coffee shops and restaurants. We stayed in a studio room for 2 - had a nice bathroom, a huge bed and basic kitchen with supplies of coffee and tea. Our room had great mountain views - we could lie in bed and watch people skiing. The blind cord was broken and they had someone up to fix it that same morning. The staff were all wonderful. The guest lounge is nice with great views of the mountains. We went to a movie in the theatre, another nice touch. The only thing that would have made it better was access to laundry facilities and a hot tub - nearly all the other units include laundry & hot tub, but our smaller (and cheaper) room didn't. However we knew this before going and it was ok.

We have stayed at the Snowbird Lodge 4 times. We have tried other rentals on the mountain and we are left disappointed. The ski in and out access from the ski lockers is convenient. The units are spacious and well equipped. Beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of wardrobe space. We always ask for one with a private hot tub - perfect at the end of the day. Having an internal laundry allows travellers to pack less. The local supermarket will stock the fridge with food, which can be ordered over the internet. There is a games room and movie theatre. The one bed with den is perfect for a family of 4. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Silver Star has lots to do other than ski, such as tubing which was great fun. Local Restaurants are great but we especially like Long Johns Pub. Staff great, live music, great food and wine.

Room Tip: Room facing the mountain gives you great sunset views. Family of 4 could will fit well in a one bed...

We stayed a week at the Snowbird Lodge, in room 408, which faces the mountain. While my kids, aged 8, attended their Piping Hot Summer Drummer camp on Silverstar, I worked remotely from the room. The condo we stayed in was a well-maintained, nicely furnished, modern 1BR executive which means there is a separate bedroom, a "den" with bunk beds, and two full bathrooms. We decided to pay for parking which was an additional $10 a day but very convenient if you have kids, or have groceries bought in Vernon to unload.

The Snowbird Lodge is not fully-serviced but the housekeeping staff visits daily to empty garbage and hot tub maintenance comes by every two days. The front desk staff were super friendly! The free wireless Internet access was fast, and I had great cell phone coverage as well. The only downside for working was the landline phones did not have speakerphone or mute capability.

The kitchen was well equipped and was great for breakfasts and for making hot lunches, but we took the opportunity to try some of the restaurants in the Village for dinner. It was a working vacation after all! My favourite was the Bull Dog Grand Cafe which surprisingly, serves nasi goreng - yummy.

There is laundry facilities in the unit, as well as an amenities area on the third floor with an equipped gym. For cardio, there were 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, and 2 bikes.

If you are thinking about this for Piping Hot, the location is right beside the Chilcoot where the highland dancing instruction is held. If you walk across the area in front of the hotel, you can see your drummer walking to the NATC without having to walk the whole way.

Finally, Bugaboos is just a few steps from the front of the hotel, so perfect to grab a coffee or creamy chai tea latte before starting those emails and conference calls!

We stayed in the Snowbird Lodge in March/ April 2012. You can't get a better location then this place - right in the middle of the village - restaurants and village centre at your door and you can really ski out from the ski locker room in the side of the building ...
The units are self contained and very nice, spacious and comfortable - we had a big group divided in 4 rooms so we could have a look at different units.
Things to watch for - all the units had problems with their gas fire places as they stop working from time to time and it can be quite annoying to get it back working ... some of them were broken and they could not do any thing to fix it - so check it as soon as you arrive. The rooms don't have a drying room so you have to use the dryer a lot and it is extremely noisy and very close to the living room !
Apart from those minor faults the place is great - amazing for families !!!!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the mountain are the best as they have the proper outside gazebo SPA. Some rooms have t...

We travel to Silver Star each year at Spring Break and usually stay in a vacation home on The Knoll. This year, we were able to stay at a much lower price (due to an offered 40% off special) at the Snowbird Lodge, right in the Village. We had ski in/ski out right onto the slope which was great! The amenities were wonderful - private hot tub right on your sun deck plus an amenity room with pool table, exercise room, etc. It was our best family vacation ever at Silver Star - would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We chose the 1-bedroom executive, which gave us a separate room with bunk beds PLUS a pull-out couch...

Staying in room 602 in Snowbird Lodge and loving it. Hot tub on the deck, overlooking the hill. We have a one bedroom executive which is really a two bedroom. The second bedroom has bunk beds with double on bottom and single on top. I suspect they don't call it a bedroom as it has no closet. Two bathrooms, one is ensuite to master bedroom. Washer and dryer off the ensuite (laundry soap provided). Open concept living room and full kitchen, incl dishwasher. Kitchen is beatiful with granite counter tops and nicely stocked with necessities. We pre ordered our groceries from Butcher Boys Food Store in Vernon and had them delivered to the room (for $30.00). Great service. The condos are well appointed, clean and modern. There is now free internet access.
This resort is truly ski in, ski out. There is a large ski locker room from which u start and finish your day. If you are on the ground floor, you can ski right to your room. We are with 4 other families so are using the lounge in the evening. There is a pool table, card table, small kitchen, work out room and theatre room. At 7pm nightly they have a movie in the theatre room. There are evening activities which are advertised each morning via notice under your room door. Rock climbing, carnival night (with skating, tubing, mini snow mobiles, camp fire, hot chocolate and marshmallow roasting). The skiing is fabulous with a variety of runs for all ski levels ( we range from 5 yo to 50 yo).
The village has the most amazing bakery, some great little shops and restaurants. Village is quaint and colourful.
If you are looking for the perfect ski vacation, I believe you have found it.

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the hill as there are some rooms overlooking the lodge entrance.

3 stars is too low, 4 stars is too high...but I had no choice. First of all, let me say that Snowbird lodge is a lovely, modern, cozy, place to stay with the best ski in/ski out, village and snow school access on the mountain. My critique is to due with "value" and the aforementioned service issues (noted by other reviewers). I agree with the fact that although with kitchens and laundry facilities this is a self service hotel, the team of three room cleaners could do more (like wiping counters). The hotel I would also agree is under staffed. My biggest pet peeve, however, has to do with the fact that we have stayed in room #606 for 3 years. For the previous 2 years we have complained that the bathroom door off the bunk bed room does not look properly (we didn't even bother to complain this time since they clearly have no plans on fixing this). This means that every time someone goes in there, they have to yell "Nobody come in here ! " This is a minor annoyance, but if you are marketing yourself as high end accommodation, these things do matter. Oh yes, the hairdryer in that bathroom also doesn't work properly and a switch on one of the lights in the living room is broken.
I would absolutely stay here again because it is nice and convenient, it just seems like there are some issues that need taking care of.

Room Tip: The village view rooms can get a little noisy. Try to get a view of the mountain. The hotel has an...
