This holiday cottage is wonderfully quiet even though it is not far from a busy road. There is some lovely scenery really close by and a lovely cycle path/walk right behind the house. I looks like it used to be a railway line which has been put to good use. There are a few local pubs which have been recommended but we didn't actually use so we cannot really comment on those. With regards to the actual property we were very happy with it apart from the sofas in the living room. We personally found them uncomfortable...seat cushions were hard and the back cushions were far to soft so that did have a bit of an impact on our stay. However, the bed in the master bedroom was fantastic, so comfortable. The kitchen was really nice too. We made good use of that as we stayed in every evening. We watched the birds in the garden every morning, really beautiful garden area. We woke up to snow on our final day and it made the garden look even more beautiful. We would definitely recommend this property to others but as mentioned earlier the sofas were not so good for us. Thanks Andrea for everything, you have a lovely property there
Fantastic rental home, very luxurious well equipped and very quiet location.
Beamish living museum within walking distance as well as restaurants and pub.
Ideal location for visiting other attractions close to property.
We had a superb week at Shutters which is a beautiful home that has everything you could possibly need. The decor, facilities and cleanliness are of the highest standard and the kitchen has everything you could need for your stay. The area is very quiet and the garden, on two levels, is very pretty with greenery all around. Andrea is extremely attentive and helpful and was very quick to respond and try and help when we had a problem. The house is brilliantly located to explore the North East and we easily filled our week away without having to drive more than 45 minutes away.
We couldn't recommend this cottage highly enough to the extent that we've already suggested it to 2 of our family who want to explore this part of the country. Lots of space, 2 large double bedrooms, great bathrooms and incredibly comfy sofas! The only thing to be aware of is that the parking space is about 30 yards from the house which is accessed down a pathway but it really wasn't a problem because the cul-de-sac the house in is so quiet. Wonderful place.
Superb spacious and homely house. Everything you could possibly need was provided. Lovely location with loads to do in the area. Beamish museum within walking distance and beautiful countryside within very easy driving distance.
Have stayed in this lovely house in November for 5 consecutive years so it feels very much like home. It is so well equipped, in great condition and is lovely and warm. The location is great for visiting Durham and Newcastle. As avid horse racegoers, we are in striking distance of many of the northern tracks. 5 stars every time!
Shutters is the most perfect cottage that we have rented. It met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. The layout and decor are very attractive. The bed and furnishings are very comfortable. The cottage is very well equipped. We particularly enjoyed having meals in the conservatory. The cottage is conveniently located and yet very private. The owner, Andréa, provides great information in advance & at the cottage, replies quickly to email and is a pleasure to deal with. We were doing walking in the Durham and Northumberland areas. Andréa gave us many helpful suggestions. We would love to be able to stay at Shutters again on a future visit to the area.
